BULLDOGS AND BATTALION INCLUDED IN WEEK 21 EDITION OF KIA CHL TOP 10 RANKINGS

Toronto, Ont. – The Canadian Hockey League announced today the Week 21 edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings for the 2021-22 season.

The Hamilton Bulldogs are the third-ranked team in the CHL this week, coming off a 3-0 weekend on the road with wins over Kingston and Ottawa. OHL Goaltender of the Week Marco Costantini continues his stellar play, winning 16 of his last 17 starts while top scorer Logan Morrison set a new Bulldogs single season record with his 55th assist on Sunday, extending his current point streak to 15 games. The 40-12-2-2 Bulldogs own a league-best winning percentage of .750, surrendering a league-low 157 goals on the campaign. The Dogs are back in action on Thursday for a highly anticipated matchup against the eighth-ranked North Bay Battalion.

The Troops are winners of seven straight and 16 of their last 18 games. North Bay has surpassed Mississauga after defeating the Steelheads 2-1 on Thursday to claim top spot in the Central Division. The Battalion bested the Barrie Colts 3-2 on Sunday as rookie Michael Podolioukh scored the third period game winner. North Bay’s power play has surged to the top of the league, operating at 27.1 percent, with overage forward Mitchell Russell leading the club with 11 goals on the man advantage. Rookie defender Ty Nelson, who leads Battalion blueliners with 48 points this season, will compete in Wednesday’s Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Kitchener.

The Windsor Spitfires receive an honourable mention following three straight wins that each featured at least six goals. Dallas Stars prospect Wyatt Johnston became the OHL’s first 100-point scorer of 2021-22, becoming the first Spitfire to hit the century mark since Ryan Ellis in 2010-11. Matthew Maggio was named the OHL Player of the Week, recording 10 points (3-7–10) in four games last week. Windsor defeated Flint on back-to-back nights to climb within one point of the Western Conference-leading Firebirds entering another week of action.

Toronto, Ont. – The Canadian Hockey League announced today the Week 20 edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings for the 2021-22 season.

The Hamilton Bulldogs continue their climb up the list, coming in at a season-high second slotting in Week 20. The Dogs had a 12-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night in Peterborough, but had Steeltown on its feet on Monday night at Tim Hortons Field, winning the fourth outdoor matchup in OHL history over the Oshawa Generals by a score of 3-0. The 37-12-2-2 Bulldogs lead the OHL standings and have won 19 of their last 21 games. Top scorer Logan Morrison is on a current 12-game point streak dating back to Feb. 18th while blueliner Nathan Staios sits second in scoring among OHL defenders with 52 points (12-40–52) in 45 games. Staios and teammate Mason McTavish were out of the Hamilton lineup on Tuesday night in Peterborough. The Bulldogs have just embarked on eight straight games on the road, with a three-in-three slated for the coming weekend in Kingston and Ottawa.

The Flint Firebirds keep cruising, winning back-to-back last week to climb to ninth on this week’s list. The ‘Birds defeated highly-skilled Western Conference opponents in London and Guelph on Friday and Saturday, improving to 35-16-1-3 with a league-leading 235 goals scored. New York Rangers prospect and captain Brennan Othmann tied the club’s single season goal-scoring record with his 39th on Saturday. Overage goaltender Luke Cavallin made 49 saves against Guelph to earn his 29th win, tying Anthony Popovich’s high franchise watermark from the 2019-20 season. The Firebirds are at home for games against Sault Ste. Marie and Windsor on Friday and Saturday this weekend before visiting Windsor on Sunday afternoon.

The North Bay Battalion are an honourable mention in this week’s rankings, riding a five-game winning streak into Thursday action at home to Mississauga. Having punched their ticket to the OHL Playoffs last week, the Battalion sit tied with the Steelheads for first place in the Central Division, owning a 33-17-3-3 record. The Troops recently welcomed captain Liam Arnsby back into the lineup after he missed time due to injury. The Troops feature four different 30-goal scorers in their lineup, with Mitchell Russell (34), Kyle McDonald (33), Matvey Petrov (31) and Brandon Coe (30) making up that group. McDonald has points in 13 straight games dating back to Feb. 6th.

BULLDOGS AND KNIGHTS INCLUDED IN WEEK 19 EDITION OF KIA CHL TOP 10 RANKINGS

Toronto, Ont. – The Canadian Hockey League announced today the Week 19 edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings for the 2021-22 season.

The Hamilton Bulldogs continue to climb, entering another week as the third-ranked team in the CHL as a nine-game winning streak continues. The 34-11-2-2 Bulldogs won a pair of games last week, edging the Central Division-leading Mississauga Steelheads 2-1 on Thursday before defeating the Ottawa 67’s 2-1 in a shootout on TSN Friday night. The Dogs lost star centreman Mason McTavish to injury in the win, but got big saves from OHL Goaltender of the Week Marco Costantini who earned first star recognition. The Bulldogs are back in action with visits to Barrie and Mississauga on Thursday and Friday before hitting the ice outdoors against the Oshawa Generals at Tim Hortons Field on Monday, March 14th.

Despite consecutive losses, the London Knights find themselves in the 10th spot this week, owning a Midwest Division-leading 32-15-2-0 record. The Knights lost the services of starting goaltender Brett Brochu on Tuesday in Kitchener before falling to the Rangers by a score of 4-2. Nashville Predators prospect Luke Evangelista leads the OHL with 43 goals in 45 games. His 82 points place him fourth in the League. The Knights are in Sarnia on Wednesday.

The Flint Firebirds are an honourable mention once again, continuing to lead the Western Conference with a 33-16-1-3 record. After splitting decisions on back-to-back nights in Erie last weekend, the Firebirds came out on top in Guelph Sunday afternoon, defeating the Storm 5-1. New York Rangers prospect Brennan Othmann leads the Firebirds offensively with 37 goals, 38 assists and 75 points in 51 games. Overage netminder Luke Cavallin has also contributed to the team’s success, emerging as the OHL Goaltender of the Month for February. He’s second in OHL wins with 27 this season, posting a 3.16 goals-against average and .910 save percentage through 43 games. The Firebirds are in London on Friday for a big test against the Knights.

Toronto, Ont. – The Canadian Hockey League announced today the Week 18 edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings for the 2021-22 season.

The Hamilton Bulldogs are into the fourth spot on this week’s rankings, continuing a winning streak that has swelled to seven games. Hamilton scored victories over North Bay, Ottawa and Niagara last week, outscoring those opponents 21-7 as Logan Morrison claimed OHL Player of the Week honours with 13 points in four games. February’s OHL Player of the Month, Morrison put up 29 points in 10 contests to lead the Bulldogs to first place in the OHL standings with a .723 winning percentage. The Bulldogs have won 14 of their last 15 contests, and look to continue their dominance at home to the Mississauga Steelheads in a showdown of the Eastern Conference’s top clubs on Thursday.

The Kingston Frontenacs are hanging around at 10th on the list this week, winning two of three last week. Following a 4-1 loss to the Ottawa 67’s on Wednesday, the Fronts rebounded by defeating Oshawa 6-2 on TSN Friday night and once again by a score of 3-1 Sunday on the road. Ottawa Senators prospect Leevi Merilainen is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, going 3-0 with a 1.33 goals-against average and .948 save percentage. The 30-14-3-0 Frontenacs are five points back of the first place Bulldogs in the East Division. They’ll visit the Barrie Colts on Thursday.

The Western Conference-leading Flint Firebirds are into the honourable mention category this week after seeing an 11-game point streak snapped by the Erie Otters on Sunday. Flint defeated the Sarnia Sting in back-to-back meetings on Friday and Saturday, and own a 31-15-1-3 record. Overage goaltender Luke Cavallin, who hasn’t lost in regulation since January 16th, is the OHL Goaltender of the Month for February.

The London Knights join Flint as an honourable mention this week, leading the Midwest Division with a record of 30-13-2-0. The Knights split decisions in Sault Ste. Marie last weekend, with Nashville Predators prospect Luke Evangelista scoring a natural hat trick on Saturday to give himself 41 goals in as many games. London hosts Guelph and Windsor in back-to-back home games on Wednesday and Friday.

Toronto, Ont. – The Canadian Hockey League announced today the Week 16 edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings for the 2021-22 season.

The Hamilton Bulldogs hold steady as the seventh-ranked team in the CHL while the Kingston Frontenacs are back into the Top 10 after being an honourable mention last week. The Western Conference-leading Flint Firebirds join the OHL’s first place Mississauga Steelheads in the honourable mention category.

Hamilton defeated the Barrie Colts 5-1 on Friday before falling to Kingston 5-4 on Sunday afternoon. The loss to the Frontenacs saw Kingston climb back into first place in the East Division as the Bulldogs trail by a point with a record of 25-11-2-2 with one game in hand. Veteran winger Avery Hayes had a productive week, scoring five times in three games while top scorer Logan Morrison returned from injury to earn OHL Player of the Week honours with two goals, seven assists and nine points. Hamilton is back in action at home to Oshawa tonight before a three-game long weekend with a pair of matchups against Erie and a home date with Kingston on Saturday.

The Fronts continue to re-appear in the lower half of the CHL Top 10, back in at eighth this week as Ottawa Senators prospect Leevi Merilainen made 53 saves in Sunday’s win over Hamilton. Lucas Edmonds had a strong showing last week, becoming the first Frontenacs player to produce six points in a game (2-4–6) since Nathan Moon on Oct. 8, 2010 in a 9-6 win over Mississauga on Saturday. While Edmonds has points in six straight, overage centre Jordan Frasca joined the League’s 30-goal club over the weekend and top 2022 NHL Draft prospect Shane Wright continues to produce racking up six points (2-4–6) in his last two outings.

Winners of five in a row, the Flint Firebirds are into the honourable mention category after defeating Kitchener, Guelph and Erie last week. The Firebirds boast the OHL’s best road record of 17-5-0-1, having won seven straight away from home. New York Rangers prospect Brennan Othmann leads the way offensively with 62 points (31-31–62) in 41 games as Flint features nine different players with double-digit goal totals.

The 29-12-1-4 Mississauga Steelheads also receive an honourable mention, rebounding from a string of five consecutive losses with a 5-0 shutout of the Ottawa 67’s on Sunday, giving netminder Joe Ranger a league-leading total of four to his credit. Top 2022 NHL Draft prospect Luca Del Bel Belluz leads the Fish on the scoresheet with 61 points (24-37–61) over 46 games this season while captain and Chicago Blackhawks prospect Ethan Del Mastro leads the OHL with a plus-31 plus/minus rating.

Toronto, Ont. – The Canadian Hockey League announced today the Week 15 edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings for the 2021-22 season.

The rankings are shuffled up this week as the Mississauga Steelheads and Kingston Frontenacs have dropped down to the honourable mention category, making way for the seventh-ranked Hamilton Bulldogs and ninth-ranked London Knights who ride winning streaks into another week.

The Bulldogs are winners of six straight, continuing their surge up the standings despite the absence of Canadian Olympian Mason McTavish who is ready to hit the ice in Beijing. The Bulldogs rattled off consecutive wins over Mississauga and Peterborough last weekend before besting the Steelheads once again on Tuesday as Jan Mysak had a goal and an assist in a 4-2 triumph. Hamilton had top scorer Logan Morrison back in the lineup on Tuesday, returning from injury to record two assists and increase his point total to 48 (16-32–48) over 32 games this season. The Bulldogs host Barrie on Friday and visit Kingston on Sunday in upcoming action.

The London Knights returned from an idle weekend with three straight wins, coming in as the ninth-ranked team in the CHL. Nashville Predators prospect Luke Evangelista had a monster weekend, racking up 10 points (6-4–10) to earn OHL Player of the Week honours. Evangelista now has 32 goals in 31 games and leads the OHL with 2.06 points-per-game. Dallas Stars prospect Antonio Stranges put up back-to-back three point efforts on Saturday and Sunday, giving him 37 points (11-26–37) through 29 contests. Brett Brochu leads the League with 22 wins on the season, and leads the 24-10-1-0 Knights into Saginaw on Wednesday.

The Kingston Frontenacs defeated Barrie and Sudbury on the road before falling to the North Bay Battalion with a short bench on Sunday. The Fronts sit one point back of first place Hamilton in the East Division and prepare to host the Peterborough Petes on Wednesday.

The OHL’s first place Mississauga Steelheads are also an honourable mention, boasting a 28-10-1-4 record. The Steelheads have lost their last three games, falling to Oshawa before dropping back-to-back decisions against Hamilton.

Toronto, Ont. – The Canadian Hockey League announced today the Week 14 edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings for the 2021-22 season.

The Mississauga Steelheads are the top-ranked team in the OHL this week, climbing two spots to sixth after four straight wins since the last edition. The 28-8-1-3 Steelheads are the first place team in the OHL, having outscored opponents 143-93 this season. Mississauga took back-to-back wins over North Bay and Niagara, tightening their grip on first place in the Central Division. The big line of James Hardie, Luca Del Bel Belluz and Ty Collins continues to impress while captain Ethan Del Mastro leads the OHL with a plus-34 rating. The tandem of Roman Basran and Joe Ranger continues to hold down the fort in goal.

The Kingston Frontenacs dropped four spots to number nine on the list this week after winning two of three. The Fronts defeated the Peterborough Petes 6-3 on Thursday, edged the Oshawa Generals 4-3 on Friday and fell to the Hamilton Bulldogs by a score of 5-2 on Sunday. Kingston sits one point up on Hamilton for first place in the East Division, owning a 22-10-3-0 record. Top 2022 NHL Draft prospect Shane Wright had a productive week, recording a goal and six assists to give him 43 points (15-28–43) over 31 games this season. Overage forward Jordan Frasca leads Kingston with 24 goals.

The Hamilton Bulldogs rose into the honourable mention category after a 3-0 week. The Bulldogs defeated Niagara and Kingston without the services of star centre Mason McTavish, who is off to represent Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China.

The Soo Greyhounds hold steady in the honourable mention field, defeating the Saginaw Spirit 5-1 last Wednesday before splitting consecutive overtime outcomes on home ice, losing to Flint before defeating Barrie. The Greyhounds, who feature the OHL’s top scorer in Calgary Flames prospect Rory Kerins (25-42–67), lost key centreman Tanner Dickinson for an extended period to a broken right femur on Saturday. The St. Louis Blues prospect has been productive, recording 47 points (18-29–47) over 35 games this season.

FRONTENACS AND STEELHEADS INCLUDED IN WEEK 13 EDITION OF KIA CHL TOP 10 RANKINGS

Toronto, Ont. – The Canadian Hockey League announced today the Week 13 edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings for the 2021-22 season.

The Kia CHL Top 10 returns for the second half of the season, with the Kingston Frontenacs and Mississauga Steelheads making their way into the Top 10 while the Barrie Colts, London Knights and Soo Greyhounds earn honourable mentions.

The fifth-ranked Frontenacs skate into this week’s rankings off three consecutive wins, holding the top spot in the East Division with a 20-9-3-0 record. The Fronts defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 5-2 at home on Friday, skated to a 6-2 win over the Niagara IceDogs on Saturday and hit the road to blank the Oshawa Generals 2-0 on Sunday. Jordan Frasca had a weekend to remember with six points in the three wins while 2022 NHL Draft prospect Shane Wright scored a highlight reel goal on Sunday, extending his current point streak to four games.

The Steelheads come in at eighth on the rankings, rebounding from consecutive losses over the weekend with a 4-1 road win over the Peterborough Petes on Tuesday. Sitting at the top of the OHL standings with a 24-8-1-3 record, Mississauga has surrendered just 87 goals in 36 games as the goaltending tandem of Joe Ranger and Roman Basran continues to perform well. The Trout feature a pair of highly touted 2022 NHL Draft prospects in leading scorer Luca Del Bel Belluz (20-27–47) and Owen Beck (14-18–32) while veteran James Hardie leads the club with 26 goals. The Steelheads hit the ice for their next action on Thursday in North Bay, being featured as the CHL TV Game of the Week presented by Kubota Canada.

Toronto, Ont. – The Canadian Hockey League announced today the Week 12 edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings for the 2021-22 season.

Though idle last week, the third-ranked Kingston Frontenacs carry an eight-game winning streak into the holiday break, sitting atop the OHL standings with a record of 17-5-3-0. Overage forward Lucas Edmonds sits second in OHL scoring with 52 points (17-35–52) in 25 games along with a league-leading 121 shots on goal. The Fronts feature three players in Shane Wright (Canada), Leevi Merilainen (Finland) and Martin Chromiak (Slovakia) representing their respective countries at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

The ninth-ranked Mississauga Steelheads are back inside the Top 10 following a three-week absence. The Trout rebounded from a loss to Kingston last Sunday to defeat the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-1 on the road Wednesday night before pulling into a first place tie atop the Central Division on Friday, defeating visiting North Bay 2-1. The Steelheads have surrendered a league-low 58 goals this season as overage netminder Roman Basran leads the OHL with a 2.40 goals-against average. James Hardie has paced Mississauga offensively with 18 goals and 32 points.

The Guelph Storm round out the Top 10, making their first appearance of the season. The Storm defeated the London Knights in a second consecutive meeting on Saturday, leapfrogging the Knights for top spot in the Western Conference standings. The 17-8-1-1 Storm are now 4-0 against London this season and have won eight of their last 10 games. Top scorer Sasha Pastujov, an Anaheim Ducks prospect, is representing the United States at the World Juniors. Guelph features three rookies with at least 15 points in forwards Matthew Poitras (9-12–21), Jake Karabela (3-16–19) and defenceman Michael Buchinger (0-15–15).

Entering the break on a six-game winning streak, the Barrie Colts received an honourable mention in Week 12. The Colts defeated the Ottawa 67’s 5-2 on the road Saturday afternoon to improve to 14-7-2-0.

Toronto, Ont. – The Canadian Hockey League announced today the Week 11 edition of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings for the 2021-22 season.

The WHL’s Winnipeg ICE and Edmonton Oil Kings hold down the top two spots on the list, but the Kingston Frontenacs have surged to third, riding an eight-game winning streak to an OHL-best record of 17-5-3-0. The Frontenacs took six points out of a three-in-three set with wins over Hamilton, Niagara and Mississauga last weekend, doing so without star centreman Shane Wright in the lineup. The overage duo of Lucas Edmonds and Jordan Frasca combined for 21 points, with the former claiming OHL Player of the Week honours while climbing to the top of the OHL scoring race. The red hot Frontenacs have dates with the Barrie Colts on Friday and the Oshawa Generals on Sunday heading into the holiday break.

The North Bay Battalion slide from sixth down to eighth this week, defeating the Soo Greyhounds 5-4 in overtime on Thursday before suffering consecutive one-goal losses to the Barrie Colts. Battalion forward Brandon Coe saw a 14-game point streak come to an end as he was held off the scoresheet in consecutive games for the first time all season. The 16-8-1-2 Troops are back in action with a three-in-three starting Thursday night at home to Niagara. They hit the road for games in Mississauga on Friday and Niagara on Saturday.

The 17-7-1-0 London Knights are still hanging around inside the Top-10, falling to 10th on the list. Without the services of captain Luke Evangelista and star goaltender Brett Brochu at Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp, the Knights fell 4-1 to the Windsor Spitfires at home on Friday before losing to the visiting Guelph Storm by a score of 4-0 on Saturday. Evangelista will return to the lineup this weekend as the Knights are scheduled to host the Owen Sound Attack on Friday before visiting Guelph on Saturday afternoon.

The Mississauga Steelheads are an honourable mention following wins in two of three outings last week. The Trout defeated the Peterborough Petes 2-1 in overtime on Thursday, bludgeoned the Niagara IceDogs by a score of 9-1 at home on Friday and fell to the visiting Kingston Frontenacs 5-3 on Sunday. The Steelheads sit three points back of first place North Bay in the Central Division.
