IceDogs’ Stephen Harper named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Stephen Harper of the Niagara IceDogs is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending May 1 after scoring three goals and three assists for six points in two games with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.

Harper helped the IceDogs win the Bobby Orr Trophy as Eastern Conference Champions with a 4-0 series win over the Barrie Colts.  He earned first star honours in Game 3 last Monday with a five-point performance scoring twice with three assists as part of the 6-3 victory, then scored once as third star of Game 4’s 3-2 triumph on Wednesday.  The IceDogs captured their second Bobby Orr Trophy and first since 2012 advancing to the Rogers OHL Championship Series where they will take on the Western Conference champion London Knights beginning Thursday.

A 21-year-old from Burlington, ON, Harper is playing in his fifth career OHL season and first with the IceDogs after being acquired from the Hamilton Bulldogs in January.  In 13 games so far this post-season, Harper has collected four goals and eight assists for 12 points.  This season he recorded a career-high 71 points in 68 games played including eight goals and 22 assists in 31 games with the IceDogs and was one of three OHL overage players to finish the 2015-16 campaign with over 300 career games played.
