Kashawn Aitcheson was drafted in the third round, 50th overall by the Barrie Colts at the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. Last season was his first full season and it was a breakout year of sorts, scoring eight goals and 39 points through 64 games with the Colts. This season, he has continued to impress with his strong performances and physical play.

The 2025 NHL Entry Draft is the next step for Aitcheson. Known for his smooth skating, tenacity and physical play, Aitcheson has garnered attention from scouts and hockey fans alike. The upcoming draft will be a crucial milestone in his career, as teams will be keen to assess his potential.

In the world of hockey, only a handful names have generated more buzz for the 2025 NHL Entry Draft as Malcolm Spence. Add in his aggressive puck pursuit and motor and you have a constant threat on. He also finds success on the powerplay.

Defensive Skills: Spence is no slouch defensively. His ability to read and react as well as support his defensemen down low. He brings his aggressive attack on the penalty kill as well and does not put himself out of position when doing so.

Intangibles: Spence’s leadership qualities are exceptional. He has worn an “A” for the Otters and has been a staple on the Canadian National Team, winning gold at both the World Junior U-18’s and the Hlinka Gretzky Cup Tournament.

    OHL Writers Draft Eligible Player of the Month: January

    Forward of the Month – Michael Misa – Saginaw Spirit

    Misa continues to charge towards his goal-a-game and assist-a-game pace and January was no different as he notched 9 goals and 13 helpers in just 10 games. Misa was held without a goal in just 3 of those 10 games and without an assist in just 1 game. He now has 39 goals and 45 assists in 42 games played on the season.

    Also considered was Misa’s teammate Kristian Epperson. He posted 5 goals and 9 assists in just 7 games. Jake O’Brien of the Brantford Bulldogs had 5 goals and 11 assists in 13 games in January.

    Defenceman of the Month – Anthony Cristoforo – Windsor Spitfires

    Cristoforo appeared in 11 games for the Spitfires in January and scored 5 goals while adding 5 assists in what was his best offensive output on the season. On January 16 at home to Sudbury, he put up 7 shots on goal for a season high and still managed a 27.7 shooting percentage in the month.

    Also considered was Guelph Storm defenceman Quinn Beauchesne. He scored once and added 9 assists in 11 games during the month of January which was also easily the best offensive production of the season for him.

    Goaltender of the Month – Aleksei Medvedev – London Knights

    Medvedev is our selection for goaltender of the month for the second time this season. The London Knights netminder appeared in 6 games and boasted a 4-1-1-0 record. He had a 32 save shutout on January 17 against the Guelph Storm. For the month, he stopped 177 of 189 shots he faced for a save percentage of .937 and a goals-against-average of 2.00. Medvedev was listed as the top goaltender available for the 2025 NHL Entry Draft from the OHL and 2nd among North American netminders by NHL Central Scouting.

    Also considered was Barrie Colts netminder Sam Hillebrandt. He went 3-3-0-0 in six games in January and stopped 184 of 199 shots faced for a .925 save percentage and 2.50 goals-against-average.

    OHL Writers Draft Eligible Player of the Month: December

    Forward of the Month: Ethan Czata – Niagara IceDogs

    Czata led all draft eligible players with 9 goals and 8 assists 11 games during the month of December. When he was on, he was on. All 17 points came in games where he registered multi-point games. Of his 9 goals, 5 came in back-to-back games where he notched two against the Soo Greyhounds and followed that up with a hattrick the following night against the Sudbury Wolves. The bad news: in all but one game he did not register a point, Czata was a minus player.

    Also considered was Jake O’Brien of the Brantford Bulldogs who had 8 goals and 8 assists in 10 games. Charlie Paquette of the Guelph Storm with 7 goals and 8 assists in 11 games was also considered.

    Defenceman of the Month: Martin Matejicek – Peterborough Petes

    The overage import had arguably his best offensive performance in December with 3 goals and 6 assists in the month. He has 3 goals and 10 assists on the season. Matejicek had a two-goal performance against the Guelph Storm on December 8 as well as a 2-assist effort against the Niagara IceDogs on December first. He finished the month on a 3-game assist streak and was a plus-5 on the month.

    Also considered were a pair of Kitchener Rangers defencemen. Cameron Reid had 2 goals and 6 assists in 10 games while his teammate Carson Campbell had 8 assists in 10 games.

    Goaltender of the Month: Ben Hrebik – Barrie Colts

    Hrebik put on what was perhaps one of the best, if not the best goaltending performances by a draft eligible goaltender in recent memory. It certainly was one of the easiest choices we’ve had to make here.

    Hrebik went 6-1-1-0 in 8 appearances in December. He stopped 282 of 299 shots he faced for a whopping .943 save percentage and had a 2.14 GAA. He had a 45 save shutout on December 18 against the Owen Sound Attack and averages 37 shots against per game. He was named the OHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending December 19.

    Also considered was November’s goaltender of the month Aleksei Medvedev of the London Knights. He appeared in 5 games in December with a 3-2-0-0 record and stopped 153 of 166 shots for a .922 save percentage while posting a 2.68 GAA.

    STORM’S DANIIL SKVORTSOV ADDED TO WESTERN CONFERENCE ROSTER FOR CONNOR MCDAVID OHL TOP PROSPECTS GAME PRESENTED BY ENBRIDGE GAS

    Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League announced Tuesday that Guelph Storm defenceman Daniil Skvortsov has been added to the Western Conference roster for the upcoming Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game presented by Enbridge Gas that takes place on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 in Brantford.

    The 6-foot-4, 200Ib. Skvortsov replaces injured Erie Otters blueliner Matthew Schaefer in the Western Conference lineup. The 17-year-old from Kaluga, Russia has 11 points (4-7–11) through 31 games with the Storm this season after being chosen by Guelph with the 27th overall pick in the 2024 CHL Import Draft.

    Skvortsov was assigned a ‘C’ rating on NHL Central Scouting’s Players to Watch List released back in October, indicating a potential fourth or fifth round NHL Draft candidate. He’ll join Storm teammate Quinn Beauchesne on the Western Conference blueline.
