Team Russia Roster Announced for 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Series

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League in association with the Russian Ice Hockey Federation today announced the roster for Team Russia that will compete in the 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Series which takes place November 5-15.

A team of 23 Russian players including two goaltenders, nine defencemen, and 12 forwards will travel across Canada as part of the 16th annual series playing six games against CHL competition in preparation for the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship taking place this season in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia.

This year’s Team Russia includes 20 players born in 1999 and three born in 2000 and features five players with NHL affiliations.  Among those players is goaltender Daniil Tarasov who was chosen by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft.  An additional four were 2018 picks including second rounder Alexander Romanov (Montreal Canadiens) and fifth rounder Daniil Zhuravlev (Colorado Avalanche) on defence, along with forwards Bulat Shafigullin (Los Angeles Kings) chosen in the third round, and Pavel Shen (Boston Bruins) selected in the seventh round.

An additional 10 Russian-born CHL players, all with NHL affiliations, will compete against their respective leagues headlined by Western Hockey League defenceman Alexander Alexeyev of the Red Deer Rebels who was chosen in the first round of the 2018 NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals.  He’ll play in both games against Team WHL beginning November 5 in Kamloops followed by Game 2 on November 6 in Vancouver.  Ontario Hockey League goaltender Ivan Prosvetov (Arizona Coyotes) of the Saginaw Spirit will suit up for his home country in Game 3 of the series November 8 in Sarnia along with forwards Alexey Lipanov (Tampa Bay Lightning) of the Kitchener Rangers and Alexey Toropchenko (St. Louis Blues) of the Guelph Storm.  Edmonton Oilers prospects Kirill Maksimov of the Niagara IceDogs and defenceman Dmitri Samorukov of the Storm will dress in Sarnia and in Game 4 set for Oshawa on November 12.  Four Quebec Major Junior Hockey League players will compete November 13 in Sherbrooke and November 15 in Drummondville including Ivan Chekhovich (San Jose Sharks) of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, Alexander Khovanov (Minnesota Wild) of the Moncton Wildcats, Pavel Koltygin (Nashville Predators) of the Drummondville Voltigeurs), and Dmitry Zavgorodniy (Calgary Flames) of the Rimouski Oceanic.

Behind the bench for Team Russia is head coach Valery Bragin who is making his seventh series appearance and fifth straight.  His time with the Russian National Junior Team has led to five World Junior medals including 2011 gold in Buffalo, silver in Calgary (2012), Toronto (2015), and Finland (2016), along with bronze in Montreal (2017). 

Team Russia has captured three series victories including 2010, 2012, and 2014.

OHL Announces Top Performers of the Month for October

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the Top OHL Performers of the Month for regular season games played in October 2018, including North Bay Battalion forward Justin Brazeau, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds defenceman Mac Hollowell and Ottawa 67’s teammates Marco Rossi and Cedrick Andree.


OHL Player of the Month – Justin Brazeau (North Bay Battalion):

North Bay Battalion captain Justin Brazeau is the OHL Player of the Month for October after recording 26 points including 11 goals and 15 assists in 10 games. Brazeau’s month was headlined by a seven-point performance on Oct. 21st, helping the Battalion defeat the Kingston Frontenacs 8-3 on home ice with three goals and four assists. The seven points tied a franchise record set in 2006 and also helped Brazeau earn both CHL and OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week honours. The 6-foot-6 winger also had a five point outing with two goals and three assists in a 5-3 win over Flint on Oct. 12th. More recently he put up four points with a goal and three helpers in a 5-2 win over the Erie Otters on Oct. 27th. In total, Brazeau recorded points in eight of his 10 outings, coming away with multi-point totals in six of them. He earned first star honours three times, second star recognition twice and was named third star on one occasion.

A 20-year-old native of New Liskeard, Ont., Brazeau is currently in his fourth OHL season after being a 13th round pick by the Battalion in 2014. He enters November as the OHL’s scoring leader with 33 points (16-17–33) over 15 contests and is just six goals shy of becoming the Battalion’s new career goal-scoring leader during the franchise’s tenure in North Bay. Over 215 career regular season games he has found the back of the net 83 times, added 75 assists and put up 158 points. Brazeau attended training camp with the San Jose Sharks this past September.


OHL Defenceman of the Month – Mac Hollowell (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds):

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Mac Hollowell of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds is the OHL Defenceman of the Month for October after leading all rearguards with 15 points over 13 games. Hollowell’s four goals and 11 assists helped the Greyhounds climb into the West Division lead, entering November with a record of 11-3-3-0. The overage blueliner had points in 11 of his 13 outings, wrapping up the month on a four-game trend. His October was headlined by a pair of three-point performances, first recording a goal and two assists in a 6-3 win over the Saginaw Spirit on Oct. 17th before picking up three assists two nights later in a 4-3 triumph over the Kingston Frontenacs. While Hollowell was effective offensively, he also played a big role in helping the Greyhounds rise to second on the OHL’s penalty killing rankings.

A 20-year-old native of Niagara Falls, Ont., Hollowell’s outstanding month of October came after he was returned to the OHL by the Toronto Maple Leafs, who selected him in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft. The 5-foot-10, 163Ib. smooth-skating defender is in his fourth full OHL season and has appeared in 208 career regular season games, recording 22 goals, 99 assists and 121 points in the process. He was originally Sault Ste. Marie’s 12th round pick in 2014.


OHL Rookie of the Month – Marco Rossi (Ottawa 67’s):

After a sensational first month of his OHL career, Ottawa 67’s forward Marco Rossi is the OHL Rookie of the Month for October. The Austrian centreman recorded 16 points including nine goals and seven assists in 11 games to go with a league-high plus/minus rating of plus-18, helping the 67’s take the East Division lead with an overall record of 12-3-1-0. Rossi’s month included a pair of three-point performances, with the first including two goals and an assist in a 4-1 win over the Windsor Spitfires on Oct. 12th. He registered a goal and two assists in a 3-1 road win over the Mississauga Steelheads on Oct. 21st. Three of his nine goals were of the game-winning variety. Playing alongside veterans Tye Felhaber and Austen Keating, Rossi has been among the league’s top faceoff men, winning nearly 60% of his draws in the month of October.

A 17-year-old native of Feldkirch, Austria, Rossi has 18 points (9-9–18) through 16 games this season. The 18th overall pick of the 2018 CHL Import Draft, Rossi isn’t eligible for the NHL Draft until 2020. He spent last season with the Swiss Jr. A circuit’s GCK Lions where he put up 51 points (22-29–51) over 34 games.

Vaughn OHL Goaltender of the Month – Cedrick Andree (Ottawa 67’s):

A perfect 8-0-0-0 month of October has earned Ottawa 67’s netminder Cedrick Andree Vaughn OHL Goaltender of the Month honours. Andree won all eight of his starts, recording a league-leading 1.72 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage in the process as the 67’s surged up the standings as well as the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings. The sophomore didn’t surrender more than three goals in any of his starts, with his best effort coming on Oct. 21st in Mississauga when he made 31 saves as the 67’s defeated the Steelheads 3-1. He limited the opposition to just one goal on three other occasions including a 4-1 win over Kingston on Oct. 10th, a 4-1 win over Windsor on Oct. 12th and a 2-1 overtime win over London on Oct. 26th.

An 18-year-old native of Orleans, Ont., Andree holds a 10-2-0-0 record, 2.59 goals-against average and .905 save percentage in this, his second OHL season. The 5-foot-10, 165Ib. goaltender appeared in 13 games with the 67’s last season after being the club’s 12th round pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection.

OHL Announces Leadership Group for 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Series

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League, in collaboration with the Canadian Hockey League and Hockey Canada, today announced that Nick Suzuki of the Owen Sound Attack and Jack Studnicka of the Oshawa Generals will serve as Team OHL captains for the 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Series.

Suzuki will lead Team OHL in Game 3 of the series against the Russian National Junior Team taking place in Sarnia on Thursday November 8, while Studnicka will wear the ‘C’ in front of his home Oshawa crowd for Game 4 on Monday November 12.  In addition, the OHL has announced that forwards Barrett Hayton of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Owen Tippett of the Mississauga Steelheads will serve as alternate captains for Team OHL.

A 19-year-old from London, Ont., Suzuki is a fourth year forward with the Attack and was appointed team captain prior to the start of the 2018-19 season.  Originally chosen by the club in the first round of the 2015 OHL Priority Selection, he’s played in 205 career games amassing an impressive 253 points including 117 goals, 136 assists, and just 36 penalty minutes notably earning back-to-back recognition with the league’s Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year award.  Suzuki was a first round pick by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Draft but joined the Montreal Canadiens in an off-season trade.  He will be competing for Team OHL a second straight season after serving as an alternate captain last year in Sudbury where he scored two goals and an assist in a 4-2 win.

Studnicka is a 19-year-old from Tecumseh, Ont., also playing in his fourth OHL season after being a first round pick by the Generals in 2015.  He’s currently in the midst of his second season serving as team captain in Oshawa where he was named a leader after being a second round pick by the Boston Bruins in the 2017 NHL Draft.  Studnicka has played in 205 career games producing 50 goals and 118 assists for 168 points.  He returns to the Team OHL lineup after competing last season in Sudbury.

Hayton will make his Team OHL debut this season competing in both Sarnia and Oshawa with a letter on his jersey.  The 18-year-old from Peterborough, Ont., and third year Greyhounds veteran was named team captain upon his return from the Arizona Coyotes where he was chosen fifth overall in the 2018 NHL Draft.  In nine games so far this season he’s collected six goals and eight assists for 14 points bringing his career total to 101 points through 135 games since being the ninth overall pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection.  Last season Hayton was named the OHL’s Scholastic Player of the Year while helping the Hounds win a team record 55 games.

Tippett will be among Team OHL’s most experienced players in Canada Russia Series competition playing in the event for a third straight year.  The 19-year-old Peterborough native was named Player of the Game with two assists in his debut performance back in 2016 in North Bay despite a 4-3 OHL loss.  He also played in two games last season recording two assists just days after returning from the Florida Panthers where he played seven games as the club’s 10th overall pick in 2017.  Tippett just recently eclipsed the century mark for career goals and now has 103 with 81 assists for 184 points in 167 games for the Steelheads.  The fourth overall pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection is serving his second season as an alternate captain in Mississauga.

All four players were invited to Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Summer Showcase.


In 15 years of competition against the Russian National Junior Team, the OHL has a record of 24-5-1 in this series following a 5-2 loss in Owen Sound and a 4-2 victory in Sudbury last season.

Chekhovich and Dhillon earn national honours

Drakkar’s Ivan Chekhovich named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that San Jose Sharks prospect Ivan Chekhovich of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar is the CHL Player of the Week for the regular season week ending October 28 after scoring five goals and three assists for eight points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.

Chekhovich began the week in style delivering his second five-point performance of the 2018-19 season which included a hat-trick and two assists as first star of Wednesday’s 6-5 shootout victory over the Quebec Remparts.  On Friday night he contributed a first period goal as part of another shootout victory for the Drakkar, this time against the Chicoutimi Sagueneens by a 4-3 score to open the rivalry week home-and-home series.  The Drakkar also emerged victorious in Saturday’s rematch in Baie-Comeau by a 4-1 score with Chekhovich netting a goal and an assist while earning third star honours.  The three-game win-streak lifted the Drakkar back into first place in the QMJHL’s overall standings with a 12-3-0-1 record.

A 19-year-old from Yekaterinburg, Russia, Chekhovich is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Drakkar since joining the club as the third overall selection in the 2016 CHL Import Draft.  Through 16 games his 10 goals and 14 assists give him 24 points which ranks tied for fifth overall in the QMJHL.  The seventh round pick of the Sharks in 2017 is expected to compete in the 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Series representing his country against Team QMJHL November 13 in Sherbooke and November 15 in Drummondville.

Also considered for the award this week was last week’s recipient Justin Brazeau of the North Bay Battalion with four goals and four assists for eight points in three games, and Washington Capitals prospect Alexander Alexeyev of the Red Deer Rebels who scored three goals and five assists for eight points in four games.

IceDogs’ Stephen Dhillon named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Stephen Dhillon of the Niagara IceDogs is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the regular season week ending October 28 with a 3-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.97 and save percentage of .970.

Dhillon picked up his first shutout of the season last Wednesday with a 28-save performance that earned him first star honours in a 3-0 victory over the Peterborough Petes.  He helped extend the IceDogs winning-streak to four with a pair of road wins in Michigan including a 3-2 shootout triumph on Saturday over the Saginaw Spirit where he made 36 saves, then a 7-1 win over the Flint Firebirds on Sunday where he stopped 33 and was named the game’s third star.  Niagara has now climbed into first place in the OHL’s Central Division standings with a 9-4-2-0 record.

A 20-year-old from Buffalo, New York, Dhillon is now a five-year veteran of the IceDogs who chose him in the third round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.  He’s on pace for his best season to date with seven wins in 11 games while carrying a goals-against-average of 2.59 and a save percentage of .921.

Also considered for the award this week was Creed Jones of the Gatineau Olympiques who posted a 2-0-0-0 record stopping 64 shots for a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .970.  In the WHL, 2019 NHL Draft prospect Dustin Wolf of the Everett Silvertips who posted a 3-1-0-0 record including a shutout victory stopping 93 shots for a goals-against-average of 1.01 and save percentage of .959.

Battalion’s Justin Brazeau named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Justin Brazeau of the North Bay Battalion is the CHL Player of the Week for the regular season week ending October 21 after recording nine points in two games including four goals and five assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.

Brazeau produced a pair of multi-point performances highlighted by a Battalion record-tying output to take over the lead in the OHL’s scoring race.  He scored a goal and an assist on Thursday earning second star honours despite a 4-3 loss to the Mississauga Steelheads, then scored a hat-trick with four assists on Sunday as first star of an 8-3 win over the Kingston Frontenacs.  The hat-trick was his second of the season, scored entirely in the first period, while the seven points match the club’s all-time best set by Wojtek Wolski back in 2006.

A 20-year-old from New Liskeard, Ont., Brazeau is playing in his fourth season with the Battalion who chose him in the 13th round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.  His league-best 25 points in 12 games includes 12 goals and 13 assists bringing him a third of the way towards his career-high 75 points recorded in 68 games last season.  The overage forward was named team captain prior to the 2018-19 season after attending San Jose Sharks Training Camp as a Free Agent invite.

Also considered for the award this week was Mark Kastelic of the Calgary Hitmen who scored five goals and three assists for eight points in four games, and Daniel Hardie of the Charlottetown Islanders with three goals and three assists for six points in two games.

Armada’s Émile Samson named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Émile Samson of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the regular season week ending October 21 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record with one shutout for a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .984.

Samson turned aside 61 shots last week for the Armada who climbed into seventh place in the QMJHL’s overall standings holding a 7-4-1-0 record.  He recorded his first shutout of the season on Friday night with a 32-save performance to blank the Val-d’Or Foreurs by a 4-0 score while earning third star honours.  On Saturday night he delivered a first star effort against the Quebec Remparts featuring 29 saves in a 4-1 triumph.

A 19-year-old from Lévis, Quebec, Samson is playing in his second QMJHL season with the Armada after joining the club as a Free Agent one year ago.  So far this season he carries a 6-2-1-0 record with the league’s second best goals-against-average and save percentage with marks of 1.86 and .939 respectively.  Last season as a rookie he won 17 of his 27 regular season appearances followed by another 13 playoff victories helping the Armada reach the President Cup Final.

Also considered for the award this week was Boston Bruins prospect Kyle Keyser of the Oshawa Generals who posted a 3-0-0-0 record making 88 saves for a goals-against-average of 1.33 and save percentage of .957, and rookie Trent Miner of the Vancouver Giants who went 1-0-1-0 stopping 59 shots for a goals-against-average of 1.48 and save percentage of .952.

Team OHL Roster Announced for 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Series

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League, in collaboration with the Canadian Hockey League and Hockey Canada, today announced the Team OHL rosters for the 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Series.

Team OHL will compete against the Russian National Junior Team in Game 3 of the six-game cross Canada series in Sarnia on Thursday November 8 and in Game 4 in Oshawa on Monday November 12.  The series will begin with two games in the Western Hockey League and will wrap up with two games played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

A total of 31 players have been selected to represent the OHL in the 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Series including nine players who will compete in both Ontario games.  The rosters feature 24 players who have been selected in the NHL Draft including first round picks Barrett Hayton (Arizona Coyotes, 5th in 2018) and Morgan Frost (Philadelphia Flyers, 27th in 2017) of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, Owen Tippett (Florida Panthers, 10th in 2017) of the Mississauga Steelheads, Ty Dellandrea (Dallas Stars, 13th in 2018) of the Flint Firebirds, Nick Suzuki (Vegas Golden Knights, 13th in 2017) of the Owen Sound Attack, Liam Foudy (Columbus Blue Jackets, 18th in 2018) of the London Knights, and Ryan Merkley (San Jose Sharks, 21st in 2018) of the Guelph Storm.  Three players who are first time eligible for the NHL Draft in 2019 have also been named to the roster including forward Ryan Suzuki of the Barrie Colts, defenceman Thomas Harley of the Mississauga Steelheads, and goaltender Hunter Jones of the Peterborough Petes.

Sting captain and Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ryan McGregor will have the opportunity to compete before the hometown crowd in Sarnia on November 8, while a trio of Oshawa Generals including captain Jack Studnicka (Boston Bruins), Serron Noel (Florida Panthers), and defenceman Giovanni Vallati (Winnipeg Jets) will represent the hosts on November 12.

The Team OHL rosters were assembled by a Selection Committee that includes Owen Sound Attack General Manager Dale DeGray and Ottawa 67’s General Manager James Boyd in consultation with Hockey Canada Head Scout Brad McEwen and Hockey Canada Program of Excellence National Junior Team Manager Steve Staios of the Hamilton Bulldogs.

In 15 years of competition against the Russian National Junior Team, the OHL has a record of 24-5-1 in this series following a 5-2 loss in Owen Sound and a 4-2 victory in Sudbury last season.

CHL Announces Weekly Award Winners

Spirit’s Damien Giroux named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Minnesota Wild prospect Damien Giroux of the Saginaw Spirit is the CHL Player of the Week for the regular season week ending October 14 after scoring four goals and three assists for seven points in two games with a plus-minus rating of plus-7.

Giroux contributed to seven of the Spirit’s eight goals last week helping extend their winning-streak to five games for a hold of first place in the OHL’s West Division standings with a 6-2-1-0 record.  His first of back-to-back multi-point performances featured a career-high five points and first hat-trick scored entirely in the third period to earn first star honours of a 6-2 win over the North Bay Battalion.  On Sunday the first year captain scored the game-winning goal for the second straight game and added one assist as second star of a 2-1 victory over the Kitchener Rangers.

An 18-year-old from Hanmer, Ont., Giroux is playing in his third season with the Spirit after being chosen by the club in the third round of the 2016 OHL Priority Selection.  So far this season he’s produced six goals and five assists for 11 points in nine games following a sophomore season of 19 goals and 24 assists for 43 points in 68 games.  Giroux was picked by the Wild in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft in June.

Also considered for the award this week was forward Brett Leason of the Prince Albert Raiders who scored five goals and three assists for eight points in three games, and top 2020 NHL Draft prospect Alexis Lafreniere of the Rimouski Oceanic who scored twice with seven assists for nine points in four games.

Mooseheads’ Alexis Gravel named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Chicago Blackhawks prospect Alexis Gravel of the Halifax Mooseheads is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the regular season week ending October 14 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record including one shutout victory for a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .970.

Gravel turned aside 65 shots last week for the Mooseheads who have now won three-straight games and rank second in the QMJHL’s overall standings with an 8-2-0-0 record.  On Thursday night his 35-save performance earned him third star honours in an 8-2 road win over the Charlottetown Islanders.  Then on Sunday his 30-save effort produced his second career shutout and first star honours blanking the Acadie-Bathurst Titan by a 5-0 score.

An 18-year-old from Asbestos, Que., Gravel is playing in his third season with the Mooseheads who chose him in the second round of the 2016 QMJHL Entry Draft.  So far this season he has six wins in eight starts for the 2019 Memorial Cup presented by Kia hosts maintaining a 2.51 goals-against-average and a .927 save percentage which improve upon his 2017-18 marks of 3.38 and .890 respectively in 39 appearances.  Gravel was a sixth round selection by the Blackhawks in the 2018 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the award this week was 2019 NHL Draft prospect Hunter Jones of the Peterborough Petes who posted a 4-0-0-0 record making 122 saves for a goals-against-average of 1.19 and save percentage of .968.  In the WHL, Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ian Scott of the Prince Albert Raiders maintained a 3-0-0-0 record including one shutout victory while stopping a total of 77 shots for a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .963.

2018 CIBC Canada Russia Series Coaching Staffs

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League in association with the Western Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League, and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, today announced the coaching staffs for the 2018 CIBC Canada Russia Series.

The six-game series features regional league teams of Canadian National Junior Team candidates competing against the Russian National Junior Team and is an integral part of the identification process for Team Canada prior to the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship which returns to Canadian soil this December in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia.

Canada’s National Junior Team staff will be at the forefront of the CIBC Canada Russia Series with head coach Tim Hunter leading Team WHL when the puck drops in Kamloops on November 5 and in Vancouver on November 6.  Team Canada assistant coaches Brent Kisio, Jim Hulton, and Marc-André Dumont will also figure prominently in the November series with Kisio serving in an assistant role for Team WHL, with Hulton to lead Team QMJHL as head coach and Dumont appointed Team QMJHL assistant.

Hunter won back-to-back medals as an assistant coach with Team Canada including gold in 2018 and silver in 2017.  The fifth year head coach of the Moose Jaw Warriors also won a bronze medal as head coach of Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team at the 2015 IIHF U18 World Championship.  He returns to the Team WHL bench for the third straight season where he has compiled a 2-1-1 record.

Kisio’s Hockey Canada resume includes a gold medal as head coach of Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.  The fourth year head coach of the Lethbridge Hurricanes was also a head coach of Team Canada White at the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and earned silver with Team Pacific at the 2014 U17 event.

Hulton returns to the Under-20 sector of the Program of Excellence for the first time in over a decade having previously won World Junior silver in 2004 and gold in 2005 in assistant coaching roles.  Now in his fourth season behind the Charlottetown Islanders bench, Hulton makes a second straight appearance at this event after assisting Dom Ducharme to a pair of Team QMJHL victories last season in Charlottetown and Moncton.

Dumont has served as head coach and general manager of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles since 2012-13.  With Hockey Canada, he previously served as head coach of Team Quebec at the 2009 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Leading Team OHL in Game 3 of the series on November 8 in Sarnia will be fourth year Sting head coach Derian Hatcher alongside his assistants David Legwand and Brad Staubitz.  For Game 4 in Oshawa on November 12 it will be Generals first year head coach Greg Walters with assistants Nathan McIver and Greg Nemisz.

Third year Kelowna Rockets head coach Jason Smith also joins the Team WHL coaching staff as an assistant for both games in British Columbia.  In the QMJHL, third year Sherbrooke Phoenix head coach Stéphane Julien will serve as an assistant when his club hosts Game 5 of the series on November 13, with first year Drummondville Voltigeurs head coach Steve Hartley serving as an assistant when his club hosts Game 6 to close out the series on November 15.

Since the event first began in 2003, CHL teams have played to an overall record of 61-22-1-6.  The competitiveness of the rivalry has grown in recent years with five of the last eight series decided in the final game including last season where for the first time in event history a QMJHL shootout victory determined the overall series outcome in favour of the CHL after both countries played to a 9-9 tie in points through six games.
