Spitfires’ Michael DiPietro named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that 2017 NHL Draft prospect Michael DiPietro of the Windsor Spitfires is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 11 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record with three shutouts for a goals-against-average of 0.00 and save percentage of 1.000.

DiPietro was perfect in goal last week turning aside all 64 shots he faced backstopping the Spitfires to a trio of road victories to reclaim first place in the OHL’s West Division standings with a 21-5-4-0 record.  The sophomore netminder spoiled the holiday fun in Barrie, Sudbury, and North Bay blanking the hometown opposition in all three of their annual Teddy Bear Toss promotional nights.  On Thursday night he earned first star honours with 21 saves in a 3-0 win over the Colts, then stopped 22 shots on Saturday in a 6-0 win over the Wolves, and ended the week Sunday with a 21-save performance as first star of a 3-0 win against the Battalion.  DiPietro’s shutout-streak now stands at 204:16 and approaches recent marks set by Owen Sound’s Jordan Binnington (211:32, 2012-13) and Niagara’s Mark Visentin (237:53, 2011-12).

A 17-year-old from Amherstburg, ON, DiPietro now leads the OHL with four shutouts while carrying the league’s lowest goals-against-average with a mark of 2.11 and highest save percentage at .922.  The second round pick of the Spitfires in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection has made 22 appearances this season for the Mastercard Memorial Cup hosts and carries a 15-3-4-0 record.

Also considered for the award this week was Hayden Hodgson of the Saginaw Spirit who scored seven goals and two assists for nine points in three games, Los Angeles Kings prospect Spencer Watson of the Mississauga Steelheads scored six goals and one assist for seven points in his first three games of the season, and Anaheim Ducks prospect Jack Kopacka of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds who scored six goals in three games.

Otters’ Alex DeBrincat named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Chicago Blackhawks prospect Alex DeBrincat of the Erie Otters is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 4 after recording 10 points in four games scoring five goals and five assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-6.

DeBrincat earns the award for the second time this season helping the Otters grab six of a possible eight points to climb into first place in the Midwest Division standings with a 21-6-2-0 record.  His top performance came last Tuesday night where he and linemates Dylan Strome and Taylor Raddysh each collected five-points in a 9-2 win over the Mississauga Steelheads with DeBrincat claiming second star honours scoring his first hat-trick of the season and adding two assists.  His week also included a three-game divisional road trip beginning in Guelph followed by back-to-back games in Owen Sound.  On Friday night he tallied an assist in a 3-1 loss to the Storm, then picked up a helper in Saturday’s 3-2 triumph over the Attack, and ended with two goals and one assist on Sunday as second star of a 6-1 win.

An 18-year-old from Farmington Hills, Michigan, DeBrincat is playing in his third career OHL season with the Otters.  The second round pick of the Blackhawks in the 2016 NHL Draft recently earned Co-Player of the Month honours for November alongside Raddysh and trails his teammate in the league’s scoring race by two points with 56 through 26 games including a league-high 28 goals.

Also considered for the award this week was Sudbury Wolves sophomore forward David Levin who scored twice with five assists for seven points in three games, and New York Islanders prospect Mitchell Vande Sompel of the Oshawa Generals who scored four goals and one assist for five points in two games.  In goal, the Otters’ Troy Timpano made 102 saves in three games posting a 3-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.67 and save percentage of .953.

Greyhounds’ Boris Katchouk named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Boris Katchouk of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 27 after scoring four goals and two assists for six points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

Katchouk extended his personal point-streak to seven games which aligns with the Greyhounds current winning-streak of seven that includes a trio of road victories last week.  On Thursday night Katchouk earned first star honours with two goals and an assist in a 6-1 win over the North Bay Battalion.  His week continued Friday in Mississauga scoring the insurance marker for the Hounds who erased a 3-1 third period deficit to emerge victorious by a 5-3 count over the Steelheads before a national audience in this season’s regular season debut of the CHL on Sportsnet. Katchouk finished the week Sunday with a goal and an assist as third star of an 8-3 win over the Eastern Conference leading Oshawa Generals.  The Greyhounds now lead the OHL’s West Division standings with an 18-7-1-0 record.

An 18-year-old from Waterloo, ON, Katchouk is playing in his third career season with the Greyhounds after being chosen by the club in the second round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.  The second round pick of the Lightning in the 2016 NHL Draft currently has 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points in 24 games after recording 24 goals and 27 assists for 51 points in 63 games last season.  Earlier this month in Hamilton, Katchouk represented Team OHL in Game 4 of the CIBC Canada Russia Series and scored a goal in the 5-2 victory.

Also considered for the award this week was defenceman Ryan Mantha and forward Alex DeBrincat.  The Niagara IceDogs captain scored four goals and two assists for six points in three games, while the Chicago Blackhawks prospect netted three goals and two assists for five points in two games for the Erie Otters.   In goal, the IceDogs’ Stephen Dhillon made 59 saves in two games where he earned two victories while posting a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .967.

Rangers’ Jeremy Bracco named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Jeremy Bracco of the Kitchener Rangers is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 20 recording 10 points in four games scoring five goals and five assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-8.

Bracco earns the award for a second time this season after extending his season-long point-streak to an OHL-best 19 games as the Rangers won three of four games last week.  His week included two four-point performances Thursday night with a hat-trick and assist in a 7-4 win over the Peterborough Petes, and Sunday afternoon with two goals and two assists as first star of a 6-3 win over the Guelph Storm.  Bracco also tallied an assist last Tuesday in a 4-3 loss to the London Knights, and another helper Friday as part of a 3-2 win over the Oshawa Generals.

A 19-year-old from Freeport, NY, Bracco is playing in his second OHL season with the Rangers and was a second round pick of the Leafs in the 2015 NHL Draft.  He is currently third in OHL scoring with 40 points in 19 games including 16 goals and 24 assists after scoring 21 goals and 43 assists for 64 points in 49 games last season.  His assist on Friday against Oshawa marked his 100th career point with the Rangers.

Also considered for the award this week was Buffalo Sabres prospect Cliff Pu of the London Knights with four goals and five assists for nine points in four games, and fellow Ranger, Adam Mascherin, a Florida Panthers prospect who scored five goals and three assists for eight points in four games.  In goal, rookie Matthew Villalta of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds went 2-0-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 2.00 and save percentage of .933.

Petes’ Jonathan Ang named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Florida Panthers prospect Jonathan Ang of the Peterborough Petes is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 13 after scoring four goals and three assists for seven points in four games with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

Ang’s seven points led the league in scoring last week as the Petes wrapped up a three-game West Division road trip.  Before heading west, the Petes picked up a win on home ice last Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over the Niagara IceDogs in a special ‘throwback’ game paying tribute to the very first Peterborough and St. Catharines matchup 60 years ago.  Ang first hit the score sheet Friday recording his second hat-trick of the month and earning first star honours in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Flint Firebirds.  He also picked up an assist on Saturday in a 7-4 loss to the Saginaw Spirit, then finished the week Sunday with a goal and two assists as third star of a 4-3 loss to the Windsor Spitfires.

An 18-year-old from Markham, ON, Ang is playing in his third career season with the Petes who chose him in the first round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.  He currently leads the Petes with 20 points in 19 games including 10 goals and 10 assists and was a fourth round pick of the Florida Panthers in the 2016 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the award this week was Toronto Maple Leafs prospect JJ Piccinich of the London Knights and Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Taylor Raddysh of the Erie Otters.  The newly appointed captain of the Knights, Piccinich, recorded two goals and four assists for six points in two games, while Raddysh, the league’s top scorer, netted three goals and three assists for six points in four games.  In goal, Stephen Dhillon of the Niagara IceDogs made 123 saves in three games posting a record of 2-1-0-0 along with a goals-against-average of 1.67 and save percentage of .961.

Otters’ Alex DeBrincat named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Chicago Blackhawks prospect Alex DeBrincat of the Erie Otters is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 6 after scoring five goals and six assists for 11 points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.

DeBrincat produced a trio of multi-point performances scoring the game-winning goal in all three games for the Otters last week who improved their first place record to 13-3-1-0.  His week began with a Wednesday morning battle against the Guelph Storm in the Otters’ annual School Day game scoring two goals including the overtime winner while adding an assist as first star of the 5-4 triumph.  On Friday night in Mississauga he tallied a goal and two assists as the Otters defeated the Steelheads 7-4.  His week wrapped up Saturday earning first star honours for matching a career-high with five points fueled by two goals and three assists as the Otters erased a 3-2 third period deficit coming back to beat the Kitchener Rangers by a 7-3 score.  DeBrincat is the second straight Otter to earn Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week honours following goaltender Troy Timpano.

An 18-year-old from Farmington Hills, Michigan, DeBrincat is playing in his third career OHL season with the Otters.  The 2015 CHL Rookie of the Year has recorded back-to-back 51-goal campaigns collecting 205 points in his first two OHL seasons.  The second round pick of the Blackhawks in the 2016 NHL Draft signed his entry-level contract with the club today and currently leads the league with 17 goals and ranks second in overall scoring with 35 points in 14 games.

Also considered for the award this week was fellow Otter and OHL Top Scorer Taylor Raddysh, a Tampa Bay Lightning prospect who scored four goals and seven assists for 11 points in three games, and 2017 NHL Draft prospect Nick Suzuki of the Owen Sound Attack who scored three goals and five assists for eight points in three games.  In goal, Edmonton Oilers prospect Dylan Wells of the Peterborough Petes posted a 2-0-0-0 record with 67 saves for a goals-against-average of 1.98 and save percentage of .944.

Otters’ Troy Timpano named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Erie Otters goaltender Troy Timpano is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 30 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .962.

Timpano made 51 saves in two games backstopping the Otters to a pair of victories for a share of the Midwest Division lead with 21 points (10-3-1-0) in 14 games.  On Thursday night he made 24 saves as part of a 5-2 win over the Barrie Colts, then earned first star honours Saturday with a 27-save performance recording his second shutout of the season by a 6-0 score over the Saginaw Spirit.  The victory extended Timpano’s personal win-streak to a perfect eight games to start the 2016-17 campaign.

An 18-year-old from Pickering, ON, Timpano is playing in his fourth career OHL season and first with the Otters after being acquired in the off-season from the Sudbury Wolves where he was a second round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection.  Through eight games he leads the league with a 1.88 goals-against-average, and has the second best save percentage with a mark of .931.

Honourable mention for the award this week goes to Bobby MacIntyre of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds who recorded seven points in three games including two goals and five assists climbing to a tie for second overall in the OHL scoring race with 27 points.  Also considered was Vancouver Canucks prospect Brett McKenzie of the North Bay Battalion with six points in three games including three goals and three assists, and the Otters’ Brett Neumann with five points in two games including two goals and three assists.

Knights’ Max Jones named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Anaheim Ducks prospect Max Jones of the London Knights is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 23 after scoring two goals and five assists for seven points in two games along with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

Jones extended his season-long point-streak to six with a pair of multi-point performances last week for the Knights who have now won three-straight games.  On Thursday night he collected three assists in a 5-4 comeback win over the Kitchener Rangers including a helper on Victor Mete’s last minute game-winner.  Then on Friday night, Jones had the best offensive game of his career with two goals and two assists as first star of a 5-1 win over the Saginaw Spirit.  Following a 7-2 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs on Sunday, the Knights now carry a 7-2-1-1 record for 16 points in the Midwest Division.

An 18-year-old from Orion, Michigan, Jones is playing in his second career OHL season with the Knights after being a first round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.  Jones scored 28 goals with 24 assists for 52 points in 63 games as a rookie before being chosen 24th overall by the Ducks in the 2016 NHL Draft.  In August the power forward was signed to an entry-level contract before attending his first NHL Training Camp with Anaheim.

Rangers’ Jeremy Bracco named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Jeremy Bracco of the Kitchener Rangers is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 16 after leading the league with 13 points in four games scoring four goals and nine assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

Bracco extended his season-long point-streak to six games with four multi-point performances last week as the Midwest Division leading Rangers earned three wins.  The highlight of his week was on Thanksgiving Monday where he recorded a career-high five points including his first hat-trick earning first star honours in an 8-4 win over the Guelph Storm.  On Friday night he scored a goal and two assists as third star of a 6-2 win over the Saginaw Spirit, then tallied three assists on Saturday in a 5-3 loss to the Owen Sound Attack.  His week wrapped up Sunday with two helpers and third star recognition in a 3-2 road triumph over the Storm.  The Rangers now have 13 points in nine games carrying a record of 6-2-0-1.

A 19-year-old from Freeport, NY, Bracco is playing in his second OHL season with the Rangers and was a second round pick of the Leafs in the 2015 NHL Draft.  He is currently tied for third in OHL scoring with 17 points in six games after scoring 21 goals and 43 assists for 64 points in 49 games last season.

Also considered for the award this week was Bracco’s teammate Adam Mascherin, a Florida Panthers prospect who produced 12 points in four games including three goals and nine assists.  New Jersey Devils prospect Michael McLeod recorded eight points in three games including one goal and seven assists.  In goal, Montreal Canadiens prospect Michael McNiven of the Owen Sound Attack went 2-0-0-0 with a shutout victory posting a goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .946.

Greyhounds’ Joseph Raaymakers named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that goaltender Joseph Raaymakers of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 2 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.94 and save percentage of .930.

Raaymakers returned from New York Rangers Training Camp and into the Greyhounds crease stopping 80 shots and helping the club to three straight road victories over tough Western Conference opposition last week.  He made 28 saves and earned third star honours in his season debut last Thursday as part of a 3-1 win over the Windsor Spitfires, then made 35 saves on Friday night in London plus another two in the shootout as third star of a 3-2 triumph over the Knights.  His week wrapped up Sunday with a 17-save performance in a 3-2 overtime win against the Sarnia Sting.

An 18-year-old from Chatham, ON, Raaymakers is playing in his third OHL season with the Greyhounds who chose him in the second round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.  Last season he made 28 appearances between the pipes posting a 13-10-3-1 record along with a 3.61 goals-against-average and .891 save percentage.  Raaymakers’ NHL Camp invitation included a 31-save performance for the Rangers in a 2-1 victory over Minnesota Wild rookies at the annual Traverse City Prospects Tournament.

Also considered for the award this week was Dallas Stars prospect Nicholas Caamano of the Flint Firebirds who scored three goals and four assists for seven points in two games, 2017 NHL Draft prospect Austen Keating of the Ottawa 67’s who scored once with seven assists for eight points in three games, and Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Nikita Korostelev of the Sting who scored four goals and two assists for six points in three games.
