Top teams get top performances with Huskies’ Abbandonato and Raiders’ Scott

Huskies’ Peter Abbandonato named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that QMJHL top scorer Peter Abbandonato of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies is the CHL Player of the Week for the regular season week ending November 18 recording 10 points in two games including six goals and four assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

Abbandonato delivered back-to-back five-point performances last week for the Huskies who extended their winning-streak to seven games to maintain a shared hold on first place in the QMJHL standings with a 19-4-0-0 record.  He scored his first career hat-trick and added two assists on Friday night earning second star honours in a big 11-1 win over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, then repeated his efforts on Saturday but was named first star of a 6-4 victory against the Victoriaville Tigres.

A 20-year-old from Laval, QC, Abbandonato is playing in his fourth season with the Huskies after joining the club as a second round pick in the 2014 QMJHL Entry Draft.  So far this season he’s produced 12 goals and 33 assists for 45 points in 23 games to lead all QMJHL scorers.  This past week he eclipsed the 200-point milestone with his totals now standing at 201 generated by 65 goals and 136 assists in 219 games.

Also considered for the award this week was Florida Panthers prospect Owen Tippett of the Mississauga Steelheads who scored five goals and three assists for eight points in three games, and Tristin Langan of the Moose Jaw Warriors who scored three goals with five assists for eight points in three games.

Raiders’ Ian Scott named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ian Scott of the Prince Albert Raiders is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the regular season week ending November 18 posting a 3-0-0-0 record with two shutout victories for a goals-against-average of 0.33 and save percentage of .989.

Scott turned aside 92 shots in a trio of wins to extend the Raiders impressive streak to 13 continuing their dominance atop the national rankings with a 20-1-0-0 record.  Last Wednesday he stopped a season-high 43 shots earning first star honours in a 2-0 shutout victory against the Medicine Hat Tigers, then stopped 23 of 24 on Friday as first star of a 3-1 win against the Tri-City Americans.  That game was extra special for Scott who scored an empty-net goal becoming the first WHL netminder since Stuart Skinner in March, 2016, to find the back of the net.  Scott’s week wrapped up Saturday with a 26-save performance to blank the Brandon Wheat Kings by a 6-0 score for his league leading fourth shutout of the season.

A 19-year-old from Calgary, Alta., Scott is playing in his fourth career season with the Raiders who chose him ninth overall in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft.  This season he’s leading the league in all major statistical categories including 17 wins with a goals-against-average of 1.39 and save percentage of .950.  Scott recently competed in the CIBC Canada Russia Series where he represented Team WHL between-the-pipes in Game 1 in Kamloops where he made 27 saves in a 2-1 triumph.

Also considered for the award this week was 2019 NHL Draft prospect Colten Ellis of the Rimouski Oceanic who posted a 2-0-0-0 record including one shutout victory making a total of 49 saves for a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .980.  In the OHL, Los Angeles Kings prospect Jacob Ingham of the Mississauga Steelheads went 3-0-0-0 turning aside 75 shots with a goals-against-average of 1.67 and save percentage of .938.
