Toronto, Ont.  – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Washington Capitals prospect Connor McMichael of the London Knights is the OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week for the week of regular season action ending September 29 with five goals, two assists and seven points over two games with a plus/minus rating of plus-3.

HIGHLIGHTS: McMichael scores twice in win over Otters
HIGHLIGHTS: McMichael’s five point night fuels Knights

McMichael recorded a pair of multi-point performances as the Knights recovered from a slow start to win both of their weekend matchups. The 6-foot, 181Ib. centre produced a two-goal effort on Friday as the Knights scored their first victory of the season in a 6-2 triumph over the visiting Erie Otters. McMichael recorded five shots on goal in the game and went 10-for-14 in the faceoff circle, book-ending London’s scoring with goals in the first and third periods. He proceeded to register a career-high five points in Saturday’s 7-3 road win over his former club, the Hamilton Bulldogs. McMichael recorded his second career OHL hat-trick along with two assists, capping his trio with a shorthanded goal beyond the midway point of the third period.

An 18-year-old from Ajax, Ont., McMichael receives Player of the Week honours for the first time in his OHL career. The first round (25th overall) pick of the Washington Capitals in this past summer’s NHL Draft currently leads the league with seven goals to go with 10 points through four contests. He put up 72 points (36-36–72) over 67 games with the Knights last season and was originally a first round (11th overall) pick of the Hamilton Bulldogs in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection from the Ajax-Pickering Raiders Minor Midgets.

Also considered for the award this week was Saginaw Spirit 19-year-old defenceman Ilya Solovyov. The first-year blueliner from Belarus recorded an impressive five points (1-4–5) in Friday’s 9-3 road win over the Sarnia Sting, finishing the weekend with eight points (1-7–8) over three contests as the Spirit went 2-1. Owen Sound Attack winger Sergey Popov also received consideration, recording six points (1-5–6) in a 10-0 win over the Barrie Colts on Thursday before finishing the weekend with seven points (1-6–7) as the Bears went 2-1.
