CHL Top-10 Rankings presented by Delta Hotels by Marriott: London remains No. 1, while Tri-City & Saskatoon climb up the rankings

TORONTO, ON — Today, the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced the Week 10 edition of its CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2024-25 season.

Riding a CHL-best 18-game winning streak, the longest of any club this season, the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) continue to hold first place. Sitting second is the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), who rank first in the QMJHL thanks to six straight wins. Behind them in third place are the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL, who are one of just four teams in the CHL to have topped 20 wins during the 2024-25 campaign thus far.

Among some of the notable changes to this week’s rankings was the rise of two Western Hockey League (WHL) clubs – the Tri-City Americans and the Saskatoon Blades. Winners in 17 of their last 20 contests, the Americans find themselves in ninth, while the Blades are back in the Top-10 rankings for the first time since October 29 thanks to their current three-game winning streak.

The next rankings will be released the week of December 10, following the 11th week of regular season action in all three member leagues of the CHL.

MONTGOMERY AND MEDVEDEV NAMED OHL TOP PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK

Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League today announced Top Performers of the Week for the week of regular season games ending Sunday, December 1, 2024.



Knights’ Blake Montgomery Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Ottawa Senators prospect Blake Montgomery of the London Knights is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, registering four goals, four assists and eight points over three games played.

Montgomery played a key role in extending the Knights’ current winning streak to 18 games last week, tallying a goal and an assist to earn third-star honors in Thursday’s 6-0 win against the Peterborough Petes. On Friday, he added two goals and an assist to secure first-star honors in a 5-4 shootout victory over the Kingston Frontenacs. Montgomery closed out the week with a goal and two assists in Sunday’s dominant 10-3 road win against the Ottawa 67’s.

A 19-year-old from Bowie, Maryland., Montgomery has recorded 10 points (5-5-10) over 10 games played this season. Montgomery was selected by London in the ninth round (176th overall) of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, the 6-foot-4, 195Ib. left-winger began the 2024-25 season with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. He was Ottawa’s fourth round (117th overall) pick last summer.

Also given consideration for the award this week, Washington Capitals prospect Ilya Protas of the Windsor Spitfires registered eight points (3-5-8) in three contests. Colorado Avalanche prospect Calum Ritchie of the Oshawa Generals was also a standout, tallying seven assists over a pair of matchups.

Knights’ Aleksei Medvedev Named OHL Goaltender & Rookie of the Week

London Knights goaltender Aleksei Medvedev is the OHL Rookie and Goaltender of the Week, playing to a 2-0 record including a shutout, along with a 1.50 goals-against average and .958 save percentage.

Registering his first career OHL shutout, Medvedev stopped all 31 shots that came his way on Thursday as the Knights blanked the Peterborough Petes 6-0. Medvedev returned between the pipes on Sunday, blocking 37 of the 40 shots he faced in a 10-3 road win over the Ottawa 67’s.

The 17-year-old from St. Petersburg, Russia, has appeared in 15 games with the Knights this season, posting a 11-2-0-0 record, along with a 2.64 goals-against average, and .918 save percentage. The 6-foot-1, 164Ib. netminder was selected by London in the second round (38th overall) of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. Medvedev was recently listed as a C-rated prospect on NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Players to Watch list for the 2025 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the Rookie of the Week award, Niagara IceDogs forward Braidy Wassilyn contributed a goal and three assists in three contests, while Dimian Zhilkin of the Saginaw Spirit registered a goal and two assists in three games played.

OHL Writers Draft Eligible Player of the Month: November

Each Ontario Hockey League season, we make our selections for forward of the month, defenceman of the month and goaltender of the month among the league’s players eligible for the NHL Entry Draft. Now that the month of November is behind us, let’s take a look at our choices.

Forward of the Month: Michael Misa – Saginaw Spirit

Misa takes this in consecutive months after posting 7 goals and 15 assists in just 12 games in the month of November. He was held pointless just once on November third against the Kitchener Rangers. He recorded a Gordie Howe Hattrick on November 30 against Brampton. He also finished the month a plus-12. Surprisingly, he did not register a game winning goal and only one of his goals came on the powerplay and that came on November 2 against Owen Sound.

Also considered was Porter Martone of the Brampton Steelheads. Martone finished with 6 goals and 16 assists in 12 games and was held off the score sheet just twice. He finished the month with an even plus/minus. Jake O’Brien of the Brantford Bulldogs was also considered. O’Brien had 7 goals and 15 assists in November. He was held off the scoresheet in 4 games and was a minus-5 in the month of November.

Defenceman of the Month: Matthew Schaefer – Erie Otters

Schaefer appeared in 11 games during the Month of November and scored 5 goals and added 10 assists. He was held off the score sheet 3 times and finished the month with a plus-16. He was a minus player just twice with the first being November 8 against the Guelph Storm and the other November 23 against the Kitchener Rangers. He had a whopping 41 shots on goal in those 11 games.

There wasn’t much considered after Schaefer. James Guo of the Saginaw Spirit had 2 goals and 8 assists in 12 games while Jack Brauti of the Niagara IceDogs has 2 goals and 7 assists in 11 games.

Goaltender of the Month: Aleksei Medvedev – London Knights

Medvedev went a perfect 6-0-0-0 in the month of November stopping 174 of 186 shots for a .935 save percentage with 1 shutout. His goals against average in those 6 games was a measly 1.98.

Also considered was Ben Hrebik of the Barrie Colts. Hrebik went 3-1-0-0 in 5 appearances for the Colts. He stopped 124 of 131 shots for a .947 save percentage. Two of his appearances were in relief.

OHL’s Draft Eligible Statistical Leaders: November

Another month of the Ontario Hockey League season has come and gone, so it’s time we look at the statistical leaders among players eligible for the 2025 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

If anything, November just reinforces the fact that this is a two-horse race between Michael Misa of the Saginaw Spirit and Porter Martone of the Brampton Steelheads. Of course, Matthew Schaefer of the Erie Otters is drawing a lot of attention and he sits third among defencemen in scoring and has played 11 fewer games.

As always, we take great care in compiling stats, but always refer to the OHL website for official stats.

TORONTO, ON — Today, the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced the Week 8 edition of its CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2024-25 season.

Currently riding an 11-game winning streak, the longest active streak in the CHL, the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) moved into the top spot for the first time this season. Slipping down a place into second was the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), who are one of just three teams across the CHL with 16 victories on the year. Meanwhile, speaking of 16-win teams, the reigning QMJHL champion Drummondville Voltigeurs continue to round out the top three in third.

Among the notable changes to this week’s rankings include the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL making their CHL Top-10 debut of the 2024-25 season in ninth. Having gone undefeated over the last seven days, the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League (WHL), the Rimouski Océanic of the QMJHL, and the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL were among the six clubs who climbed up the rankings this week.

The next rankings will be released the week of November 25, following the ninth week of regular season action in all three member leagues of the CHL.

WILLIS, GEORGE AND EDWARDS NAMED OHL TOP PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK

Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League today announced Top Performers of the Week for the week of regular season games ending Sunday, November 17, 2024.



Spirit’s Joey Willis Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Nashville Predators prospect Joey Willis of the Saginaw is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, registering nine goals, two assists and 11 points over three games played.

Willis opened the week with a Spirit single game record-setting five-goal performance on Wednesday, netting five straight markers to lead the Spirit to a 7-5 comeback win over the Flint Firebirds. He added a goal and an assist on Friday in a 7-5 loss to the Erie Otters. Willis capped off the week with a hat-trick and an assist on Saturday, claiming first star honours in a dominant 9-3 victory over the Sarnia Sting.

A 19-year-old from Elmhurst, IL., Willis has recorded 23 points (12-11-23) over 18 games played this season. Selected by Saginaw in the fourth round (79th overall) of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, the 5-foot-11, 185Ib. centreman has recorded 117 points (41-76–117) over 152 career regular season contests. He put up 11 points (4-7–11) over 17 games in last year’s playoffs before the 2024 host Spirit were crowned Memorial Cup champions. Willis was selected by the Nashville Predators in the fourth round, 111th overall of the 2023 NHL Draft.

Also given consideration for the award this week, San Jose Sharks prospect Quentin Musty registered nine points (3-6-9) in two games played. Chicago Blackhawks prospect Nick Lardis of the Brantford Bulldogs was also a standout, tallying six goals, three assists and nine points in three contests, delivering back-to-back hat-tricks.

Attack’s Carter George Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Los Angeles Kings prospect Carter George of the Owen Sound Attack is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, scoring a goal while going 1-1-0-0 with a 2.46 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage.

Turning aside an impressive 81 shots last week, George stopped 36 of the 37 shots that came his way on Thursday in a 4-1 victory over the Peterborough Petes. George made history in the matchup, scoring an empty-net goal to become the 11th netminder in OHL history to find the back of the net and the first to do so for the Owen Sound Attack. He provided relief on Friday, stopping 25 shots in a 7-1 loss to the Kingston Frontenacs. The 6-foot-1, 190lb. netminder returned between the pipes on Sunday, making 20 saves on 24 shots in a hard-fought 4-3 loss to the Ottawa 67’s.

An 18-year-old from Thunder Bay, Ont, George holds a 4-8-2-2 record this season with a 3.25 goals-against average and .907 save percentage over 17 games. Drafted in the third round (53rd overall) by Owen Sound in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection, George is in his third OHL season, with a career record of 34-32-8-5, a 3.19 goals-against average, .909 save percentage, and four shutouts in 83 regular season games played. Selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (57th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft, George earned recognition as the OHL’s Top Academic High School Player and Scholastic Player of the Year in 2023-24. He was also voted to the League’s Third All-Star Team and the First All-Rookie Team. On the international stage, he claimed gold with Team Canada at both the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the Under-18 World Championship last season.

Also considered for the award this week, Kitchener Rangers netminder Jackson Parsons continued to shine, playing to a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout, along with a 0.50 goals-against average and .977 save percentage.

Sting’s Beckham Edwards Named OHL Rookie of the Week

Sarnia Sting forward Beckham Edwards is the OHL Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, recording three goals over three contests.

Edwards kicked off the week with a goal in Friday’s 5-3 loss to the London Knights. The 6-foot-1, 170lb. centreman added two more on Saturday in a 9-3 defeat to the Saginaw Spirit, giving him a league-leading total among rookies of nine goals.

Selected in the third round (46th overall) by the Sting in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection from the Detroit Little Caesars U15 AAA program, Edwards sits tied for first among all OHL rookies in points this season, registering 14 (9-5-14) in 17 games played.

Also considered for the award this week, Niagara IceDogs forward Braidy Wassilyn contributed four assists in two contests, while Rowan Henderson of the Sudbury Wolves tallied a pair of goals and a helper in two games played.

TORONTO, ON — Today, the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced the Week 7 edition of its CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2024-25 season.

Having extended their point streak to eight games (7-0-1-0) with a pair of victories last week, the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) are in the No. 1 spot for a fifth week in a row. Riding a nine-game winning streak, the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) are up to second in this week’s rankings, while the reigning QMJHL champion Drummondville Voltigeurs are down one spot in third.

Among the biggest movers and shakers of the week were a pair of clubs from the Western Hockey League (WHL) – the Prince George Cougars and the Tri-City Americans. Having collected a point in seven consecutive contests (5-0-1-1), the Cougars are back in the top five for the first time since October 22. Meanwhile, currently on the longest winning streak in the CHL this season at 12 victories in a row, the Americans are making their CHL Top-10 debut this season in eighth.

DICKINSON, OKE AND STEVENS NAMED OHL TOP PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK

Knights’ Sam Dickinson Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

San Jose Sharks prospect Sam Dickinson of the London Knights is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks, registering four goals, four assists and eight points over three games played.

Dickinson kicked off the week with a goal and an assist, earning first star honours in Wednesday’s 5-1 win over the Soo Greyhounds. He continued his strong play on Friday, scoring a hat trick and again claiming first star honours in a 6-2 victory against the North Bay Battalion. Dickinson rounded out the week with three assists on Saturday, contributing to a thrilling 8-7 road win over the Guelph Storm.

An 18-year-old from Toronto, Dickinson leads the Knights in scoring, and ranks first among all OHL blueliners in goals and points with 25 (11-14–25) over 15 games. Formerly a fourth overall pick by the Niagara IceDogs in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection, the 6-foot-3, 200Ib. left-shot blueliner has recorded 118 points (38-80–118) over 145 career regular season contests in London. He put up 13 points (4-9–13) over 18 games in last year’s playoffs as the Knights were crowned OHL champions. Dickinson was selected by the San Jose Sharks with the 11th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Also given consideration for the award this week, 2025 NHL Draft-eligible prospect Michael Misa registered four goals and three assists (4-3-7) as the Saginaw Spirit earned four points last week. Philadelphia Flyers prospect Jett Luchanko of the Guelph Storm was also a standout, tallying seven points (2-5-7) in three games played.

Spirit’s Andrew Oke Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Andrew Oke of the Saginaw Spirit is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, going 2-0-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average, and a .957 save percentage.

Oke stopped 67 shots last week, helping the Spirit secure four of a possible six points. Oke made 34 saves in Saturday’s 5-1 win over the Windsor Spitfires, earning second star honours to record his 60th career victory and pass Tristan Lennox as the fifth-winningest goaltender in Spirit history. He returned to the net Sunday afternoon, stopping 33 of 35 shots in a 7-2 victory against the Flint Firebirds.

A 20-year-old from Shelby Township, MI., Oke holds a 9-6-1-0 record this season with a 3.20 goals-against average and .898 save percentage over 16 games. His 955 minutes played currently lead the OHL. Drafted in the fifth round (89th overall) by Saginaw in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, the 6-foot-2, 190lb. netminder is in his fourth OHL season, with a career record of 61-42-4-0, a 3.57 goals-against average, .879 save percentage, and two shutouts in 117 regular season games played. A 2024 Memorial Cup champion with the Spirit, Oke boasts a 5-0-0-0 playoff record, with a 1.83 goals-against average, .938 save percentage, and a shutout. He attended Boston Bruins training camp as a free-agent invite this past summer.

Also considered for the award this week, Erie Otters netminder Noah Erliden went 2-1-0-0 with a 2.28 goals-against average and .923 save percentage including a shutout, while Zach Bowen helped the Peterborough Petes earn their first win of the season, playing to a 1-1-0-1 record along with a 2.28 goals-against average and .926 save percentage.

Storm’s Carter Stevens Named OHL Rookie of the Week

Guelph Storm forward Carter Stevens is the OHL Rookie of the Week, recording a goal and three assists over three contests.

Stevens opened up the week with an assist on Wednesday night, contributing to the Storm’s 4-1 road win over the Brantford Bulldogs. He was back on the scoresheet Friday, scoring a goal in a 7-4 victory over the Erie Otters. Stevens wrapped up the week with a two-point performance on Sunday, adding two assists in an 8-7 loss to the London Knights.

A 16-year-old from Almonte, Ont., Stevens has recorded nine points (3-6–9) through his first 16 games of the season. The 6-foot-1, 184Ib. centreman was selected by Guelph in the second round, 35th overall of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection from the Ottawa Valley Titans U16 AAA program.

Also considered for the award this week, Noah Read helped the London Knights earn six points, registered two goals and an assist. Storm teammate Danill Skvortsov was also a standout, tallying a goal and two assists last week.

CHL Top-10 Rankings: Moncton holds firm at No. 1, while Kitchener & Chicoutimi enter the rankings

TORONTO, ON — Today, the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced the Week 6 edition of its CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2024-25 season.

Riding a six-game point streak (5-0-1-0), the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) maintained their place atop the CHL Top-10 Rankings for the fourth consecutive week. As one of just three clubs with a CHL-best 13 wins this season, the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL are up a spot to No. 2, while the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) slipped down a place to find themselves in third this week.

Among the biggest changes to this week’s rankings were the rise of the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL and the Chicoutimi Saguenéens of the QMJHL. The Rangers, who are currently in the midst of the longest point streak in the CHL at 14 games (12-0-1-1), are making their Top-10 debut of the 2024-25 campaign in seventh. Meanwhile, riding a six-game winning streak, the Saguenéens are also making their first appearance of the season in these rankings at No. 10.

The next rankings will be released the week of November 11, following the seventh week of regular season action in all three member leagues of the CHL.

CHL Team of the Month presented by CCM: September/October 2024

TORONTO, ON — The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced today the September/October edition of the CHL Team of the Month presented by CCM for the 2024-25 regular season, which considered the small number of games played in September to begin this latest campaign.

F – Michael Misa (Saginaw Spirit / OHL)
17G-9A, 26 PTS, +8 in 13 GP in September/October

No player in the CHL scored more goals during September and October than 2025 NHL Draft prospect Michael Misa of the Saginaw Spirit. With 17 goals, including five contests with two or more, the 2024 Memorial Cup champion wrapped up the month of October by finding twine in five straight games. Misa impressively only failed to score a goal in two of his first 13 games, and he recorded his first career OHL hat-trick as part of a four-point effort on September 27 against the Soo Greyhounds. The 17-year-old from Oakville, Ont., also began his 2024-25 season by collecting a point in 13 consecutive contests, which included registering eight multi-point outings. Misa’s 26 points were just one point shy of the CHL lead and the most by any prospect in the CHL eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft. In addition to his scoring prowess over the first couple of months, Misa finished the month of October ranked fifth in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for faceoff winning percentage (53.0%) and second in that same league for shots on goal (68). Earlier last month, Misa was also one of 22 players who were named to the CHL’s roster for the 2024 CHL USA Prospects Challenge presented by Kubota Canada, which is a new two-game series scheduled to take place from November 26-27 in London and Oshawa, Ontario.

F – Mathieu Cataford (Rimouski Océanic / QMJHL)
8G-17A, 25 PTS, +14 in 12 GP in September/October

Holding one of the highest point-per-game averages in the CHL, Mathieu Cataford of the No.6-ranked and 2025 Memorial Cup host Rimouski Océanic had an impressive start to his 2024-25 season in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Playing in just 12 games over the last couple of months, Cataford rose up the scoring ranks in the QMJHL and finished October as that league’s co-leading scorer with 25 points. The reigning QMJHL MVP registered nine multi-point outings over those 12 games, including four contests with three points or more. The 19-year-old from Saint-Constant, Que., was held off the scoresheet only once and he failed to score in just five games over September and October. A 2023-24 CHL Third Team All-Star selection, Cataford’s 17 assists ranked second in the QMJHL, trailing only Drummondville’s Luke Woodworth who tallied 20 helpers. Cataford also held a +14 plus/minus rating by the end of October, which was tied for the third-best mark in the QMJHL at that time.

F – Gavin McKenna (Medicine Hat Tigers / WHL)
7G-16A, 23 PTS, +8 in 14 GP in September/October

2026 NHL Draft prospect Gavin McKenna of the Medicine Hat Tigers got his 2024-25 campaign off to a strong start by leading the Western Hockey League (WHL) in scoring with 23 points in 14 games over September and October. The 16-year-old from Whitehorse, Yukon, also co-led the WHL with 16 assists. Over his 14 appearances through the first couple of months, McKenna was held over the scoresheet on just two occasions. He capped off October on a five-game point streak, having accrued 10 points (5G-5A) over that stretch. A 2023-24 CHL Third Team All-Star and All-Rookie Team selection, McKenna registered eight multi-point outings including three games with three points. The Tigers forward also co-led the CHL with 74 shots on goal through his first 14 games of the season.

D – Luca Marrelli (Oshawa Generals / OHL)
8G-10A, 18 PTS, +13 in 14 GP in September/October

Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Luca Marrelli of the Oshawa Generals has been one of the most productive defencemen in the CHL to begin the 2024-25 season. The 19-year-old from Toronto, Ont., scored eight goals through September and October, which were tied for the most by any defenceman in the CHL. Meanwhile, Marrelli’s 18 points over the first two months were the most of any blueliner in the OHL and ranked in a tie for second among that same group in the CHL. His 18 points were also good enough to place him among the OHL’s top-10 leading scorers. The Generals defenceman managed the latter by registering six multi-point outings, including three straight to close out the month of October. Marrelli was just one of three defencemen in the OHL to register two game-winning goals through the first two months of the season. Additionally, his +13 plus/minus rating in September and October ranked among the top five in the OHL.

D – Tarin Smith (Everett Silvertips / WHL)
3G-15A, 18 PTS, +16, in 13 GP in September/October

Anaheim Ducks prospect Tarin Smith of the No.4-ranked Everett Silvertips played an important part in the success of the Silvertips, who led the CHL in wins (12) and point percentage (.857) at the end of October. Held off the scoresheet only twice in his first 13 games, the 18-year-old from Porcupine Plain, Sask., led all WHL defencemen with 18 points, which placed him a tie for second among that same group in the CHL. A 2023-24 CHL All-Rookie Team selection, Smith’s 15 assists were also tied for the most of any blueliner in the WHL, while also standing one helper short of the CHL lead among defencemen. Smith began his 2024-25 campaign in the WHL by recording a single-game career-high of four points (1G-3A) against the Portland Winterhawks on September 28. The latter marked one of five multi-point contests that Smith registered over the first two months of the season. 

G – Riley Mercer (Drummondville Voltigeurs / QMJHL)
9-2-0-0 record, 1.91 GAA, .945 SV%, 1 SO over 11 GP in September/October

With nine wins in 11 starts, Riley Mercer of the No.3-ranked Drummondville Voltigeurs has been a big part of why Drummondville found themselves on top of the QMJHL standings as the calendar turned over to November. The 2024 QMJHL Champion registered a .945 save percentage, which was the best of any goalie in the CHL. Mercer’s 1.91 goals-against average was the best of any netminder in the QMJHL and ranked third in the CHL through September and October. The 20-year-old from Bay Roberts, Nfld., registered an impressive eight performances with 30-plus saves through his first 11 starts, winning seven of those contests. The latter included Mercer turning aside all 35 shots he faced against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on October 12 for his first shutout of the season. The nine wins that Mercer recorded through September and October were tied for the most of any netminder in the CHL. Over his 11 starts, Mercer also totaled 362 saves, which ranked fourth among netminders across the CHL.
