Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League today announced Top Performers of the Week for the week of regular season games ending Sunday, October 22, 2023.



Battalion’s Anthony Romani Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

North Bay Battalion forward Anthony Romani is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, scoring five goals while adding an assist while registering a plus-7 rating in a pair of games.

Romani scored a pair of goals and added an assist on Thursday, being named the game’s second star as the Battalion came up just short against the visiting Mississauga Steelheads in a 7-6 final. He earned first star honours on Sunday, scoring his first career OHL hat trick as the Troops defeated the Flint Firebirds 6-4 at the Gardens.

An 18-year-old from Pickering, Ont., Romani is off to a strong start to his third OHL season, recording 15 points (8-7–15) through 10 outings as the Battalion own a record of 5-3-1-1. The 6-foot-1, 184Ib. right-winger was North Bay’s third round (41st overall) pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens U16 program. In 130 regular season games, Romani has put up 39 goals, 33 assists and 72 points. He’s reached the Eastern Conference Championship Series with the Battalion in each of the past two years, recording 12 points (9-3–12) across 33 playoff games. Romani attended rookie camp with the Carolina Hurricanes last month.

Also considered for the award this week, North Bay Battalion teammate Dalyn Wakely recorded seven points (2-5–7) in two games. Mississauga Steelheads winger Porter Martone was also a standout, putting up seven points (4-3–7) over three outings. Kitchener Rangers defenceman Hunter Brzustewicz climbed to the top of OHL scoring with seven points (1-6–7) in three games last week.

Storm’s Brayden Gillespie Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Brayden Gillespie of the Guelph Storm is the OHL Goaltender of the Week following a pair of wins where he posted a 1.50 goals-against average and .929 save percentage.

Gillespie continued his excellent start to the season, backstopping the Storm to a 3-1 win over the Barrie Colts on Friday with a 20-save performance. He returned to the crease on Saturday, making 19 saves as the Storm defeated the Kingston Frontenacs 6-2.

An 18-year-old from Oakville, Ont., Gillespie leads the OHL with a 1.88 goals-against average to go with a 5-2-0-0 record, .933 save percentage and one shutout through seven games this season. The 5-foot-11, 155Ib. netminder was the Storm’s 11th round (207th overall) pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection from the North York Rangers U16 program. Gillespie split the 2022-23 season between the Storm and the Ayr Centennials of the GOJHL. He owns a career regular season mark of 18-8-2-1 with a 3.06 goals-against average, .891 save percentage and two shutouts in 32 contests.

Also considered for the award this week, Charlie Schenkel of the Soo Greyhounds went 1-1 with a 1.51 goals-against average and .945 save percentage, recording a 31-save shutout on Thursday in Peterborough. Brantford Bulldogs rookie David Egorov played to a 1-0 mark across two appearances, posting a 0.70 goals-against average and .980 save percentage.

Rangers’ Carson Rehkopf Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Seattle Kraken prospect Carson Rehkopf of the Kitchener Rangers is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording five goals, three assists, and eight points over two contests as the Rangers collected four points over the weekend.

Rehkopf had a strong start on Friday, registering a hat trick and an assist to earn first star honours as the Rangers blanked the visiting Barrie Colts 8-0. The 6-foot-1, 196lb. centreman found the scoresheet again on Sunday, tallying a pair of goals and assists as Kitchener defeated the Windsor Spitfires in a high-scoring 11-2 victory to close out the weekend.

An 18-year-old from Vaughan, Ont., Rehkopf ranks third among OHL point-producers, recording seven goals, six assists, and 13 points over seven games played this season. Seattle’s second round (50th overall) pick in the 2023 NHL Draft has recorded 105 points (55-50–105) in 140 career OHL regular season games with the Rangers after being chosen 17th overall by the club in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection.

Also considered for the award this week, draft-eligible forward Luke Misa of the Mississauga Steelheads scored three times and added five assists in three wins. Rehkopf’s Rangers teammate Matthew Sop was also productive, contributing a total of three goals and four helpers to Kitchener’s perfect weekend.

67’s’ Collin MacKenzie Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Ottawa 67’s goaltender Collin MacKenzie is the OHL Goaltender of the Week. He played to a 2-0 record with a 1.50 goals-against average, and .948 save percentage as the 67’s played their way to the top of the OHL Power Rankings.

Stopping a total of 55 shots last week, MacKenzie turned aside 23 of the 25 attempts that came his way on Thursday as Ottawa defeated the North Bay Battalion 4-2. The 6-foot, 175lb. netminder was back in the crease on Friday, stopping 32 of the 33 shots he faced to earn first star honours as the 67’s built on their perfect weekend with a 2-1 win over the Soo Greyhounds.

An 18-year-old from Elora, Ont., MacKenzie joined teammate Max Donoso in receiving the 2023-24 Dave Pinkney Trophy presented to the goaltenders of the team that surrenders the fewest goals-against during the regular season. MacKenzie owns a career OHL regular season mark of 27-3-3-0, posting a 2.25 goals-against average and .914 save percentage over 41 games. He was Ottawa’s eighth round (160th overall) pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection from the Waterloo Wolves U16 program.

Also in the running for the award this week, Carter George of the Owen Sound Attack played to a 1-1-1-0 record, with a 1.68 goals-against average, and .944 save percentage along with his first OHL shutout. Winnipeg Jets prospect and returning OHL Goaltender of the Year Dom DiVincentiis of the North Bay Battalion played to a 2-1-0-0 mark with a 2.01 goals-against average and .926 save percentage.

Greyhounds’ Jordan D’Intino Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Soo Greyhounds overage forward Jordan D’Intino is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, leading the League with seven points, including four goals and three assists over three contests.

D’Intino helped the Greyhounds climb to the top of the Western Conference standings, recording his first career OHL hat trick in the process. After being held off the scoresheet in Wednesday’s 3-2 shootout win over the London Knights, D’Intino put together a goal and an assist in a 7-4 road loss to the Sarnia Sting on Friday. He had a career night in Flint on Saturday, scoring three times while adding a pair of assists for first star recognition as the Hounds improved to 4-1 to start the season.

A 20-year-old from Delaware, Ont., D’Intino sits tied for second in OHL scoring with eight points (5-3–8) through five games. The 6-foot-1, 190Ib. left-winger is in his third season with the Greyhounds, producing 36 goals, 28 assists and 64 points through 128 career regular season games. The Greyhounds selected D’Intino in the fourth round (80th overall) of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection from the London Jr. Knights U16 program.

Also considered for the award this week, Sarnia Sting forward Marko Sikic also produced his first career hat trick, finishing with six points (4-2–6) in three games. Owen Sound Attack forward Deni Goure was also productive, putting up five points (3-2–5) in a pair of outings.

Steelheads’ Ryerson Leenders Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Draft eligible Mississauga Steelheads goaltender Ryerson Leenders is the OHL Goaltender of the Week for a second straight week. He played to a 2-0 record with a 0.50 goals-against average, .981 save percentage and one shutout as the Steelheads climbed to the top of the Eastern Conference standings last week.

After earning top honours last week, Leenders returned to the crease on Thursday in Niagara, stopping all 29 shots he faced for his second shutout of the young season as the Steelheads beat the IceDogs 2-0. He got the start on Sunday at home against Brantford, turning aside 24-of-25 shots in a 6-1 win over the Bulldogs.

A 17-year-old from Nanticoke, Ont., Leenders leads the league through two weeks of action, going 4-0 with a 1.00 goals-against-average and .967 save percentage. The 6-foot-1, 176Ib. sophomore played to a mark of 12-15-3-0 with a 3.48 goals-against average and .879 save percentage over 35 games as a rookie in Mississauga last year. Leenders was the first goaltender selected in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection, being taken by the Steelheads in the second round (32nd overall) out of the Toronto Nationals U16 program. He won a gold medal with Canada’s men’s national under-18 team this past summer at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Czechia and Slovakia.

Also considered for the award this week, Brayden Gillespie of the Guelph Storm went 1-1 with a shutout and .951 save percentage over two outings. Carolina Hurricanes prospect Jakub Vondras of the Sudbury Wolves earned his first OHL shutout, going 1-1 with a 2.50 goals-against average and .921 save percentage.

Petes’ Jax Dubois Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Jax Dubois of the Peterborough Petes is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording two goals along with five assists for seven points over two games played.

Dubois led the 2023 OHL champions to a strong start in their title defence, recording one goal and two assists in Peterborough’s home-opener as they defeated the Kingston Frontenacs 5-4 on Thursday. The 6-foot-4, 205lb. forward was productive once again with a four-point night on Friday, recording one goal and three assists in a 5-2 win over the Ottawa 67’s. Dubois was also steady in the faceoff circle, going 56 percent. His seven points place him atop the OHL’s list of top scorers entering the second week of the season.

An overage centreman from Ottawa, Ont., Dubois was selected in the 14th round (273rd overall) by the Petes in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection, recording 21 goals, 39 assists and 60 points over 119 OHL regular season games.

Also considered for the award this week, newly-acquired Soo Greyhounds forward Jack Beck made a strong first impression with six points (2-4–6) in a pair of victories. Luke Misa helped guide the Mississauga Steelheads to a pair of victories, putting up five points (2-3–5) in back-to-back wins over the Erie Otters.

Steelheads’ Ryerson Leenders Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Ryerson Leenders of the Mississauga Steelheads is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, going 2-0 with a shutout, a 1.50 goals-against average and .957 save percentage.

Stopping 66 of the 69 shots he faced, Leenders defended the crease in a pair of victories against the Erie Otters last week. He turned aside all 34 shots that came his way on Friday, earning his first career OHL shutout along with first star honours as Mississauga defeated the Otters 5-0 at home. The 6-foot-1, 176lb. netminder was back in the crease on Saturday, blocking 32 of the 35 shots he faced as the Steelheads closed out the weekend with a 5-3 victory.

Newly-acquired London Knights netminder Michael Simpson also merits consideration after going 2-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and .950 save percentage in his first week in green and gold.

Colts’ Evan Vierling Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Barrie Colts forward Evan Vierling is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording seven assists in three games.

Vierling played a big part in Barrie’s Game 6 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs on Monday night, recording four assists in the 5-4 road win. He picked up a primary assist on Ethan Cardwell’s series-clincher, a goal that came with just 10 seconds remaining in the third period, marking the final OHL game at Hamilton’s FirstOntario Centre for at least three seasons. Vierling was back producing to open Barrie’s second round matchup against the North Bay Battalion on Friday, picking up two assists in a 3-2 overtime win. He had the primary assist on Josh Kavanagh’s deciding goal. Vierling left Sunday’s Game 2 against North Bay with an injury, but managed to pick-up an assist in the 5-2 loss.

A 20-year-old overage forward from Aurora, Ont., Vierling led the Colts with 95 points including 35 goals and 60 assists over 60 games this past season. He finished tied for the team lead with 10 power play goals, had a plus-18 rating and seven game-winners in his fourth OHL season, wrapping-up his career with 213 points (75-138–213) over 218 regular season games. Vierling has 13 points (1-12–13) through seven playoff outings. A former first round (2nd overall) pick of the Flint Firebirds in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection, Vierling attended training camp with the Columbus Blue Jackets last October.

Also considered for the award this week, Barrie Colts teammate Ethan Cardwell, a recent signing by the San Jose Sharks, recording three goals, three assists and six points in three games last week. London Knights centreman Sean McGurn was also productive with six points (2-4–6) in three games.

Sting’s Ben Gaudreau Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

San Jose Sharks prospect Ben Gaudreau of the Sarnia Sting is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, playing to a mark of 2-0 with a 0.47 goals-against average, .983 save percentage and one shutout.

Gaudreau helped the Sting take a 2-0 series lead over the Saginaw Spirit in their Western Conference Semi-Final series. Gaudreau’s week started with a 26-save shutout against Saginaw in Game 1, earning first star honours as the Sting prevailed by a score of 3-0 on home ice. The shutout set a new Sting franchise mark, making him the first Sarnia netminder to ever record two playoff shutouts. Gaudreau turned-in another first star showing in Game 2 on Sunday, turning aside 33 shots as the Sting outlasted the Spirit 2-1 in overtime.

A 20-year-old native of Corbeil, Ont., Gaudreau went 24-12-3-3 with a 3.07 goals-against average and .889 save percentage over 44 games in his third OHL season. The 6-foot-2, 172Ib. puck stopper owns a career mark of 53-43-8-5 with a 3.60 goals-against average, .890 save percentage and three shutouts over 116 regular season games since being selected in the first round (7th overall) by the Sting in 2019. So far in these playoffs, Gaudreau is 6-1 with a 2.24 goals-against average and .909 save percentage. Gaudreau, who won gold with Canada’s National Junior Team this past January, was selected by San Jose in the third round (81st overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the award this week, Michael Simpson of the Peterborough Petes went 1-1 with a 2.01 goals-against average and .934 save percentage as the Petes drew even with the Ottawa 67’s in their second round series. Gaudreau’s series counterpart Tristan Lennox of the Saginaw Spirit was also solid, going 1-2 with a 2.26 goals-against average and .925 save percentage over three games.

Spirit’s Matyas Sapovaliv Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Vegas Golden Knights prospect Matyas Sapovaliv of the Saginaw Spirit is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording three goals, three assists and six points in a pair of playoff contests.

Helping the Spirit take a 2-0 first round series lead over the in-state rival Flint Firebirds, Sapovaliv started the week with a trio of assists in a 7-1 Game 1 victory on Thursday night. He proceeded to pick-up first star honours on Friday, scoring a hat trick as the Spirit defeated the Firebirds 4-1 at the Dow Event Center.

A 19-year-old centreman from Kladno, Czechia, Sapovaliv led the Spirit with 27 goals, along with 29 assists and 56 points over 61 games this past season. The 6-foot-3, 190Ib. pivot recorded 52 points (18-34–52) over 68 games as a first-year player last season. Sapovaliv was instrumental in Czechia’s silver medal finish at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, being named one of his country’s top-three players in the tournament with seven assists in as many contests. Originally Saginaw’s first round (15th overall) pick in the 2021 CHL Import Draft, Sapovaliv was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the second round (48th overall) of the NHL Draft last summer.

Also considered for the award this week, Kitchener Rangers captain Francesco Pinelli scored a pair of shorthanded goals and added three assists for five points in a pair of victories.

Rangers’ Marco Costantini Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Marco Costantini of the Kitchener Rangers is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, going 2-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average, .952 save percentage and a shutout in two outings last week.

Costantini helped the Rangers climb out to a 2-0 first round series lead against the Western Conference’s first place Windsor Spitfires. The overage netminder turned aside 29 of 32 shots on Thursday night as Kitchener opened the series with a 5-3 road win. He posted his fourth career OHL playoff shutout on Saturday, stopping all 31 shots he faced as the Rangers blanked the high-scoring Spitfires 4-0. It marked the first time the Spits have been shutout in a game since Mar. 24, 2019, a span of 225 contests.

A 20-year-old from Hamilton, Ont., Costantini was last year’s runner-up for the OHL Goaltender of the Year Award, backstopping the Hamilton Bulldogs to an OHL championship. He’s played to a 24-17-5-0 record with a 3.23 goals-against average and .900 save percentage with four shutouts over 47 games between Kitchener and Hamilton this season. He owns a career OHL record of 65-41-13-2 with a 3.18 goals-against average and .898 save percentage and 10 shutouts over 126 regular season games. Costantini attended rookie camp with the Toronto Maple Leafs in October.

Also considered for the award this week, Saginaw Spirit netminder Tristan Lennox went 2-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and .962 save percentage, guiding his team to a 2-0 lead in their first round playoff series. Michael Simpson of the Peterborough Petes also played to a 2-0 mark, posting a 1.50 goals-against average and .957 save percentage last week.

Colts’ Brandt Clarke Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Los Angeles Kings prospect Brandt Clarke of the Barrie Colts is the OHL Player of the Week, recording five goals, six assists and 11 points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-9.

Clarke started off his week with a pair of goals and assists on Wednesday, including the game-tying goal as the Colts fell to the Mississauga Steelheads 6-5 in a shootout. He found the scoresheet again on Friday, recording two helpers including one on Ethan Cardwell’s overtime winner as the Colts defeated the Owen Sound Attack 5-4. Clarke extended his current point streak to 15 games with a career-high five point night on Sunday, finishing with a hat trick, two assists and first star honours in a high-scoring 11-4 win over the Niagara IceDogs.

A 20-year-old from Nepean, Ont., Clarke leads the OHL with 1.97 points-per-game, recording 59 points (21-38–59) through 30 games since returning from winning gold with Canada at the World Juniors. Clarke has produced a franchise record 156 career points (38-118–156) by a Colts defenceman, doing so in 142 regular season games. Now in his third season with Barrie, Clarke was voted to the League’s second all-star team in 2021-22, recording 59 points (11-48–59) in 55 games. The blueliner was Barrie’s first round (4th overall) pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection from the Don Mills Flyers U16 program. He was a first round (8th overall) pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2021 NHL Draft, and signed a three-year entry level NHL contract with the club on Aug. 10, 2021. He played in nine games with Los Angeles earlier this season, recording two assists in the process.

Also considered for the award this week, Braeden Bowman of the Guelph Storm produced three goals, seven assists, 10 points and a shootout winner in three victories last week. Overage captain Mitchell Smith of the Saginaw Spirit contributed four goals, including his first career hat trick and an overtime winner, along with three assists for seven points in three games played.

Petes’ Liam Sztuska Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Liam Sztuska of the Peterborough Petes is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, posting a 2-0 record with a 1.86 goals-against average and .947 save percentage.

Stopping 72 of the 76 shots he faced, Sztuska defended the crease in a pair of victories for the Petes last week. He turned aside 43 of the 45 shots that came his way on Tuesday as Peterborough defeated the visiting Mississauga Steelheads 5-2. Sztuska subbed-in for Michael Simpson in the third period of a 3-2 loss in Sudbury on Friday, stopping all three shots he faced. The 6-foot, 181lb. netminder was back in the crease on Sunday, making 26 saves in a 5-2 win over the Niagara IceDogs.

An 18-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., Sztuska owns a record of 10-7-0-0 with a 2.98 goals-against average and .908 save percentage in 18 games this season. Sztuska was Peterborough’s fifth round (94th overall) pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection from the Toronto Titans U16 program.

Also in the running for the award this week, Andrew Oke of the Saginaw Spirit recorded a two-win week with a 2.92 goals-against average, and .920 save percentage. Charlie Schenkel of the Soo Greyhounds played to a 1-1 mark with a 2.58 goals-against average and .928 save percentage.

Bulldogs’ Sahil Panwar Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

For the second time this season, Sahil Panwar of the Hamilton Bulldogs is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording three goals, four assists and seven points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-4.

Helping guide the Bulldogs to a 3-0 showing last week, the overage forward got things started with an assist in a 4-3 road win over the Niagara IceDogs on Thursday. The Bulldogs returned home to host the IceDogs on Friday as Panwar recorded a goal and a pair of helpers in the 6-2 victory. The 6-foot, 185 lb. centreman closed out the weekend with two goals and an assist to earn first star honours as the Bulldogs defeated the Ottawa 67’s 6-3 on Sunday.

A 21-year-old native of Mississauga, Ont., Panwar currently has points in 12 of his last 13 games. He’s produced 18 goals, 28 assists and 46 points in 29 games since joining the Bulldogs in January. In total, Panwar has recorded 28 goals, 35 assists and 63 points over 63 games between Hamilton and Peterborough in 2022-23. The former second round (23rd overall) pick by the London Knights in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection has registered 51 goals, 67 assists and 118 points in 194 career regular season games split between the Knights, Flint Firebirds, Peterborough Petes and Hamilton Bulldogs. Panwar attended rookie camp with the Florida Panthers as a free agent invite in September.

Also considered for the award this week, Nashville Predators prospect Nolan Burke of the Sarnia Sting produced four goals, two assists and six points in two victories last week. Chicago Blackhawks prospect Gavin Hayes of the Flint Firebirds contributed five goals and an assist for six points in three wins.

Battalion’s Domenic DiVincentiis Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

For the second-straight week and third time this season, Winnipeg Jets prospect Dom DiVincentiis of the North Bay Battalion is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with two wins including a shutout, a goals-against average of 0.50 and a save percentage of .984.

Stopping 63 of the 64 shots he faced, DiVincentiis defended the crease in back-to-back victories for the Battalion last week. He turned aside 36 of the 37 shots that came his way on Wednesday as North Bay defeated the Owen Sound Attack 4-1. The 6-foot-2, 190lb. netminder was back in the crease on Sunday, stopping all 27 shots he faced to earn his fourth shutout of the season as the Battalion blanked the London Knights 4-0. Together with goaltending partner Charlie Robertson, DiVincentiis has helped the Battalion put together a run of one goal allowed over their past five games.

A 19-year-old native of Bolton, Ont., DiVincentiis owns a record of 34-9-2-0 on the season with a league-best 2.36 goals-against average along with a .918 save percentage. He was the recipient of the OHL’s F.W. ‘Dinty’ Moore Trophy in 2021-22, posting a league-low 2.59 goals-against average among rookies to go with a 14-8-0-1 record and .907 save percentage. DiVincentiis was selected in the seventh round (207th overall) by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2022 NHL Draft.  He’s a former sixth round (116th overall) pick by the Battalion in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection.

Also in the running for the award this week, New York Islanders prospect Tristan Lennox of the Saginaw Spirit recorded a two-win week with a 1.00 goals-against average, and .962 save percentage. Arizona Coyotes prospect Anson Thornton of the Barrie Colts also played to a 2-0 mark with a 2.00 goals-against average and .930 save percentage.

Sting’s Christian Kyrou Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Dallas Stars prospect Christian Kyrou of the Sarnia Sting is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording two goals, five assists and seven points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-6.

Kyrou started his week off strong on Wednesday, recording an assist along with the shootout game winner as the Sting defeated the Soo Greyhounds 4-3 to clinch a spot in the 2023 OHL Playoffs. He found the scoresheet again on Friday, also recording three helpers as the Sting defeated the visiting London Knights 6-1. Kyrou helped the Sting close out a perfect weekend on Sunday, scoring the game winner late in the third period to finish with two goals, an assist and first star honours in a 9-6 win over the Windsor Spitfires.

A 19-year-old native of Komoka, Ont., Kyrou has recorded 67 points (18-49-67) in 56 games between Sarnia and Erie this season. He was a second round (50th overall) pick of the Dallas Stars last summer following 18 goals, 42 assists and 60 points in 68 games with the Erie Otters last season. The 5-foot-11, 182lb. defenceman was originally Erie’s fifth round (84th overall) pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection.

Also considered for the award this week, Barrie Colts overage forward Evan Vierling produced three goals, six assists and nine points in three contests last week. Detroit Red Wings prospect Amadeus Lombardi of the Flint Firebirds contributed three goals and three assists for six points in two victories.

Battalion’s Dom DiVincentiis Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Winnipeg Jets prospect Dom DiVincentiis of the North Bay Battalion is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with two wins including a shutout, a goals-against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .972.

DiVincentiis backstopped the Battalion in back-to-back victories last week, starting with a 23-save effort in Thursday’s 5-2 win over the visiting Sudbury Wolves. The win was DiVincentiis’ 31st of the season, pushing him ahead of Jake Smith’s previously established single season franchise wins record from 2015-16.  DiVincentiis was back in the crease on Friday in Mississauga, stopping all 46 shots he faced to earn his third career OHL shutout as the Battalion defeated the Steelheads 3-0.

An 18-year-old native of Bolton, Ont., DiVincentiis owns a record of 32-9-2-0 on the season with a league-best 2.45 goals-against average along with a .915 save percentage. He was the recipient of the OHL’s F.W. ‘Dinty’ Moore Trophy in 2021-22, posting a league-low 2.59 goals-against average among rookies to go with a 14-8-0-1 record and .907 save percentage. DiVincentiis was selected in the seventh round (207th overall) by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2022 NHL Draft.  He’s a former sixth round (116th overall) pick by the Battalion in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection.

Also in the running for the award this week, New York Islanders prospect Tristan Lennox of the Saginaw Spirit turned aside 88 shots, including a 59-save shutout in Peterborough on Thursday to end the week with a 1.44 goals-against average, and .967 save percentage. Marco Costantini of the Kitchener Rangers played to a 2-0 mark with a 2.00 goals-against average, .944 save percentage and one shutout.

Storm’s Braeden Bowman Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Braeden Bowman of the Guelph Storm is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording four goals, five assists and nine points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-3.

Guiding the Storm to an undefeated 3-0 week, Bowman got things started with a pair of goals and an assist on Monday as Guelph defeated the Owen Sound Attack 6-2 on Family Day. He recorded a career-high five points with a goal and four assists on Friday as the Storm defeated the visiting Soo Greyhounds 7-3. The 6-foot-2, 195 lb. right-winger extended his goal-scoring streak to four games on Sunday, finding the back of the net as the Storm closed out the weekend with a 4-3 overtime win against the London Knights. Bowman now has points in 20 of his last 22 games.

A 19-year-old native of Kitchener, Ont., Bowman has matched last year’s total of 27 goals while tacking on 25 assists for 52 points in 43 games this season. His 22.9 percent shooting percentage is currently tied for the third-highest in the OHL. The former fifth round (96th overall) pick by the Storm in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection has registered 54 goals, 35 assists and 89 points in 105 career regular season games as he continues his third season in Guelph. Bowman attended rookie camp with the San Jose Sharks last September.

Also given consideration for the award this week were Los Angeles Kings prospect Brandt Clarke of the Barrie Colts who recorded one goal and eight assists (1-8-9) over four games, along with a plus/minus rating of plus-7. Clarke set a new Barrie Colts franchise record for career points by a defenceman, passing Luch Nasato on the club’s all-time list. Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ty Voit of the Sarnia Sting was also a standout registered two goals and seven helpers for nine points over four games.

Petes’ Michael Simpson Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Michael Simpson of the Peterborough Petes is the OHL Goaltender of the Week for the third time this season, going 3-0 with a shutout, a 1.33 goals-against average and .963 save percentage.

Simpson was in the crease for Peterborough’s 4-0 Family Day win over the Sudbury Wolves as he turned aside all 45 shots he faced for his second of back-to-back shutouts, earning first star recognition for his fifth clean sheet of the season. He turned aside 41 of 43 shots that came his way on Thursday as the Petes defeated the West Division-leading Windsor Spitfires 6-2. The 6-foot-1, 198 lb. goaltender was back between the pipes on Friday, backstopping the Petes to a 5-2 road victory over the Oshawa Generals where he made 19 saves for the win. Simpson closed out the weekend with a total of 105 saves over three games played.

A 20-year-old from London, Ont., the 23-16-1-2 Simpson leads the OHL in saves (1,211), save percentage (.917) and shutouts (5) along with a 2.62 goals-against average through 43 games. The second-year netminder played to a 20-18-3-1 mark in 2021-22, registering a 3.56 goals-against average and .891 save percentage. Simpson was a 10th round (193rd overall) pick by the Petes in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection from the London Jr. Knights U16 program.

Also in the running for the award this week, Owen Sound Attack rookie netminder Carter George turned aside 76 shots, going 1-1 with a 1.51 goals-against average and .962 save percentage. Tristan Malboeuf of the Hamilton Bulldogs played to a 2-1 mark with a 1.70 goals-against average, .949 save percentage and a shoutout victory.
