OHL ANNOUNCES TOP PERFORMERS OF THE MONTH FOR OCTOBER

TORONTO (Saturday, November 1, 2025) – The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) today announced Top Performers of the Month for October, with additional totals from September’s opening weeks of the regular season also recognized.

Player of the Month – Jake O’Brien (Brantford Bulldogs) – 12 GP, 7G, 19A, 26 PTS., +15
Seattle Kraken prospect Jake O’Brien of the Brantford Bulldogs is the OHL Player of the Month for October, starting his season with a league-leading 26 points (7-19–26) through just 12 games. O’Brien’s start featured seven different multi-point outings highlighted by five points (3-2–5) on Oct. 12th in an 8-5 win over the Ottawa 67’s. He tallied four points (1-3–4) in a game on Oct. 26th as the Bulldogs defeated the host Oshawa Generals 4-1. Behind O’Brien’s leadership, Brantford remains the lone OHL team that is undefeated in regulation (11-0-2-1) entering the month of November.

Named Bulldogs captain to start the season, the 18-year-old O’Brien leads the OHL with 26 points in his third OHL season. The former OHL Rookie of the Year in 2023-24 has 188 career points (52-136–188) over 139 regular season games as a Bulldog. Brantford selected O’Brien with the eighth overall pick in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. He was Seattle’s first round (8th overall) pick last summer, signing an entry-level NHL contract with the Kraken on July 3, 2025.

Also considered for the award this month, Owen Sound Attack forward Tristan Delisle rides a 16-game point streak, producing 24 points (9-15–24) in that span. Bulldogs teammate Adam Benak, a Minnesota Wild prospect, was also productive with 24 points (7-17–24) over 12 games.

Defenceman of the Month – Carson Woodall (Windsor Spitfires) – 16 GP, 2G, 20A, 22 PTS., +4
Windsor Spitfires blueliner Carson Woodall is the OHL Defenceman of the Month for October, leading OHL rearguards with 22 points (2-20–22) over 16 contests. The third year veteran has recorded a point in all but two of his outings this season, scoring his two goals in a 2-0 win over the Ottawa 67’s on Oct. 23rd. Woodall’s offensive productivity has helped the Spitfires put together the league’s third-ranked power play at 32.8 percent, with him leading all OHL players in power play points with 14 (1-13–14).

A 19-year-old from nearby Belle River, ON, Woodall is a former 10th round (202nd overall) pick by the Spitfires in 2022 who has developed into a reliable contributor on the blueline. The 5-foot-11, 183Ib. defenceman has accrued 89 points (11-78–89) over his 142 career regular season games with the Spitfires.

Also considered for the award this month, New York Islanders prospect Kashawn Aitcheson of the Barrie Colts leads OHL defencemen with nine goals, including a pair of recent overtime winners. The 18-year-old Aitcheson has 15 points (9-6–15) in as many games.

Goaltender of the Month – Joey Costanzo (Windsor Spitfires) – 11 GP, 9-1-0-0, 1.66 GAA, .923 SV%, 2 SO
Joey Costanzo of the Windsor Spitfires is the OHL Goaltender of the Month for October, compiling an impressive record of 9-1 with a 1.66 goals-against average and .923 save percentage over 11 contests. Costanzo’s success featured a pair of shutouts, with the first in a 4-0 win over the Sudbury Wolves on Sept. 25th followed by another in a 6-0 triumph over the Niagara IceDogs on Oct. 2nd.

A 20-year-old from Toronto, Costanzo owns a career OHL record of 84-50-5-4 with a 3.61 goals-against average and .884 save percentage with seven shutouts over 158 regular season games between Windsor and Niagara. He was originally. Niagara’s second round (23rd overall) pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection.

Also considered for the award this week, Mason Vaccari of the Flint Firebirds was very good in October, going 7-2-1-0 with a 2.66 goals-against average and .923 save percentage and two shutouts over 10 games. Niagara IceDogs newcomer Vladislav Yermolenko also made a strong impression, going 6-1-0-1 with a 2.63 goals-against average, a .925 save percentage and one shutout over nine games. Additionally, San Jose Sharks prospect Christian Kirsch of the Kitchener Rangers played to an 8-2-0-0 mark with a 1.99 goals-against average, .920 save percentage and one shutout.

Rookie of the Month – Nikita Klepov (Saginaw Spirit) – 15 GP, 10G, 13A, 23 PTS., +2
First-year Saginaw Spirit forward Nikita Klepov is the OHL Rookie of the Month for October, pacing OHL newcomers with 23 points (10-13–23) over 15 games. Klepov’s introduction to the OHL has been headlined by a five-point effort (2-3–5) on Oct. 4th as the Spirit skated to a 7-5 road win over the Owen Sound Attack. He’s proceeded to post a goal and an assist on Oct. 18th at Flint and Oct. 24th vs. Erie. Klepov currently leads all OHL skaters with 71 shots on goal.

A 17-year-old from Deerfield Beach, Florida, Klepov comes to the OHL from the USHL’s Sioux City Musketeers where he posted 31 points (12-19–31) over 59 games in 2024-25. Selected 35th overall by the Spirit in the 2025 CHL Import Draft, Klepov is an A-rated skater on NHL Central Scouting’s preliminary players to watch list, indicating a potential first round NHL Draft pick. The 6-foot, 180Ib. right-wing won gold with the United States at this past summer’s Hlinka-Gretzky Cup. Klepov is committed to Michigan State (NCAA).

Also considered for the award this week, fellow NHL Draft prospect Caleb Malhotra of the Brantford Bulldogs piled up 19 points (6-13–19) over 14 games. Spirit teammate Levi Harper was a productive force on the blueline, recording 15 points (5-10–15) over 15 contests. In the crease, Ryder Fetterolf of the Ottawa 67’s went 5-2-1-0 with a 2.10 goals-against average and .919 save percentage.

IceDogs’ Ethan Czata named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Ethan Czata of the Niagara IceDogs is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording five points over a pair of road wins.

Czata returned from Lightning training camp to help the IceDogs defeat the Saginaw Spirit 5-4 in a shootout on Friday night, recording an assist before scoring twice in a span of 2:29 to close-out the second period. He’d convert in the shootout to help Niagara pick-up two points before factoring into another win on Saturday, registering a goal and an assist as the IceDogs blanked the Flint Firebirds 4-0.

An 18-year-old from Brampton, Czata returns for his third season in Niagara coming-off 21 goals, 34 assists and 55 points over 68 games in 2024-25. Internationally, he’s helped Canada win gold at both the World U18 Hockey Championship and Hlinka-Gretzky Cup as well as the World U17 Hockey Challenge. Czata was chosen by Tampa Bay in the second round (56th overall) this past summer and signed an entry-level deal with the Lightning on July 22nd. He was originally Niagara’s first round (fifth overall) pick in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection.

Also considered for the award this week, Soo Greyhounds forward Jordan Charron recorded six points (4-2–6) over three games as the Hounds won a pair of games on the road.

Spitfires’ Joey Costanzo named Mary Brown’s Chicken OHL Goaltender of the Week

Joey Costanzo of the Windsor Spitfires is the Mary Brown’s Chicken OHL Goaltender of the Week, going 2-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average, a .980 save percentage and one shutout.

Costanzo turned in a 17-save shutout on Thursday as the Spitfires defeated the Sudbury Wolves 4-0 at the WFCU Centre. He was back in the crease on Saturday night in Barrie, earning second star honours with 31 saves as the Spitfires defeated the Colts 3-1. Barrie outshot Windsor 20-3 in the third period, with Costanzo turning aside 19 of those attempts.

A 20-year-old from Toronto, Costanzo is embarking on this fifth OHL season, coming off a 2024-25 campaign that saw him go 34-10-3-1 with a 2.94 goals-against average and .892 save percentage over 51 games. His 73 career wins as a Spitfire are the third-most in franchise history behind Michael DiPietro and Andrew Engelage. Costanzo recently attended Philadelphia Flyers training camp. He was Niagara’s second round (23rd overall) pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection.

Bulldogs’ Caleb Malhotra named OHL Rookie of the Week

NHL Draft eligible Brantford Bulldogs forward Caleb Malhotra is the OHL Rookie of the Week, recording five points in Saturday’s 7-2 win over the Sudbury Wolves.

Malhotra teamed-up with fellow newcomer Cooper Dennis at the TD Civic Centre, scoring twice while adding three assists as the Bulldogs beat Sudbury to improve to 2-0-1-0 on the season. The 6-foot-2, 182Ib. centreman scored the deciding goal on the power play with 2:55 remaining in the second period and would later set up Adam Benak’s first OHL goal on the penalty kill late in the third.

Malhotra, from Toronto, is Brantford’s early-season scoring leader with eight points (3-5–8) through his first three games. The Bulldogs acquired Malhotra from the Kingston Frontenacs in a trade on Sept. 12, 2024 after he was originally selected eighth overall by Kingston in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection. Malhotra spent 2024-25 with the BCHL’s Chilliwack Chiefs, producing 26 points (8-18–26) over 44 games. The Vaughan Kings AAA graduate is committed to Boston University (NCAA).

Rangers prospect Alex Forrest named GOHL Prospect of the Week

Kitchener Rangers defence prospect Alex Forrest of the Cambridge RedHawks is the GOHL Prospect of the Week, recording five points over his first two games in the GOHL.

The 16-year-old defenceman found the back of the net in his GOHL debut on Thursday, helping the RedHawks defeat the host Ayr Centennials 7-3. He helped Cambridge hang-up a crooked number at home against the Welland Jr. Canadians on Saturday, posting four assists in a 15-2 triumph as the RedHawks improved to a perfect 6-0 to start the year.

A native of Grimsby, ON, Forrest was chosen by the Rangers with the second round (24th overall) pick of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection. The 5-foot-11, 157Ib. left-shot blueliner recorded one assist over five preseason games with Kitchener and appeared in the club’s first two games of the regular season. He registered 39 points (10-29–39) over 34 games with the OMHA’s Oakville Rangers U16 AAA team last season, before joining the GOHL’s St. Catharines Falcons to post four points (1-3–4) over 13 games during their playoff run last spring.

Knights’ Denver Barkey Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Philadelphia Flyers prospect Denver Barkey of the London Knights is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, registering four goals, three assists and seven points in a pair of victories.

The Knights captain played a pivotal role in securing a 2-0 second round series lead over the Erie Otters last week. He recorded a hat trick and was named first star in Thursday’s 6-3 win, before adding a goal and three assists to earn first star honours once again in Saturday’s 7-2 victory.

Selected 16th overall by the London Knights in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, the soon-to-be 20-year-old from Newmarket, Ont. recorded 82 points (25-57-82) in 50 regular season games, and currently ranks second in playoff scoring with 19 points (9-10-19) through six contests in the 2024-25 postseason. Now in his fourth season with the Knights, Barkey has amassed 258 points (89-169-258) over 228 career regular season games, along with 72 points (27-45-72) in 49 playoff appearances. The 5-foot-10, 171-pound forward was a key part of the Knights’ OHL championship run last season. He was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the third round (95th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft.

Also considered for this week’s award, Toronto Maple Leafs prospect and Knights forward Easton Cowan registered seven points (2-5-7) across the two victories. Vancouver Canucks prospect Riley Patterson contributed three goals and three assists to help the Barrie Colts take a 2-0 series lead, while Chicago Blackhawks prospect Nick Lardis of the Brantford Bulldogs stood out with six points (4-2-6) in a pair of wins.

Colts’ Sam Hillebrandt Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Sam Hillebrandt of the Barrie Colts is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, following a pair of wins with a 3.00 goals-against average and .928 save percentage.

Stopping a total of 77 shots last week, Hillebrandt backstopped the Colts to a 2-0 series lead over the Kingston Frontenacs. He turned aside 38 of 40 shots on Thursday, earning first star honours in Barrie’s 6-2 win. The 6-foot-1, 170lb. netminder returned to the crease on Saturday with a 39-save performance as the Colts skated to a 7-4 victory.

A 20-year-old from Riverview, Florida, Hillebrandt posted a 21-13-0-2 record during the regular season, along with a 3.16 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. He’s appeared in five playoff contests so far in 2024-25, maintaining an undefeated 5-0 record with a 3.20 goals-against average and .905 save percentage. Originally from Michigan, Hillebrandt played in the Detroit Little Caesars AAA program before relocating to Florida. He captured gold with the U.S. National Junior Team at both the 2024 and 2025 World Juniors. The Colts signed Hillebrandt as a free agent ahead of the 2022-23 season following his time with the Florida Alliance North 16U program in 2021-22. Across 76 career regular season OHL appearances, he holds a 38-29-2-2 record with one shutout, a 3.41 goals-against average, and a .900 save percentage.

Also considered for the award this week, Joey Costanzo of the Windsor Spitfires played to a 2-0 record along with a 1.00 goals-against average and .947 save percentage, while Austin Elliott of the London Knights was also a standout, going 2-0 with a 2.50 goals-against average and .902 save percentage.

Spitfires’ Andrew Robinson Named OHL Rookie of the Week

Andrew Robinson of the Windsor Spitfires is the OHL Rookie of the Week, registered a goal in a pair of victories last week.

Helping the Spitfires take a 2-0 series lead over the Kitchener Rangers, the 6-foot, 185lb. defenceman scored his first career OHL goal on Thursday and earned second star honours in a 5-1 win.

Selected by Windsor in the third round (58th overall) of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection from the Vaughan Kings U16 AAA program, the 17-year-old from Oakville, Ont. native appeared in four regular season games with the Spitfires this season. He spent the majority of 2024-25 with the OJHL’s Georgetown Raiders, tallying three goals, 31 assists and 34 points in 53 games played.

Otters’ Pano Fimis Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Pano Fimis of the Erie Otters is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, registering five goals, three assists and eight points in two victories.

Helping the Otters take a 2-0 series lead over the Saginaw Spirit in Round 1 of the OHL Playoffs, Fimis scored twice on Thursday night to earn first-star honours in an 8-5 victory. He found the scoresheet again on Saturday, recording a club playoff record six points including a hat trick and three assists to once again earn first-star honours as Erie secured a 9-5 road win.

The 20-year-old overage centreman recorded 32 goals, 54 assists, and 86 points in 68 games played in Erie this season, also leading the league in the faceoff circle with a 63.2 percent success rate. Originally selected second overall by the Niagara IceDogs in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, the Richmond Hill, Ont. native has appeared in 245 regular season contests between the IceDogs and the Otters, tallying 87 goals, 166 assists and 253 points.

Bulldogs’ Ryerson Leenders Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Buffalo Sabres prospect Ryerson Leenders of the Brantford Bulldogs is the OHL Goaltender of the Week for the fourth time this season, going 2-0 including a shutout, along with a 1.50 goals-against average, and a .944 save percentage.

Helping Brantford take a 2-0 series lead over North Bay in Round 1 of the OHL Playoffs, Leenders made 51 saves last week. He stopped 30 of 33 shots on Friday as the Bulldogs defeated the Battalion 6-3. On Sunday, he earned first-star honours with his first career OHL playoff shutout, making 21 saves in a 3-0 victory.

An 18-year-old from Nanticoke, Ont., Leenders played to a 31-14-3-0 regular season record, with a 3.11 goals-against average and .910 save percentage in 48 games played. The former second-round (32nd overall) pick by Mississauga in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection is now in his third OHL season, owning a career mark of 67-46-10-0 with a 3.21 goals-against average, .903 save percentage and four shutouts over 129 regular season games. Leenders was selected in the seventh round (202nd overall) by Buffalo in the 2024 NHL Draft last summer.

Also considered for the award this week, Joey Costanzo of the Windsor Spitfires went 2-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and .927 save percentage, while Charlie Schenkel of the Kingston Frontenacs was also a standout in the crease, going 2-0 along with a 1.68 goals-against average and .929 save percentage.

Spitfires’ Ethan Garden Named OHL Rookie of the Week

Windsor Spitfires forward Ethan Garden is the OHL Rookie of the Week, registering a goal, two assists and three points in two games played.

Helping Windsor take a 2-0 series lead over the Soo Greyhounds in Round 1 of the 2025 OHL Playoffs, Garden recorded an assist in Thursday’s 7-2 home win. The Belleville, MI native found the scoresheet again on Saturday, adding a goal and an assist to earn third-star honours in a 7-1 victory.

Selected by the Spitfires in the ninth round (164th overall) of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection from the Detroit Little Caesars U15 AAA program, the 5-foot-8, 166lb. forward registered six goals, eight assists, and 14 points in 55 regular season contests.

Also considered for the award this week, Graydon Jones of the Saginaw Spirit recorded three assists in two games played.

Greyhounds’ Marco Mignosa Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Marco Mignosa of the Soo Greyhounds is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, registering four goals, four assists and eight points over three road games.

Mignosa’s eight points led the league as he started off fast, scoring two goals and adding an assist on Wednesday to earn second star honours in the Greyhounds’ 3-1 win over the Windsor Spitfires. He followed up with another goal on Friday despite a close 4-3 loss to the London Knights. On Saturday, Mignosa tied his career-high with a four-point performance, contributing a goal and three assists to help the Greyhounds secure a 4-0 victory over the Flint Firebirds.

A 19-year-old right-winger from Vaughan, Ont., Mignosa has skated in five games with the Greyhounds this season, tallying five goals, six assists and 11 points. Selected by Sault Ste. Marie in the second round (36th overall) at the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, the 5-foot-11, 170lb. forward has tallied 126 points (50-76-126) in 185 regular season games over four seasons.

Also given consideration for the award this week, defenceman Cameron Reid helped the Kitchener Rangers earn six points last week, registering seven points (2-5-7) in three games played. Fellow NHL Draft-eligible prospect Porter Martone of the Brampton Steelheads was also a standout, recording four goals, three assists and seven points over three games played.

Rangers’ Jackson Parsons Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Jackson Parsons of the Kitchener Rangers is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, going 2-0-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average, and a .952 save percentage.

Parsons turned aside 60 shots last week as the Rangers extended their current winning streak to nine games. He made 21 saves in Tuesday’s 6-1 win over the Sarnia Sting, before returning between the pipes on Sunday afternoon, stopping 39 of the 41 shots he faced in a 4-2 win against the Saginaw Spirit.

A soon-to-be 20-year-old from Embrun, Ont., Parsons is 9-2-1-0 on the season with a 2.73 goals-against average and .905 save percentage over 12 games. The former third round (53rd overall) pick by Kitchener in 2020 is now in his fourth OHL season, owning a career mark of 46-34-5-0 with a 3.24 goals-against average, .896 save percentage and four shutouts over 90 regular season games.

Also considered for the award this week, Windsor Spitfires netminder Joey Costanzo went 2-1-0-0 with a 1.01 goals-against average and .948 save percentage including a shutout, while Noah Erliden of the Erie Otters was also a standout in the crease, going 2-0-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and .940 save percentage including a shutout.

Knights’ Aleksei Medvedev Named OHL Rookie of the Week

Aleksei Medvedev is the OHL Rookie of the Week after a standout 1-0 performance last week.

Medvedev made 38 saves in Sunday’s 2-1 road win over the Owen Sound Attack, earning his fifth OHL win with a 0.94 goals-against average and a .974 save percentage.

The 17-year-old from Vaughan, Ont., has appeared in nine games with the Knights this season, posting a 5-2-0-0 record, along with a 2.89 goals-against average, and .912 save percentage. The 6-foot-1, 164Ib. netminder was selected by London in the second round (38th overall) of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. Medvedev was recently listed as a C-rated prospect in NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Players to Watch list for the 2025 NHL Draft.

OHL Writers Draft Eligible Players of the Month: October

Each Ontario Hockey League season, we make our selections for forward of the month, defenceman of the month and goaltender of the month among the league’s players eligible for the NHL Entry Draft. Now that the month of October is behind us, let’s take a look at our choices.

Forward of the Month – Michael Misa – Saginaw Spirit

Misa appeared in 10 games for the Spirit in October and scored 10 goals while adding 8 assists in those games. Only one of those goals came with the man advantage while another came while down a man. He never managed less than 3 SOG and had a high of 9 SOG on October 26 against the London Knights. Misa was named the OHL’s player of the month for October.

Also considered was Porter Martone of the Brampton Steelheads. Martone appeared in 9 games and scored 11 goals and added 8 assists. He was only held off the scoresheet once on October 12 against the Barrie Colts. Martone was runner up to Misa for the OHL’s player of the month.

Defenceman of the Month – Cameron Reid – Kitchener Rangers

Reid appeared in 12 games in October and scored 3 goals and adding 10 assists to lead all draft eligible defencemen. Five of his games were multi point games and he was a minus player in just 3 games in October.

Also considered were Jack Brauti of the Niagara IceDogs with 1 goal and 7 assists in 11 games and Mitch Young of the Sarnia Sting with 2 goals and 6 assists in 13 games.

Goaltender of the Month – Joey Costanzo – Windsor Spitfires

Costanzo appeared in 8 games and went 7-1-0-0 in those games while stopping 190 of 201 shots he faced for a save percentage of .945 and a goals-against average of 1.63. He was named the OHL’s goaltender of the month for October.

Also considered was Noah Erliden of the Erie Otters who played in 7 games with a 4-1-1-9 record. He stopped 239 of 256 shots he faced for a .934 save percentage. 

OHL ANNOUNCES TOP PERFORMERS OF THE MONTH FOR OCTOBER

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced Top Performers of the Month for October, including a small number of games played in September to begin the 2024-25 regular season.

Player of the Month – Michael Misa (Saginaw Spirit)
Top 2025 NHL Draft prospect Michael Misa of the Saginaw Spirit is the OHL Player of the Month for October, leading the league with 17 goals over 13 games with a plus/minus rating of plus-8. Misa, who added nine assists to his stat line for a total of 26 points, has been held without a goal just twice so far this season, and has recorded at least one point in all 13 of his outings. Misa’s start to the season was headlined by a hat-trick as part of a four-point effort on Sept. 27th against the Soo Greyhounds. He enters November having scored in five consecutive games. Misa is the first Spirit player to earn OHL Player of the Month honours since Eric Locke in February 2013.

A 17-year-old from Oakville, Ont., Misa was selected by the Spirit as an exceptional status player with the first overall pick of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. The 6-foot-1, 185Ib. centreman has accumulated 68 goals, 89 assists and 157 points over 125 season games with the Spirit, tacking on an additional 19 points (7-12–19) over 28 playoff contests. Misa, who hoisted the Memorial Cup with Saginaw this past June, was included as an A-rated prospect on NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Players to Watch List. He’ll compete as a member of Team CHL in the upcoming CHL/USA Prospects Challenge slated to take place on Nov. 26th and 27th in London and Oshawa.

Also considered for the award this month, Los Angeles Kings prospect Liam Greentree of the Windsor Spitfires put up 27 points (7-20–27) over 12 contests. NHL Draft prospect Porter Martone of the Brampton Steelheads was also a standout, registering 25 points (12-13–25) over 11 games to begin the campaign.

Defenceman of the Month – Luca Marrelli (Oshawa Generals)
Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Luca Marrelli of the Oshawa Generals is the OHL Defenceman of the Month for October, leading blueliners with 17 points including eight goals and nine assists over 14 games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-13. Marrelli’s eight goals, just one of which has come on the power play while two have been game-winners, lead OHL blueliners. Marrelli has been held off the scoresheet just three times and he enters November with multi-point outputs in three consecutive games. Marrelli is the first Generals defender to earn OHL Defenceman of the Month recognition since Michael Del Zotto in December 2008.

A 19-year-old from Toronto, Ont., Marrelli has recorded 114 points (19-95–114) over 201 OHL regular season games since being selected by the Generals with their fifth-round (81st overall) pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. The 6-foot-2, 184Ib. defender helped Oshawa win an Eastern Conference title last spring, producing 13 points (2-11–13) over 21 playoff games. Marrelli was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the third-round (86th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the award this month, London Knights defenceman Sam Dickinson returned from the San Jose Sharks to produce 15 points (7-8–15) over his first 10 games of the season. Windsor Spitfires blueliner Anthony Cristoforo was also excellent, leading the OHL with a plus/minus rating of plus-20 while recording 12 points (2-10–12) over 13 games.

Goaltender of the Month – Joey Costanzo (Windsor Spitfires)
Windsor Spitfires netminder Joey Costanzo is the OHL Goaltender of the Month for October, playing to a 9-1-0-0 record with a 1.90 goals-against average, .934 save percentage and one shutout. Costanzo has surrendered more than two goals in a game just twice so far in 2024-25, steering the Spitfires to the top of the West Division standings. The fourth-year veteran came out of the gate with nine consecutive wins to start the season, making 30+ saves on four different occasions. Costanzo becomes the first Spitfire to get the nod as OHL Goaltender of the Month since Michael DiPietro in December 2016.

A 19-year-old from Toronto, Ont., Costanzo owns a career mark of 50-40-2-3 with a 3.96 goals-against average, .882 save percentage and two shutouts over 106 career regular season matchups between Windsor and Niagara. The 6-foot-1, 174Ib. Costanzo was the first goaltender chosen in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, going in the second-round (23rd overall) to the Niagara IceDogs from the Toronto Marlboros U16 AAA program.

Also considered for the award this month, Owen Flores of the Niagara IceDogs was impressive, playing to a 7-1-0-0 record with a 2.26 goals-against average and .935 save percentage. Edmonton Oilers prospect Nathan Day of the Flint Firebirds turned aside 280 shots, going 6-4-0-1 with a 2.26 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.

Rookie of the Month – Ethan Belchetz (Windsor Spitfires)
First overall 2024 OHL Priority Selection choice Ethan Belchetz is off to a great start, being named October’s OHL Rookie of the Month with 12 points including four goals and eight assists over 12 games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-6. Belchetz led OHL rookies in points (12) and shots on goal (41) to begin the campaign, with two of his four markers coming shorthanded. His six-points effort (4-2–6) on Sept, 28th vs. Kitchener was the most productive single game performance by a 16-year-old rookie in the OHL since March 2010. Belchetz enters November with points in each of his last two outings and joins teammates Cole Davis (November 2023) and Liam Greentree (March 2023) in earning Rookie of the Month honours.

A 6-foot-5, 226Ib. 16-year-old from Oakville, Ont., Belchetz was chosen by the Spitfires with the first overall pick of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection. Last year’s OHL Cup MVP was instrumental in leading the Oakville Rangers to a championship title in the annual showcase. Belchetz is set to represent Canada White in the 2024 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge taking place in Sarnia beginning on Sunday.

Also considered for the award this month, Sarnia Sting forward Beckham Edwards had 11 points (6-5–11) in his first 14 OHL games. Draft eligible forward Filip Ekberg of the Ottawa 67’s put up 10 points (5-5–10) over 12 contests.

Spitfires’ Liam Greentree Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Los Angeles Kings prospect Liam Greentree of the Windsor Spitfires is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, registering four goals, seven assists and 11 points over three contests.

Greentree captained the League-leading Spitfires to a three-win week, scoring once while adding three assists in a 5-2 win over the Oshawa Generals on Monday to earn first star honours. Greentree tallied another four-point (1-3-4) showing on Friday, defeating the Guelph Storm 4-1. Greentree closed out the week with a pair of goals and an assist in a 4-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack on Saturday, boosting the Spitfires to an 8-1-1-0 record on the season.

An 18-year-old left-winger from Oshawa, Ont., Greentree leads all OHL players in points this season with six goals, 17 assists, and 23 points (6-17-23) in nine games. Drafted 26th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2024 NHL Draft, the 6-foot-3, 216lb. forward has tallied 158 points (67-91-158) in 134 regular season games for Windsor. He was selected by the Spitfires in the second round, 34th overall, of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection.

Also given consideration for the award this week, Spitfires teammate and Washington Capitals prospect Ilya Protas played a big role in Windsor’s six-point week, registering three goals, four assists and seven points. Michael Misa of the Saginaw Spirit was also a standout, with seven points (3-4—7) over three games played.

Costanzo closed out a perfect weekend with a 4-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack on Saturday, turning aside 24-of-25 shots. The Spitfires currently lead the OHL standings with an 8-1-1-0 record this season.

A 19-year-old from Toronto, Ont., Costanzo ranks second among all OHL goaltenders with a .932 save percentage and 2.00 goals-against average this season with a league-leading eight wins. Originally drafted by the Niagara IceDogs in the second round (23rd overall) of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, Costanzo has played to a 49-39-2-3 record including two shutouts over 104 regular season games split between the IceDogs and the Spitfires, with a career save percentage of .881 and a 4.02 goals-against average.

Also considered or the award this week, Charlie Schenkel of the Soo Greyhounds went 1-1-0-0, making 70 saves last week. Noah Erliden of the Erie Otters was also a standout, going 1-1-0-0 with 62 saves.

Sting’s Alessandro Di Iorio Named OHL Rookie of the Week

Sarnia Sting forward Alessandro Di Iorio is the OHL Rookie of the Week, recording five assists over three contests.

Di Iorio helped the Sting earn five of a possible six points with a pair of wins followed by a shootout loss. He contributed a pair of assists in Thursday’s 3-1 win over the North Bay Battalion. Di Iorio helped the Sting earn their second win of the weekend against the Sudbury Wolves on Friday, registering two helpers to earn second star honours in the 5-1 victory. The Sting closed out their road trip with a 5-4 shootout loss to the Soo Greyhounds on Sunday as Di Iorio recorded another assist.

A 16-year-old centreman from Vaughan, Ont., Di Iorio ranks seventh among all rookie point-getters, tallying seven points (2-5—7) through his first 11 OHL contests. The Sting selected Di Iorio second overall in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection from the Vaughan Kings U16 AAA program.

Also considered for the award this week were Ottawa 67’s teammates Filip Ekberg (1-4-5) and Kohyn Eshkawkogan (1-2-3), despite the team falling short in three games over the weekend.

IceDogs’ Kevin He Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Winnipeg Jets prospect Kevin He of the Niagara IceDogs is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording three goals along with four assist for seven points over two games played.

He registered an assist on Friday night, contributing to the IceDogs’ 5-3 triumph over the Oshawa Generals. On Sunday, the 6-foot, 180lb. forward delivered a career-best performance, racking up three goals and three assists for an impressive six-point night. The six points tie a Niagara IceDogs single game franchise record. Securing a perfect weekend for the IceDogs, He’s standout showing earned him first-star honours in a 7-3 victory over the Brampton Steelheads.

An 18-year-old from Nobleton, Ont., He ranks fourth among OHL point-producers so far this season, tallying six goals, five assists and 11 points in four games played. Selected in the fourth round (109th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets, He has recorded 98 points (58-40–98) in 134 career OHL regular season games with the IceDogs after being chosen in the second round, 25th overall by the club in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection.

Also considered for the award this week, 2025 NHL Draft-eligible prospect Porter Martone of the Brampton Steelheads found the scoresheet, totaling seven points (4-3-7) in three games played. Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Luca Pinelli was a standout for the Ottawa 67’s, registering four goals, an assist and five points in a pair of victories.

Spitfires’ Joey Costanzo Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Joey Costanzo of the Windsor Spitfires is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, going 2-0 with a shutout, along with a 0.50 goals-against average and .981 save percentage.

Stopping 53 of the 54 shots he faced last week, Costanzo turned aside all 27 shots that came his way to earn second star honours in a 5-0 victory over the Soo Greyhounds on Thursday night. The 6-foot-1, 174lb. netminder was back in the crease on Saturday, stopping 26 of the 27 shots he faced as the Spitfires closed out a perfect weekend with a 5-1 road win over the Brantford Bulldogs.

A 19-year-old from Toronto, Ont., Costanzo currently leads all OHL goaltenders with a league-best .943 save percentage this season across four games played. Originally drafted by the Niagara IceDogs in the second round (23rd overall) of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, Costanzo has played to a 45-39-2-3 record including two shutouts over 100 regular season games split between the IceDogs and the Spitfires, with a career save percentage of .880 and a 4.09 goals-against average.

Also considered or the award this week, Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Nolan Lalonde of the Kingston Frontenacs went 1-0-0-1, including a shutout. Edmonton Oilers prospect Nathan Day of the Flint Firebirds was also a standout, making 55 saves in a two-win weekend.

Sting’s Beckham Edwards Named OHL Rookie of the Week

Beckham Edwards of the Sarnia Sting is the OHL Rookie of the Week, registering three goals, an assist, and four points in three games played.

Edwards opened the week with a goal on Friday night as the Sting came up short in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Saginaw Spirit. The 6-foot-1, 170lb. centreman earned second star honours on Saturday, tallying a pair of goals in a 3-2 overtime loss against the Flint Firebirds. Edwards closed out the weekend with an assist on Sunday as the Sting earned two points in a 2-1 win over the Soo Greyhounds.

Selected in the third round (46th overall) by the Sting in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection from the Detroit Little Caesars U15 AAA program, Edwards ranks second among all OHL rookies in points this season, registering five (4-1-5) points in as many games played.

Also considered for the award this week, a pair of Niagara IceDogs teammates in Braidy Wassilyn (2-2-4) and Max Crete (2-1-3) were productive on the ice, contributing to a two-win weekend for the club.

Frontenacs’ Ethan Miedema Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

2023 NHL Draft prospect Ethan Miedema of the Kingston Frontenacs is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording six goals, two assists and eight points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-6.

Recording two four-point nights last week, Miedema got things started with four goals in a 6-2 win over the Oshawa Generals on Wednesday. The four-goal effort was the first by a Frontenac since Warren Foegele last netted four in a game on Mar. 26, 2016. The 6-foot-4, 201 lb. forward closed out the weekend with a pair of goals and assists to earn first star honours as the Frontenacs defeated the Generals in a high-scoring 10-2 road win to wrap-up the season on Sunday.

An 18-year-old native of Cobourg, Ont., Miedema has produced nine goals, 12 assists and 21 points in 32 games since joining the Frontenacs in January. In total, Miedema recorded 20 goals, 32 assists and 52 points in 68 games between Windsor and Kingston in 2022-23. The former first round (4th overall) pick by the Spitfires in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection has registered 34 goals, 56 assists and 90 points in 133 career regular season games. Miedema competed in the Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in January, and was the 45th-ranked North American skater on NHL Central Scouting’s Midseason Rankings.

Also considered for the award this week, Anaheim Ducks prospect Sasha Pastujov of the Sarnia Sting produced two goals, seven assists and nine points in four games. Logan Morrison of the Ottawa 67’s contributed two goals and four assists for six points in a pair of victories.

67’s’ Collin MacKenzie Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Collin MacKenzie of the Ottawa 67’s is the OHL Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season, going 3-0 with a 1.35 goals-against average and a .953 save percentage.

Stopping a total of 81 shots last week, MacKenzie turned aside 30 of the 31 attempts that came his way on Thursday as Ottawa defeated the Peterborough Petes 4-1. The 6-foot, 171lb. netminder was back in the crease on Friday, stopping 26 of the 28 shots he faced as the 67’s shut down the Petes on back-to-back nights. MacKenzie closed out the weekend with a 5-1 win over the Barrie Colts, blocking 25 of the 26 shots he faced to earn Ottawa’s fifth consecutive win, establishing a franchise record with 51 wins and 107 points in the standings.

An 18-year-old from Elora, Ont., MacKenzie joined goaltending partner Max Donoso in receiving the Dave Pinkney Trophy presented to the goaltenders of the team that surrenders the fewest goals-against during the regular season. MacKenzie finished the season with a 21-2-3-0 record, a 1.88 goals-against average and .928 save percentage in 30 games. He set an OHL record on Oct. 21st in Sault Ste. Marie when he made 15 consecutive shootout saves in a 2-1 victory over the Greyhounds. MacKenzie was Ottawa’s eighth round (160th overall) pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection from the Waterloo Wolves U16 program.

Also in the running for the award this week, rookie netminder Charlie Robertson of the North Bay Battalion recorded a two-win week with a 2.00 goals-against average, and .947 save percentage. Joey Costanzo of the Windsor Spitfires also played to a 2-0 mark with a 2.00 goals-against average and .941 save percentage.
