Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced Top Performers of the Week for the week of playoff games ending Sunday, April 13.



Knights’ Denver Barkey Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Philadelphia Flyers prospect Denver Barkey of the London Knights is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, registering four goals, three assists and seven points in a pair of victories.

The Knights captain played a pivotal role in securing a 2-0 second round series lead over the Erie Otters last week. He recorded a hat trick and was named first star in Thursday’s 6-3 win, before adding a goal and three assists to earn first star honours once again in Saturday’s 7-2 victory.

Selected 16th overall by the London Knights in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, the soon-to-be 20-year-old from Newmarket, Ont. recorded 82 points (25-57-82) in 50 regular season games, and currently ranks second in playoff scoring with 19 points (9-10-19) through six contests in the 2024-25 postseason. Now in his fourth season with the Knights, Barkey has amassed 258 points (89-169-258) over 228 career regular season games, along with 72 points (27-45-72) in 49 playoff appearances. The 5-foot-10, 171-pound forward was a key part of the Knights’ OHL championship run last season. He was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the third round (95th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft.

Also considered for this week’s award, Toronto Maple Leafs prospect and Knights forward Easton Cowan registered seven points (2-5-7) across the two victories. Vancouver Canucks prospect Riley Patterson contributed three goals and three assists to help the Barrie Colts take a 2-0 series lead, while Chicago Blackhawks prospect Nick Lardis of the Brantford Bulldogs stood out with six points (4-2-6) in a pair of wins.

Colts’ Sam Hillebrandt Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Sam Hillebrandt of the Barrie Colts is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, following a pair of wins with a 3.00 goals-against average and .928 save percentage.

Stopping a total of 77 shots last week, Hillebrandt backstopped the Colts to a 2-0 series lead over the Kingston Frontenacs. He turned aside 38 of 40 shots on Thursday, earning first star honours in Barrie’s 6-2 win. The 6-foot-1, 170lb. netminder returned to the crease on Saturday with a 39-save performance as the Colts skated to a 7-4 victory.

A 20-year-old from Riverview, Florida, Hillebrandt posted a 21-13-0-2 record during the regular season, along with a 3.16 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. He’s appeared in five playoff contests so far in 2024-25, maintaining an undefeated 5-0 record with a 3.20 goals-against average and .905 save percentage. Originally from Michigan, Hillebrandt played in the Detroit Little Caesars AAA program before relocating to Florida. He captured gold with the U.S. National Junior Team at both the 2024 and 2025 World Juniors. The Colts signed Hillebrandt as a free agent ahead of the 2022-23 season following his time with the Florida Alliance North 16U program in 2021-22. Across 76 career regular season OHL appearances, he holds a 38-29-2-2 record with one shutout, a 3.41 goals-against average, and a .900 save percentage.

Also considered for the award this week, Joey Costanzo of the Windsor Spitfires played to a 2-0 record along with a 1.00 goals-against average and .947 save percentage, while Austin Elliott of the London Knights was also a standout, going 2-0 with a 2.50 goals-against average and .902 save percentage.

Spitfires’ Andrew Robinson Named OHL Rookie of the Week

Andrew Robinson of the Windsor Spitfires is the OHL Rookie of the Week, registered a goal in a pair of victories last week.

Helping the Spitfires take a 2-0 series lead over the Kitchener Rangers, the 6-foot, 185lb. defenceman scored his first career OHL goal on Thursday and earned second star honours in a 5-1 win.

Selected by Windsor in the third round (58th overall) of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection from the Vaughan Kings U16 AAA program, the 17-year-old from Oakville, Ont. native appeared in four regular season games with the Spitfires this season. He spent the majority of 2024-25 with the OJHL’s Georgetown Raiders, tallying three goals, 31 assists and 34 points in 53 games played.

Forward of the Month – Michael Misa – Saginaw Spirit

Misa continues to charge towards his goal-a-game and assist-a-game pace and January was no different as he notched 9 goals and 13 helpers in just 10 games. Misa was held without a goal in just 3 of those 10 games and without an assist in just 1 game. He now has 39 goals and 45 assists in 42 games played on the season.

Also considered was Misa’s teammate Kristian Epperson. He posted 5 goals and 9 assists in just 7 games. Jake O’Brien of the Brantford Bulldogs had 5 goals and 11 assists in 13 games in January.

Defenceman of the Month – Anthony Cristoforo – Windsor Spitfires

Cristoforo appeared in 11 games for the Spitfires in January and scored 5 goals while adding 5 assists in what was his best offensive output on the season. On January 16 at home to Sudbury, he put up 7 shots on goal for a season high and still managed a 27.7 shooting percentage in the month.

Also considered was Guelph Storm defenceman Quinn Beauchesne. He scored once and added 9 assists in 11 games during the month of January which was also easily the best offensive production of the season for him.

Goaltender of the Month – Aleksei Medvedev – London Knights

Medvedev is our selection for goaltender of the month for the second time this season. The London Knights netminder appeared in 6 games and boasted a 4-1-1-0 record. He had a 32 save shutout on January 17 against the Guelph Storm. For the month, he stopped 177 of 189 shots he faced for a save percentage of .937 and a goals-against-average of 2.00. Medvedev was listed as the top goaltender available for the 2025 NHL Entry Draft from the OHL and 2nd among North American netminders by NHL Central Scouting.

Also considered was Barrie Colts netminder Sam Hillebrandt. He went 3-3-0-0 in six games in January and stopped 184 of 199 shots faced for a .925 save percentage and 2.50 goals-against-average.

Knights’ Sam Dickinson Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

London Knights defenceman Sam Dickinson is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording seven points including two goals and five assists as the Knights strung together three straight wins.

Dickinson, who was selected by the San Jose Sharks with the 11th overall pick of the 2024 NHL Draft, started the week off with an overtime winner along with an assist in Friday’s 4-3 win over the Brantford Bulldogs. Dickinson followed Friday’s first star performance with another on Saturday in Saginaw, scoring and tacking on a helper as the Knights defeated the host Spirit 4-1. He rounded-out the weekend with three assists as London defeated the Sarnia Sting 5-2 on the road.

An 18-year-old from Toronto, Dickinson leads the Knights in scoring, and is second in points among OHL blueliners with 15 (7-8–15) over 10 games. The 6-foot-3, 200Ib. left-shot blueliner leads OHL defencemen with 55 shots on goal in this, his third OHL season. Formerly a fourth overall pick by the Niagara IceDogs in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection, Dickinson has recorded 108 points (34-74–108) over 140 career regular season contests in London. He put up 13 points (4-9–13) over 18 games in last year’s playoffs as the Knights were crowned OHL champions.

Also considered for the award this week, Anaheim Ducks prospect Beckett Sennecke produced seven points (5-2–7) in three games for the Oshawa Generals, Peterborough Petes sophomore Aiden Young (5-2–7) had a similar stat line and Calgary Flames prospect Luke Misa of the Brampton Steelheads had seven points (4-3–7) in two outings, getting in on Sunday’s 10-1 win over the Guelph Storm.

Firebirds’ Nathan Day Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Edmonton Oilers prospect Nathan Day of the Flint Firebirds is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, going 2-0-0-1 with a 0.97 goals-against average, .969 save percentage and one shutout.

Day turned aside 94 shots last week, helping the Firebirds collect five of a possible six points. He made 22 saves in Wednesday morning’s 2-1 shootout loss in Sarnia before rebounding on Friday in Guelph, turning aside 35 shots as Flint beat the Storm 7-2. Day was at his best on Saturday back at home, making 37 saves in his first career OHL shutout as the Firebirds beat Owen Sound 3-0.

A 19-year-old from Grimsby, Ont., Day is 6-4-0-1 on the season with a 2.26 goals-against average and .918 save percentage over 11 games. Day was Edmonton’s sixth-round (184th overall) pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. The former third round (57th overall) pick by Flint in 2021 is now in his fourth OHL season, owning a career mark of 50-43-1-3 with a 3.60 goals-against average, .876 save percentage and one shutout over 105 regular season games.

Also considered for the award this week, Kitchener Rangers netminder Jackson Parsons went 2-0 with a 2.49 goals-against average and .919 save percentage while Sam Hillebrandt of the Barrie Colts was also sharp, going 1-1-0-0 with a 1.51 goals-against average and .949 save percentage.

Firebirds’ Cole Zurawski Named OHL Rookie of the Week

Flint Firebirds forward Cole Zurawski is the OHL Rookie of the Week, recording two goals and two assists over three contests.

Zurawski recorded his first career multi-goal effort on Friday in Guelph, scoring twice while adding an assist as the Firebirds beat the Guelph Storm 7-2. Zurawski followed-up the second star performance with an assist as the Firebirds defeated the Owen Sound Attack at home on Saturday.

A 16-year-old from Barrie, Ont., Zurawski has recorded nine points (4-5–9) through his first 12 games of the season. The 6-foot, 181Ib. right-winger was selected by Flint with the sixth overall pick of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection. Zurawski will represent Canada White at the 2024 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge that begins on Nov. 3rd in Sarnia.

Also considered for the award this week, Owen Sound Attack forward Pierce Mbuyi recorded four points (1-3–4) in three games while Barrie Colts forward Parker Vaughan produced three (2-1–3) in as many games.

MAYER AND OSTER NAMED OHL TOP PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK

67’s’ Samuel Mayer Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Overage defenceman Samuel Mayer of the Ottawa 67’s is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording three goals and three assists in four playoff contests along with a plus/minus rating of plus-4.

Helping Ottawa skate to a 4-2 series win over the Brantford Bulldogs, Mayer registered a career-high four-point night scoring a hat-trick along with an assist in a 6-5 overtime win to earn first star honours on Thursday. The 6-foot-3, 202lb. blueliner added a pair of helpers in a 6-1 victory on Sunday, punching Ottawa’s ticket to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.

A soon-to-be 21-year-old defenceman from L’Orignal, Ont., Mayer registered 21 goals, 32 assists and 53 points in 69 regular season games played between the 67’s and the Peterborough Petes. Mayer has tallied 138 points (41-97-138) over 205 games in three seasons. Mayer was a key member in Peterborough’s playoff success last season, tallying seven points (2-5-7) in 23 playoff contests to be crowned a 2023 OHL Champion. Mayer was originally selected by Peterborough in the first round (15th overall) of the 2020 U18 OHL Priority Selection.

Also considered for the award this week, Seattle Kraken prospect David Goyette of the Sudbury Wolves helped lead his team to a 4-1 series win over the Mississauga Steelheads, recording three goals and four assists in three games played. Pano Fimis of the Erie Otters also found success, tallying a pair of goals and three helpers in three contests as the Otters currently trail 3-2 in their first round series against the Kitchener Rangers.

Generals’ Jacob Oster Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Jacob Oster of the Oshawa Generals is the OHL Goaltender of the Week for the fourth time this season, playing to a 3-1 record including a shutout, along with a 1.18 goals-against average, and .954 save percentage.

Clinching a 4-2 series win over the Barrie Colts, Oster made a total of 104 saves last week to backstop the Generals to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. Oster stopped 15 of the 16 shots that came his way on Tuesday in a 5-1 road win. He returned to the crease on Thursday, making 34 saves in a 4-3 overtime win. Oster turned away 23 of the 24 shots he faced to earn third star honours on Friday as the Generals came up short in a 3-0 loss. The 6-foot-3, 190lb. netminder closed out the series with a 32-save shutout performance to earn first star honours on Sunday, helping the Generals move on to the next round of the OHL Playoffs with a 3-0 win over the Colts.

A 20-year-old from Ottawa, Ont., Oster played to a regular season mark of 35-16-7-1, posting a 2.82 goals-against average, and .905 save percentage. Ranked first among all netminders with a 1.94 goals-against average in postseason action, Oster currently holds a 4-2-0-0 record. Selected in the fifth-round (92nd overall) by the Guelph Storm in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, the veteran goaltender has appeared in 143 career regular season contests, recording a 3.29 goals-against average and .891 save percentage over three seasons, going 68-47-12-4 in the process. Oster attended training camp with the Los Angeles Kings last September.

Also considered for the award this week, Sam Hillebrandt of the Barrie Colts went 1-1-0-1 including a shutout with a 1.84 goals-against average and .957 save percentage. Collin MacKenzie backstopped the Ottawa 67’s to a 4-2 series victory over the Brantford Bulldogs, playing to a 3-1-0-0 record along with a 2.65 goals-against average and .911 save percentage.

OHL’s Draft Eligible Goaltenders

Today we will be examining the goaltenders that will be available for the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. The list will be in the order of NHL Central Scouting’s mid-term rankings and will contain some goaltenders who are not ranked. Below, I have included a few brief thoughts.

Carter George – Owen Sound Attack – NHL Central Scouting: 1

George is an exceptional goalie with excellent technical skills. He remains calm and confident in the net, which has a positive influence on his teammates. Although he is not a big-bodied goaltender, he works hard to see the puck through traffic and has great anticipation skills. He excels at controlling rebounds and handling the puck. However, his foot speed could use some improvement, although he is quick to challenge the shooter by moving out on top of the blue paint. He could also improve his lateral movement to become more agile.

Ryerson Leenders – Mississauga Steelheads – NHL Central Scouting: 3

Leenders is a talented goaltender who often makes remarkable saves, earning him recognition as the OHL’s save of the night or week. Although he may not possess the same level of technical skill as George, Leenders’ athleticism and determination allow him to battle for every puck, like Michael DiPietro’s style of play. While he needs to improve his rebound control and ability to navigate through traffic, I am confident that with better coaching, he will continue to progress and reach his full potential.

Landon Miller – Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds – NHL Central Scouting: 17

Miller is a bigger goalie than both George and Leenders and is currently serving as a backup for the Soo. As a result, he doesn’t see as many pucks as the other guys. However, there’s no doubt that he’s the goalie of the future for the Greyhounds. In fact, at times, he has outperformed the current starter, Charlie Schenkel. Miller is an agile goalie, especially considering his size. Although he needs to work on some technical aspects of his game, such as his positioning and rebounds, coaching can easily help him with those. Overall, Miller has the potential to become an excellent goalie.

Karsen Chartier – Sarnia Sting – NHL Central Scouting: 23

It can be challenging to evaluate a goaltender like Chartier on a young and rebuilding team. Often, he is left to fend for himself, facing a significant number of high-quality scoring opportunities against him. To gain a complete understanding of his abilities, it is necessary to observe him consistently. If you only watch him on his off nights, you might miss his potential. However, if you also observe him on his good nights, you can see the skills he possesses. Chartier is a large, athletic goaltender who takes up a lot of space in the butterfly position. Although his technical game requires some fine-tuning, he has the potential to improve with the right guidance.

Zachary Bowen – Peterborough Petes – NHL Central Scouting: 30

Bowen is a draft re-entry with a save percentage of less than .900 in his OHL career. However, he faces a lot of shots on goal and has a calm demeanor that keeps him from getting rattled. Bowen has good glove and blocker hands with quick reflexes. He is quick to move out of the net to the top of the paint and is also fast post-to-post. Although his technique is a work in progress, he has the potential to improve his rebound control.

Sam Hillebrandt – Barrie Colts

Many people were surprised when he received an invitation to Team USA camp for the WJC and was expected to be named the third goalie. However, he demonstrated the right attitude when he said, “My main goal is to just go there and win the number one job.” He has proven people wrong at every level, moving from Junior C to the OHL to the WJC in short order. Despite his size, he compensates with excellent positioning and technical skills. His movements are fluid and controlled, but he needs to work on his rebound control and become stronger on second-chance opportunities.

Owen Willmore – London Knights

As difficult as it is to judge a young goaltender like Chartier on a young and rebuilding squad, perhaps it’s just as difficult doing the same with a young goaltender such as Willmore on a powerhouse London Knights team. Willmore came to the forefront in last year’s playoffs after injuries forced him into action. That was also his first year of draft eligibility. The youngster’s poise, calmness, and confidence exuded from him, and it carried over to this season. A big goaltender who is positionally sound and athletic, he isn’t on many people’s draft list the second time around.

GREENTREE AND HILLEBRANDT NAMED OHL TOP PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK

Spitfires’ Liam Greentree Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

2024 NHL Draft-eligible forward Liam Greentree of the Windsor Spitfires is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, contributing three goals, four assists and seven points while registering a plus-6 rating in two games.

Greentree recorded a career-high six-point night with three goals and three assists on Saturday, being named the game’s first star as the Spitfires defeated the Peterborough Petes 8-2. He found the scoresheet again on Sunday, registering an assist in a 5-2 loss to the Saginaw Spirit.

A recently turned 18-year-old from Oshawa, Ont., the 6-foot-2, 198lb. forward ranks eighth among all OHL point-getters, recording 64 (27-37–64) through 41 outings as the Spitfires own a record of 14-27-3-1 on the season. Selected in the second-round (34th overall) by Windsor in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection, Greentree has put up 52 goals, 57 assists and 109 points in 102 regular season contests. Rated 12th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting ahead of the 2024 NHL Draft, Greentree recently represented Team White at the Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game held in Moncton, NB last week, registering the team’s sole marker.

Also considered for the award this week, Winnipeg Jets prospect Colby Barlow of the Owen Sound Attack recorded seven points (4-3–7) in three games. Dalyn Wakely of the North Bay Battalion also had a standout week, registering two goals and five assists in three games.

Colts’ Sam Hillebrandt Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Sam Hillebrandt of the Barrie Colts is the OHL Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season following a pair of wins with a 2.40 goals-against average and .940 save percentage.

Stopping a total of 78 shots last week, Hillebrandt turned aside 38 of the 41 attempts he faced on Thursday as Barrie defeated the Owen Sound Attack 7-3. The 6-foot-1, 166lb. netminder was back in the crease with a 40-save performance on Saturday, stopping all four shootout attempts that came his way to earn first star honours in a 3-2 shootout win over the Oshawa Generals as the Colts improved to 18-24-1-0 on the season.

An 18-year-old from Riverview, Florida., Hillebrandt owns a season mark of 11-11-0-0, posting a 3.29 goals-against average and .907 save percentage. Originally hailing from Michigan, Hillebrandt played in the Detroit Little Caesars AAA program before moving to Florida. He won a gold medal with the United States National Junior Team at the 2024 World Juniors in Sweden. The Colts signed Hillebrandt as a free agent ahead of the 2022-23 season after he spent the  2021-22 season with the Florida Alliance North 16U organization.

Also in the running for the award this week, Nathan Day of the Flint Firebirds played to a 2-0 record, with a 2.36 goals-against average, and .917 save percentage. Charlie Schenkel of the Soo Greyhounds was solid in the crease, playing to a 2-0 mark with a 2.00 goals-against average and .923 save percentage.

Greyhounds’ Kirill Kudryavtsev Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Vancouver Canucks prospect Kirill Kudryavtsev of the Soo Greyhounds is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, scoring two goals and four assists while registering a plus-4 rating in three games.

Starting off the week with a point on Wednesday, Kudryatsev tallied an assist as the Greyhounds fell 6-3 to the Flint Firebirds at home. Helping the Hounds bounce back on Friday night, the 6-foot, 202lb. blueliner went on to win first star honours, tallying a goal and an assist in a 5-4 win over the Saginaw Spirit. Kudryatsev would again receive first star honours on Saturday, recording the overtime winner along with a pair of helpers as the Greyhounds defeated the Firebirds 6-5 to climb to second place in the Western Conference standings.

The 19-year-old blueliner ranks fourth among OHL defencemen, recording three goals,12 assists, and 15 points over 14 games this season. Vancouver’s seventh round (208th overall) pick in the 2022 NHL Draft has recorded 104 points (16-88–104) in 149 career OHL regular season games with the Greyhounds after being chosen sixth overall by the club in the 2021 CHL Import Draft. Kudryavtsev signed a three-year entry-level NHL contract with Vancouver on Mar. 10, 2023.

Also considered for the award this week, 2024 NHL Draft prospect Jett Luchanko of the Guelph Storm recorded a pair of goals and four assists in three games played. Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Braeden Kressler of the Flint Firebirds was also a big contributor, tallying three goals and three assists, along with a plus-5 rating over three games.

Colts’ Sam Hillebrandt Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Sam Hillebrandt of the Barrie Colts is the OHL Goaltender of the Week following a pair of wins with a 1.00 goals-against average and .971 save percentage.

Stopping a total of 67 shots last week, Hillebrandt turned aside 34 of the 35 attempts that came his way on Friday as Barrie defeated the first place Mississauga Steelheads 6-1. The 6-foot-1, 166lb. netminder was back in the crease on Saturday, stopping 33 of the 34 shots he faced to earn first star honours in a 5-1 win over the Brantford Bulldogs as the Colts improved to 6-6-0-0 on the season.
