EIGHT OHL PLAYERS TO REPRESENT CANADA AT 2021 WORLD JUNIORS

Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League is pleased to congratulate eight OHL players on being named to Canada’s National Junior Team that will compete in the 2021 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship from December 25, 2020 to January 5, 2021 in Edmonton, Alta.

Following a 26-day selection camp that was interrupted by a mandatory two-week quarantine, 25 players have been named to the final roster including three goaltenders, eight defencemen and 14 forwards.

Three returning OHL players won gold at the 2020 World Juniors including Quinton Byfield (Newmarket, Ont./Sudbury Wolves), Jamie Drysdale (Toronto, Ont./Erie Otters) and Connor McMichael (Ajax, Ont./London Knights).

Joining the three OHL returnees on the roster are defenceman Thomas Harley (Jamesville, N.Y., Mississauga Steelheads) and forwards Cole Perfetti (Pickering, Ont./Saginaw Spirit), Jack Quinn (Cobden, Ont./Ottawa 67’s), Ryan Suzuki (London, Ont./Saginaw Spirit) and Philip Tomasino (Mississauga, Ont./Oshawa Generals).

Back-to-back OHL Coach of the Year Andre Tourigny (Nicolet, Que./Ottawa 67’s) will serve as head coach of Team Canada. He’s joined on staff by 67’s equipment manager Chris Hamilton (Ottawa, Ont./Ottawa 67’s).

The final roster was selected by Scott Salmond (Creston, B.C.), senior vice-president of national teams for Hockey Canada, with assistance from Alan Millar (Tottenham, Ont./Moose Jaw, WHL), the U20 lead for the Program of Excellence management group, and Ben Shutron (Orleans, Ont.), manager of national teams for Hockey Canada. Tourigny and assistant coaches Tyler Dietrich (West Vancouver, B.C./Saskatoon, WHL), Michael Dyck (Lethbridge, Alta./Vancouver, WHL) and Mitch Love (Quesnel, B.C./Saskatoon, WHL) also provided input into the final roster selections.

“This camp has been unconventional from the outset with the number of players invited and the length of camp, along with the schedule adjustment due to our two-week shutdown, but we feel we have selected a group that will give us the best chance to defend our gold medal on home ice,” said Millar. “It is never easy making decisions to trim down a roster, especially when every player handled adversity, faced challenges head on and remained committed to the process through our off-ice workouts and Zoom sessions. We have a lot of people to thank, including the people of Red Deer, the Red Deer Rebels (WHL) and Alberta Health Services, who worked with us to always ensure the health and safety of our athletes, staff and the community at large, and we look forward to representing Canada in Edmonton.”

The 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship begins on Christmas Day with three games before Canada kicks off its tournament schedule on Dec. 26 against Germany at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT. TSN and RDS, the official broadcast partners of Hockey Canada, will broadcast all 28 tournament games and the 10 pre-tournament games that begin Dec. 20. TSN Radio will also provide comprehensive tournament coverage, including all Team Canada pre-tournament and tournament games through to the gold medal game.

Canada has captured 18 gold medals at the IIHF World Junior Championship (1982, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2015, 2018, 2020), in addition to 11 silver (1975, 1976, 1977, 1986, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2010, 2011, 2017) and six bronze (1974, 1978, 1983, 2000, 2001, 2012).

16 OHL Players Recognized as Invitees to Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp

Calgary, Atla. – The Ontario Hockey League is pleased to announce that 16 OHL players have been invited to attend Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp.

The camp roster features two OHL goaltenders, three defencemen and 26 forwards as part of the 41-player roster that will attend the five-day virtual camp taking place July 27-31. The camp will feature various online education sessions with a focus on player development. Hockey Canada announced last month that various programming and training sessions will be held virtually this summer due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“We are excited to begin preparations for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship with this group of 41 players and our full staff at our online camp, as we believe we have a good mix of veteran leadership and young talent that are eager to represent Canada during the holiday season,” said Scott Salmond, senior vice-president of national teams for Hockey Canada. “We are also pleased to have Michael and Mitch round out the coaching staff, as their Canadian Hockey League and international experience will compliment André’s leadership while we work towards defending our gold medal on home ice.”

The roster for Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp includes three OHL skaters who helped Canada win gold at the 2020 World Juniors (Byfield, Drysdale, McMichael), six OHL players who were selected at the 2019 NHL Draft (Harley, Clarke, McMichael, Rees, Suzuki, Tomasino), eight OHL players who are eligible for the 2020 NHL Draft (Brochu, Drysdale, O’Rourke, Byfield, Foerster, Perfetti, Perreault, Quinn), one who is eligible in 2021 (Lennox) and one who is eligible in 2022 (Wright).

As announced earlier this year, Ottawa 67’s head coach André Tourigny will return to Canada’s National Junior Team and serve as head coach after helping Canada to a gold medal as an assistant coach at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship. He was named head coach of the OHL’s 67’s in 2017 and has helped them claim the Hamilton Spectator Trophy twice as back-to-back regular season champions. Tourigny was recently awarded the Matt Leyden Trophy as the OHL’s Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season and was named the CHL Brian Kilrea Coach of the Year presented by Janes.

The 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship is set to take place in Edmonton and Red Deer this December.

OHL ANNOUNCES TOP PERFORMERS OF THE MONTH FOR JANUARY

Top Performers January

Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the Top OHL Performers of the Month for regular season games played in January 2020, including Oshawa Generals forward Philip Tomasino, Ottawa 67’s defenceman Noel Hoefenmayer and London Knights goaltender Brett Brochu.

OHL Player of the Month – Philip Tomasino (Oshawa Generals):
Nashville Predators prospect Philip Tomasino of the Oshawa Generals is the OHL Player of the Month for January, posting a league-leading 34 points including 15 goals and 19 assists over just 13 games.  Tomasino recorded three points or more on seven different occasions and earned star of the game recognition in nine of his 13 outings, 10 of which came as a member of the Oshawa Generals following a trade from the Niagara IceDogs. He wrapped up his tenure in Niagara with 10 points over his final three contests including a five-point showing (1-4–5) in a 9-8 win over North Bay on Jan. 2nd. He followed that up two nights later with four points (2-2–4), setting up the OT winner as the IceDogs defeated the Kitchener Rangers 7-6 on Jan. 4th. Tomasino started his time as an Oshawa General with a bang on Jan. 9th in Windsor, registering five points (2-3–5) in a 6-3 triumph over the Spitfires. That performance was followed by back-to-back two-goal outings on Jan. 10th in Sarnia and Jan. 12th back on home ice against the Peterborough Petes, helping Tomasino earn OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week honours. Other outstanding January performances included another four-point effort (2-2–4) on Jan. 20th in Owen Sound as he set up the winning goal in a 5-4 victory over the Attack. He wrapped up January with three consecutive multi-point outings headlined by a goal and three assists on Jan. 25th in a 7-4 win over the Kingston Frontenacs on Sportsnet.

An 18-year-old native of Mississauga, Ont., Tomasino leads the Generals in scoring this season with 83 points (34-49–83) over 48 games, good for the league’s fourth-highest total. Now in his third OHL season, the former fifth overall pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection has amassed 179 points (73-106–179) over 176 career regular season games. He was the highest-drafted OHL forward at last summer’s 2019 NHL Draft, going 24th overall to the Nashville Predators who signed him to a three-year entry level NHL contract on October 21st.

OHL Defenceman of the Month – Noel Hoefenmayer (Ottawa 67’s):
Ottawa 67’s overage defenceman Noel Hoefenmayer has been named OHL Defenceman of the Month for the third time this season. The fifth-year veteran led all rearguards with 18 points including three goals and 15 assists over 13 games to go with a plus/minus rating of plus-13. Hoefenmayer recorded points in 11 of his 13 January outings including three assists on Jan. 18th against the Hamilton Bulldogs, a two-goal showing on Jan. 25th against the Niagara IceDogs and a goal and one helper on Jan. 30th on the road against the same IceDogs. Hoefenmayer helped the 67’s rise to the top of the Kia CHL Top 10 Rankings with wins in 13 of 14 January contests. He wrapped up the month on an eight-game point streak.

A 21-year-old native of North York, Ont., Hoefenmayer leads OHL defenders with 67 points including 19 goals and 48 assists along with a plus/minus rating of plus-44 over 46 games. The 6-foot-1 rearguard has been a big contributor on Ottawa’s top-ranked 30.6% power play this season, registering 32 points on the man advantage. A fifth-year veteran, Hoefenmayer is currently inside the franchise top-8 for both career points by a defenceman (207) and career games played (286). His 19 goals from the back end are the most in a single season by a 67’s defenceman since Jon Zion in 2000-01. Hoefenmayer was a fourth round pick of the Arizona Coyotes in the 2017 NHL Draft before going unsigned and attended rookie camp with the Carolina Hurricanes in September. Hoefenmayer was a second round pick of the 67’s in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection.

OHL Goaltender & Rookie of the Month – Brett Brochu (London Knights):
London Knights netminder Brett Brochu is both the OHL Goaltender and OHL Rookie of the Month for January after posting an impressive 9-0-0-0 record along with a 1.89 goals-against average and .940 save percentage in nine games. Brochu made at least 30 saves on four different occasions highlighted by a 40-save effort on Jan. 3rd as the Knights defeated the Mississauga Steelheads 3-1. He surrendered just one goal in back-to-back games on Jan. 12th in Sault Ste. Marie and Jan. 17th at home to the Sudbury Wolves before turning in another fine performance with 35 saves in a 4-1 defeat of the Hamilton Bulldogs on Jan. 24th. Brochu closed out January on an 11-game winning streak.

A 17-year-old native of Tilbury, Ont., Brochu leads OHL rookie goaltenders with a 2.52 goals-against average, a .916 save percentage and a record of 21-5-0-0, becoming the first Knights rookie to win 20 games in a season since Ryan MacDonald back in 2003-04. The 5-foot-11, 156Ib. puckstopper was London’s sixth round pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. He spent last season with the Dresden Kings Jr. C club, earning PJHL Stobbs Division Rookie of the Year honours.

FIREBIRDS’ TY DELLANDREA NAMED OHL ‘ON THE RUN’ PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Dallas Stars prospect Ty Dellandrea of the Flint Firebirds is the OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week with 10 points including six goals and four assists over three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-7.

Dellandrea claims the honour for the second time this season, helping the Firebirds skate to a perfect 3-0 week with wins over Sault Ste. Marie and Guelph. The fourth-year captain scored twice and added two assists in Wednesday’s 7-4 road win over the Greyhounds, netting the third period game winner while earning second star honours. He picked up where he left off on Friday, recording two goals and an assist to register his 200th career OHL point in a 7-5 road win over the Storm. Friday’s first star performance paved the way for another strong outing back on home ice Saturday night as Dellandrea once again scored twice and tallied an assist in a 4-1 win over the visiting Storm to garner second star recognition. The dependable centreman went 37-for-69 (53.6%) in the faceoff circle as the Firebirds extended their winning streak to four games, securing a four-point cushion on fifth place in the Western Conference.

A 19-year-old native of Port Perry, Ont., Dellandrea leads the Firebirds with 57 points (26-31–57) over 35 games this season. He’s registered four consecutive two-goal outings and racked up 15 points (8-7–15) over his last four games. The recent Canadian National Junior Team gold medalist boasts a franchise-leading 203 points (88-115–203) over his 219-game OHL regular season career. Dellandrea was originally Flint’s first round (5th overall) pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection. The Dallas Stars selected him in the first round (13th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the award this week were Oshawa Generals forward Philip Tomasino who put up 10 points (4-6–10) over four games as well as Barrie Colts netminder Arturs Silovs, who went 2-0 with a 0.98 goals-against average, .964 save percentage and his first career OHL shutout.

The Mississauga Steelheads have received a commitment from 2018 12th round OHL Priority Selection choice Rylan Bowers. The 17-year-old has appeared in 33 games with the Listowel Cyclones (GOJHL) this season and registered 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists). The Komoka, Ontario native was selected to represent his minor hockey association at the OHL Gold Cup in 2018, where he recorded 1 point (1 goal) over 4 games.

The Sudbury Wolves announced prior to Sunday’s game against Mississauga that Quinton Byfield will serve as an alternate captain with the club. Byfield recently returned from the World Junior Championship where he won gold with Team Canada. DeBoer takes over as head coach in Vegas: The Vegas Golden Knights hired former two-time OHL Coach of the Year Peter DeBoer as their new head coach on Wednesday, replacing Gerard Gallant behind the bench. DeBoer, who began the season as head coach of the San Jose Sharks, takes over at the helm in Vegas with a Golden Knights club that is currently 24-19-6 for fifth in the Pacific Division. The 51-year-old native of Dunnville, Ont. coached in the OHL from 1993-2008, winning three OHL Championships and a Memorial Cup along the way. He’s worked in the NHL since 2008-09, holding down jobs with Florida, New Jersey, San Jose and now Vegas.

Spezza plays in 1100th NHL contest: OHL graduate Jason Spezza suited up in his 1,100th career NHL game on Tuesday, recording an assist as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the New Jersey Devils 7-4. The 36-year-old Spezza has played parts of 17 NHL seasons since he was the second overall pick by the Ottawa Senators in the 2001 NHL Draft. Spezza, who played in the OHL as an underage player, played five seasons between Brampton, Mississauga, Windsor and Belleville from 1998-2002. He’s accumulated 933 points (338-595–933) over his 1,100 game NHL regular season career.

Wilson becomes youngest forward in Caps franchise history to play 500 games: OHL graduate Tom Wilson suited up in his 500th career NHL contest on Monday, becoming the youngest forward in Capitals franchise history to do so. The 25-year-old Toronto, Ont. native had an assist as the Caps defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 2-0. Wilson was Washington’s first round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft. The big power winger played three OHL seasons with the Plymouth Whalers from 2010-13, recording 91 points (35-56–91) over 125 regular season games. Wilson has 31 points (13-18–31) over 46 games in Washington this season.

Bunnaman scores first NHL goal: Former Kitchener Rangers captain Connor Bunnaman scored his first career NHL goal with the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday. The 21-year-old from Guelph, Ont. has appeared in six games with the Flyers this season after registering five points (4-1–5) through 21 games with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Bunnaman, who was Philadelphia’s fourth round pick in 2016, played four seasons in Kitchener from 2014-18.

Smith scores first NHL goal: Kitchener Rangers graduate Givani Smith scored his first career NHL goal on Tuesday. The Detroit Red Wings forward found the back of the net in a loss to the New York Islanders. Smith has played in 11 games and recorded a pair of points in the process. The former second round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft spent last season and the beginning of this season with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. He played four OHL seasons between the Barrie Colts, Guelph Storm and Kitchener Rangers from 2014-18.

Griffith taking his best shots in AHL: London Knights graduate Seth Griffith got some good advice from his dad Brian over the offseason, getting to work on improving his shot. The 27-year-old Wallaceburg, Ont. native has racked up 32 points, including 18 goals over 39 games with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose this season, affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets. Griffith, who won back-to-back OHL Championships in London in 2012 and 2013, has now spent seven seasons in the pro ranks, appearing in 79 NHL contests along the way. KEY MATCHUPS:

Sudbury Wolves at London Knights
Friday, January 17th

The Central Division leaders are heading to London on Friday, with Sudbury hungry for what could be their first win over the London Knights in five years.

Newest member of the Wolves, Matej Pekar, has proven to be a strong addition. His welcome party last weekend included seven points in three games, notably five assists in Friday’s 8-2 blowout of the North Bay Battalion.

Since rejoining the lineup following his gold medal performance at the World Juniors, newly appointed alternate captain Quinton Byfield put up six points of his own last weekend, and also put forth a five-point showing in front of the Troops that saw two goals and three assists, earning him OHL first star honours on the night.

With regards to the guys in green, Connor McMichael will look to follow up on last weekend’s flashy performance. His seven point total over the course of a three-in-three included a hat trick in Saturday’s tilt against Saginaw, as well as a flashy between-the-legs display in one of two goals he put past the Soo Greyhounds as part of a 7-1 victory. Columbus Blue Jackets draftee Liam Foudy and San Jose Sharks first rounder Ryan Merkley both put up six points.

The Knights, who tie the Kitchener Rangers at 54 points and just one point back of the Western Conference leading Windsor Spitfires, hold a 9-0-0-0 record over the course of the last five seasons against the Wolves. This will be the second and final meetup of the two clubs this season.

Saginaw Spirit at Windsor Spitfires
Sunday, January 19th

It’s a tilt we’re familiar with. The battle of the top of the West Division will see the visiting Saginaw Spirit face off against the conference-leading Windsor Spitfires Sunday afternoon.

The Spits took lead of the conference once again following their overtime win over the Kitchener Rangers, who trail just one point back of first in the Midwest. Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Tyler Angle continues to lead all Windsor skaters with 46 points (21-25-46) to his name, and Nashville Predators pick Egor Afanasyev, last Sunday’s overtime hero, sits directly behind with 45 points (18-27-45).

Over on Saginaw’s side, New York Islanders prospect Cole Coskey will be skating in off a five-goal weekend, and top NHL Draft prospect Cole Perfetti will look to see his point streak reach a 12th game.

The sixth of eight matchups on the season, both clubs are no stranger to the depth on either side. The Spits will, however, see a new opponent in Carolina Hurricanes prospect Ryan Suzuki, who joined the Spirit last week and registered three assists in two games.

The Spirit currently hold a 3-2-0-0 tally against the Spits. Last season’s eight-game regular season series between the two proved to be an even one, with a 4-4-0-0 record on Windsor’s side and a 4-3-1-0 record in favour of Saginaw.

Vaughn CHL Team of the Week

The Canadian Hockey League today announced the 16th edition of the Vaughn CHL Team of the Week for the 2019-20 season based on individual performances from Jan. 6-12.

Leading the forward ranks is Oshawa Generals centre and Nashville Predators first-round pick Philip Tomasino who tallied 10 points counting six goals and four assists over three contests. Tomasino made the most of his debut with the Generals, putting up two goals and three assists for five points in Thursday’s 6-3 road victory over the Windsor Spitfires that saw him recognized as the game’s first star. For his effort, Tomasino was honoured as the OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week.

Also up front is Portland Winterhawks centre and 2020 NHL Draft hopeful Seth Jarvis who tallied 10 points counting two goals and eight assists across three appearances. Against the Victoria Royals on Saturday, Jarvis impressed with a career-best five-point performance that saw him notch one goal with four assists en route to 6-5 overtime victory. The successful showing helped Jarvis earn recognition as the WHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week.

Rounding out the forward ranks is Saginaw Spirit right-wing and New York Islanders draft pick Cole Coskey who shined with six goals and one assist for seven points over a trio of contests. Currently riding a five-game point streak, that stretch included his second career hat-trick in a 6-5 win versus the London Knights in which he claimed first-star recognition.

On the blue line, London Knights rearguard and San Jose Sharks first rounder Ryan Merkley led the way with six points counting three goals and three assists over a trio of games. Against the Barrie Colts on Friday, Merkley matched a season high with three points as he put up a pair of goals plus one assist en route to a 5-2 victory that earned him first-star honours.

Also on the back end is Spokane Chiefs defenceman and Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Filip Kral who wrapped up the week with five points counting one goal and four assists over three contests. Registering at least one point in each of his last four showings, that stretch included a one-goal, one-assist performance versus the Vancouver Giants on Saturday to help guide his squad to a 6-3 road win.

Between the pipes, Gatineau Olympiques netminder and 2020 NHL Draft prospect Remi Poirier was unbeatable across two showings as he combined for 70 saves and back-to-back shutouts versus the Victoriaville Tigres and Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. Poirier’s top performance came in his most recent contest as he turned aside 37 shots Sunday versus the Armada en route to a 4-0 victory and first-star honours. For his efforts, Poirier was recognized as the Ultramar QMJHL Player of the Week.

GENERALS’ PHILIP TOMASINO NAMED OHL ‘ON THE RUN’ PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Nashville Predators prospect Philip Tomasino of the Oshawa Generals is the OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week with a league-leading 10 points including six goals and four assists over three games.

Tomasino earns the award for the second time this season after making his mark in his first weekend as a General. He put up three consecutive two-goal performances in wins over Windsor, Sarnia and Peterborough. The third-year centreman earned first star honours in his Generals debut on Thursday in Windsor, helping Oshawa defeat the CHL’s eighth-ranked Spitfires 6-3 with two goals, three assists and five points. He picked up where he left off on Friday in Sarnia, scoring twice to earn first star honours as the Generals defeated the Sting 4-3. Tomasino and the Generals returned home on Sunday night to wrap-up a perfect weekend as he scored twice and added an assist in a 6-4 win over the rival Peterborough Petes, claiming second star recognition. Tomasino extended his current point streak to 10 games as the Generals defeated the Petes for the first time this season.

An 18-year-old native of Mississauga, Ont., Tomasino is Oshawa’s leading scorer with 67 points (28-39–67) over 39 games this season. The 6-foot, 180Ib. pivot has amassed 163 points (67-96–163) over 167 career regular season games after being selected by the Niagara IceDogs with the fifth overall pick of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection. Tomasino, who has represented Canada internationally at both the IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championship as well as the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, was the first OHL forward selected at the 2019 NHL Draft, going 24th overall to the Nashville Predators.

Also considered for the award this week were New York Islanders prospect Cole Coskey of the Saginaw Spirit who had six goals and seven points over three contests as well as Washington Capitals first round pick Connor McMichael of the London Knights who scored five times and had seven points over three games.

Vaughn CHL Team of the Week

The Canadian Hockey League today announced the 15th edition of the Vaughn CHL Team of the Week for the 2019-20 season based on individual performances from Dec. 30 – Jan. 5.

Headlining the forward ranks is Winnipeg ICE right-wing and 2020 NHL Draft hopeful Connor McClennon who collected 11 points counting four goals and seven assists through four appearances. McClennon’s most impressive showing came in a season-high four-point night versus the Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday in which he finished with one goal and three assists in the 6-1 road victory that saw him recognized as the game’s second star. For his efforts, McClennon was honoured as the WHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week.

Also up front is Minnesota Wild prospect Ivan Lodnia of the Niagara IceDogs who put up three goals and eight assists for 11 points in four contests. Against the North Bay Battalion on Thursday, Lodnia had a career-best showing as he registered two goals and four assists for six points including the primary helper on the game winner in the 9-8 overtime decision, helping him earn first-star recognition.

Rounding out the forward ranks is Lodnia’s IceDogs teammate in Nashville Predators first round pick Philip Tomasino who matched his efforts with three goals and eight assists for 11 points in four games. Like Lodnia, Tomasino dominated versus the Battalion as he wrapped up the Thursday contest with a five-point effort counting one goal and four assists en route to third-star honours.

On the back end, leading the pack is newly acquired Blainville-Boisbriand Armada blue-liner Yann-Felix Lapointe who totaled six points counting two goals and four assists across a trio of appearances. Against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Tuesday, Lapointe impressed with a season-high four-point performance as he finished with one goal and three assists in the 8-1 victory that earned him third-star honours.

Also on the blue line is Calgary Hitmen rearguard and Vancouver Canucks prospect Jett Woo who registered one goal and five assists for six points through five games. That stretch included a one-goal, one-assist showing versus the rival Edmonton Oil Kings on Monday in which Woo drew a helper on the eventual game-winning goal in the 5-3 victory.

Backstopping the group is Brandon Wheat Kings netminder and Vegas Golden Knights prospect Jiri Patera who was nearly perfect across three showings in which he finished with a trio of victories alongside a 0.33 goals-against average and .989 save percentage. The stretch saw Patera record a pair of shutouts while turning aside a combined 94 of 95 shots, with his top performance coming in a 31-save shutout versus the Regina Pats on Sunday. For his efforts, Patera was recognized as the WHL Eli Wilson Goaltending Goaltender of the Week.

RANGERS’ JACOB INGHAM NAMED OHL ‘ON THE RUN’ PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Los Angeles Kings prospect Jacob Ingham of the Kitchener Rangers is the OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week with a 3-0 record, 1.33 goals-against average and a .964 save percentage.

Ingham receives the honour for the second time this season, turning aside 108 of the 112 shots that came his way as the Rangers defeated Erie, Saginaw and Guelph. The 6-foot-4, 198Ib. goaltender earned star of the game recognition in all three outings, kicking things off with a 35-save effort in Erie on New Year’s Eve as the Rangers skated to a 6-1 victory. He returned to the crease on Friday, stopping 33 of 35 while picking up an assist on Jonathan Yantsis’ game winning goal as the Blueshirts doubled-up visiting Saginaw 4-2. Ingham finished off the weekend in fine style, making 40 saves in a 2-1 road win over the rival Guelph Storm to pull the Rangers into a first place tie atop the Midwest Division with 49 points.

A 19-year-old from Barrie, Ont., Ingham owns an 18-4-2-1 record with a 2.52 goals-against average and .929 save percentage with two shutouts over 25 appearances this season. He earned OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week honours for the week of Dec. 10-15 and was recently named OHL Goaltender of the Month for December, helping Kitchener win eight in a row to begin the month. Now in his fourth OHL season, the former Mississauga Steelheads netminder owns a career record of 78-57-7-8 with a 3.19 goals-against average and .898 save percentage with five shutouts over 156 regular season games. He was originally Mississauga’s second round pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection and was chosen by Los Angeles in the sixth round of the 2018 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the award this week were Niagara IceDogs teammates Ivan Lodnia and Philip Tomasino, who each finished with three goals, eight assists and 11 points over four contests as their club earned a pair of high-scoring overtime wins.

ICEDOGS’ PHILIP TOMASINO NAMED OHL ‘ON THE RUN’ PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Toronto, Ont.  – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Nashville Predators prospect Philip Tomasino of the Niagara IceDogs is the OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week for the week of regular season action ending October 6 with three goals, four assists and seven points in two games.

• HIGHLIGHTS: Tomasino records career-high six points in victory

Tomasino recorded an assist in Niagara’s 5-4 loss to visiting Saginaw on Thursday before tying an IceDogs franchise record with six points including his first career OHL hat-trick in Friday’s 8-4 win over the Kingston Frontenacs. Tomasino scored once in each period, recording seven shots on goal while capping his hat-trick 7:25 into the third frame. His three assists helped linemate Kyen Sopa score his first career trio in the decisive home ice victory.

Tomasino joins David Pacan as just the second Niagara IceDogs player to ever put up six points in a single game, doing so for the first time since March 5, 2011.

An 18-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., Tomasino is off to a strong start with 15 points (5-10–15) spread out over six of his seven contests. The former fifth overall pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection was chosen 24th overall by the Nashville Predators this past summer after he registered 72 points (34-38–72) over 67 games in 2018-19. The Mississauga Rebels Minor Midget graduate also represented Canada at the 2019 IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Sweden, recording five points (1-4–5) over six contests.

Also considered for the award this week was Sudbury Wolves forward David Levin whose seven points (1-6–7) helped his team win a pair of games this past weekend. Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Nick Robertson of the Peterborough Petes also had a productive week, recording seven points (4-3–7) over three contests as the Petes went 2-1 on the road.
