Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League today announced Top Performers of the Week for the week of regular season games ending Sunday, February 19, 2023.



Sting’s Nolan Burke Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Nashville Predators prospect Nolan Burke of the Sarnia Sting is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, scoring five goals and adding three assists for eight points as the Sting collected five of a possible six points last week.

Burke’s week began with a career-high four-goal performance on Wednesday, marking Burke’s third hat-trick of the campaign as the Sting trounced the visiting Guelph Storm 9-1. Burke scored a second period power play goal and added an assist on Sasha Pastujov’s game winner in Friday’s 3-2 road win over the London Knights that was aired before a national audience on TSN. He had a pair of helpers on Saturday as the Sting saw their lead slip away as the Knights took the back-end of the home-and-home 4-3 in overtime.

A 20-year-old from Peterborough, Ont., Burke has built off last year’s breakout campaign with career-highs of 36 goals and 61 points in 43 games this season. He’s scored the League’s second-highest total of 17 power play goals this season, and owns career figures of 76 goals, 57 assists and 133 points in 164 regular season games with Sarnia. The Sting selected Burke in the fourth round (79th overall) of the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. He signed a three-year, entry-level NHL contract with the Nashville Predators on Nov. 14, 2022.

Also considered for the award this week, Barrie Colts overage forward Evan Vierling produced six goals, two assists and eight points in three contests last week. Saginaw defenceman Mitchell Smith contributed a goal and six assists as the Spirit strung together three straight road wins.

Spirit’s Tristan Lennox Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

New York Islanders prospect Tristan Lennox of the Saginaw Spirit is the OHL Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season, going 3-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and .926 save percentage.

Lennox backstopped the Spirit to three straight victories on the road last week, helping them maintain home ice advantage in the Western Conference playoff picture. He helped the Spirit defeat the Soo Greyhounds 6-2 on Wednesday, making 29 saves, following that up with another 21 saves on Friday as the Spirit bested the Guelph Storm 4-2. Lennox wrapped-up his solid performance on Saturday in Owen Sound, making 25 saves as Saginaw defeated the Attack 3-2 at the Bayshore.

A 20-year-old from Cambridge, Ont., Lennox is 22-13-1-1 this season with a 3.24 goals-against average, .882 save percentage and two shutouts in 38 games. His 56 career wins are the fifth-most in Spirit franchise history as the former second round (26th overall) pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection has played to a career mark of 56-43-4-3 with a 3.29 goals-against average, .885 save percentage and three shutouts in 114 games. Lennox is the only remaining member of the Spirit who reached the Western Conference Championship Series with the club back in 2019. He was a third round (93rd overall) pick by the New York Islanders in 2021 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the award this week, San Jose Sharks prospect Ben Gaudreau helped the Sarnia Sting gather five of a possible six points, going 2-0-1-0 with a 2.30 goals-against average and .929 save percentage.

Knights’ Sean McGurn Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

London Knights forward Sean McGurn is the OHL Player of the Week, leading all players with 13 points including five goals and eight assists in four games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-8.

McGurn helped the Knights extend their current winning streak to eight games, producing four consecutive multi-point outings last week. McGurn helped London rack up nine goals on Monday, recording three goals and three assists for a career-high six points in a 9-5 win over visiting Flint. McGurn was back on the scoresheet Wednesday night, recording a goal and an assist as the Knights came back to edge the Kitchener Rangers 5-4 at home. He replicated that stat line Friday, scoring once and adding an assist as the Knights bested the visiting Erie Otters 8-1. McGurn rounded-out the week with three assists in Saturday’s 5-1 road win over the Guelph Storm, giving him a club-leading 68 points (24-44–68) in 50 games.

A 20-year-old from Ottawa, Ont., McGurn is in his third season with the Knights after recording 20 goals, 53 assists and 73 points last season. The 5-foot-11, 182Ib. co-captain has accumulated 45 goals, 99 assists and 144 points in 154 career regular season games after being selected by London in the third round (53rd overall) of the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. McGurn attended rookie camp with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent invite this past September.

Also considered for the award this week, Knights teammate Ruslan Gazizov produced a goal and nine assists in four games, including a career-best seven points (1-6–7) on Monday against Flint. Firebirds forward and Detroit Red Wings prospect Amadeus Lombardi was also excellent, producing 10 points (4-6–10) in four games last week.

Knights’ Zach Bowen Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

London Knights rookie netminder Zach Bowen is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, playing to a 3-0 record with a 2.70 goals-against average and .920 save percentage.

Following an abbreviated start in a game the Knights would go on to win on Monday at home to Flint, Bowen strung together three straight victories to extend his current run of consecutive wins to 13. He turned aside 31 shots on Wednesday as London staged a late comeback to defeat the Kitchener Rangers 5-4. With Brett Brochu out with an injury, Bowen returned to the crease on Friday, stopping 32 of 33 to earn first star honours in an 8-1 win over the Erie Otters. He was solid again on Saturday in Guelph, making 25 saves as the Knights defeated the Storm 5-1.

A 17-year-old from Kanata, Ont., Bowen owns a record of 14-1-0-0 in his first OHL season, posting a 2.58 goals-against average and .915 save percentage with one shutout over 18 games. The 6-foot-2, 180Ib. puck stopper hasn’t lost a game since Oct. 22nd in Saginaw. Bowen was selected by the Knights in the fourth round (77th overall) from the Embrun Panthers of the EOJHL last spring. He was listed as the 29th-ranked North American goaltender on NHL Central Scouting’s midseason rankings released on Jan. 13th.

Also considered for the award this week, Mississauga Steelheads rookie Ryerson Leenders went 2-0 with a 2.17 goals-against average and .923 save percentage in victories over Owen Sound and Sudbury. Joey Costanzo also played to a 2-0 mark with a 2.50 goals-against average and .921 save percentage for the West Division-leading Windsor Spitfires.

Spitfires’ Matthew Maggio Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

New York Islanders prospect Matthew Maggio of the Windsor Spitfires is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week for the second time this season, recording five goals, six assists and 11 points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-10.

Leading the Spitfires to a perfect 3-0 showing last week, Maggio got things started with a pair of goals and an assist as Windsor defeated the Soo Greyhounds 7-4 on Thursday. Maggio’s success continued on Saturday with another three-point showing (2-1–3) in a 6-3 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs. Maggio extended his point streak to 12 games on Sunday, recording a goal and four assists as the Spitfires closed out the weekend with a high-scoring 8-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack. His performance on Sunday saw him reach the 100 career assist plateau, giving him 185 points (85-100–185) in 192 regular season games.

A 20-year-old native of Tecumseh, Ont., Maggio leads the OHL with 40 goals, 39 assists and 79 points (40-39–79) in 46 games this season. Helping Windsor win a Western Conference title, Maggio was a fifth round (142nd overall) pick of the New York Islanders this past summer following 38 goals, 47 assists and 85 points in 66 regular season games in 2021-22. The 6-foot, 185lb. forward was originally Ottawa’s fifth round (86th overall) pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection from the Sun County Panthers U16 program.

Also given consideration for the award this week were Anaheim Ducks prospect Sasha Pastujov of the Sarnia Sting, who recorded two goals and seven assists in three games. Draft eligible defenceman Tristan Bertucci of the Flint Firebirds was also a standout, recording three goals and four helpers (3-4–7) over three games.

Wolves’ Nate Krawchuk Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Nate Krawchuk of the Sudbury Wolves is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, earning his first career shutout while posting a goals-against average of 0.97 and a save percentage of .961.

Earning first star honours in back-to-back games, Krawchuk stopped 49 of the 51 shots that came his way last week, helping the Wolves earn three of a possible four points. He turned aside all 21 shots he faced to earn his first career OHL shutout on Friday as the Wolves took a 4-0 win over the Mississauga Steelheads. Krawchuk was back between the pipes on Sunday to make his first set of consecutive starts this season, blocking 28 of the 30 shots that came his way as Sudbury fell to the Barrie Colts 2-1 in overtime.

A 17-year-old from Thunder Bay, Ont., Krawchuk owns a 6-5-1-0 record with a 3.16 goals-against average and .896 save percentage in his first 14 games with the Wolves this season. The 6-foot-1, 153Ib. netminder was Sudbury’s first round (3rd overall) pick in the 2022 OHL Under-18 Priority Selection from the Thunder Bay Kings U18 program.

A pair of other candidates were given consideration for the award as Arizona Coyotes prospect Anson Thornton of the Barrie Colts went 2-0-1-0, posting a 1.77 goals-against average and .939 save percentage. Reigning OHL Goaltender of the Week Jacob Oster of the Oshawa Generals was also a standout, recording a 2.04 goals-against average and .944 save percentage along with his third shutout of the season.

Bulldogs’ Sahil Panwar Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Sahil Panwar of the Hamilton Bulldogs is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording four goals, five assists and nine points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-3.

After getting his week started with an assist in a 5-1 Thursday night loss to the Flint Firebirds, Panwar returned to the scoresheet on Saturday, picking up a pair of goals and an assist in a 5-4 overtime win over the league-leading Ottawa 67’s. Panwar earned his second straight first star honour on Sunday, recording a career-high five points including two goals and three helpers (2-3–5) as the Bulldogs defeated his former club, the Peterborough Petes, by a score of 7-4.

A 21-year-old native of Mississauga, Ont., Panwar has produced 15 goals, 20 assists and 35 points in 45 games between Hamilton and Peterborough this season. The 6-foot, 185Ib. centre has 18 points (5-13–18) in 11 games since joining Hamilton on January 7th. The former second round (23rd overall) pick by the London Knights in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection has registered 38 goals, 52 assists and 90 points in 176 career regular season games split between the Knights, Flint Firebirds, Peterborough Petes and Hamilton Bulldogs. Panwar attended rookie camp with the Florida Panthers as a free agent invite in September.

Also given consideration for the award this week were Los Angeles Kings prospect Brandt Clarke of the Barrie Colts who scored his first career OHL hat trick as part of a six goal, two assist and eight point performance in three games last week. Boston Bruins prospect Matthew Poitras of the Guelph Storm was also a standout, recording two goals and four assists (2-4–6) including an overtime winner over two games.

Generals’ Jacob Oster Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Jacob Oster of the Oshawa Generals is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with back-to-back shutouts, stopping all 49 shots that came his way in victories over Kingston and North Bay.

Oster’s first career OHL shutout came Friday in Kingston as he stopped all 19 shots he faced while Calum Ritchie scored twice in a 2-0 road win over the Frontenacs. He continued his run of perfection on Sunday, making 30 saves for second star recognition as the Generals blanked the Central Division-leading North Bay Battalion 4-0 on home ice. Oster has now played nearly 140 consecutive minutes of shutout hockey dating back to January 19th.

Steelheads’ James Hardie Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

James Hardie of the Mississauga Steelheads is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording two goals, eight assists and 10 points in four games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-4.

Helping guide the Steelheads to a 3-1 showing last week, Hardie got things started with Mississauga’s lone goal in a 2-1 road loss to the Erie Otters on Monday. The Steelheads bounced back on Thursday with a 6-2 win over the Niagara IceDogs as Hardie put together the first of two consecutive four-assist outings. He registered another four assists on Friday, helping linemate Zander Veccia score his first OHL hat trick as the Steelheads defeated the Central Division-leading North Bay Battalion 5-4. Hardie contributed another goal on Sunday as the Steelheads closed out the weekend with a 5-4 win over the IceDogs on home ice. Currently riding a 10-game point streak, seven of Hardie’s eight assists last week were primary helpers.

A 21-year-old native of Innisfil, Ont., Hardie currently sits eighth in OHL points with 57 (28-29–57) through 41 games this season. His 181 shots on goal are the fourth-highest total in the League. Mississauga’s fist round (8th overall) pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection is the club’s all-time leading goal-scorer (118) and point producer (219) in his 230 career regular season contests. Hardie attended rookie camp with the Boston Bruins last September.

Also given consideration for the award this week were Steelheads teammate Zander Veccia who recorded five goals, four assists and nine points in four games. Edmonton Oilers prospect Matvey Petrov of the North Bay Battalion was also a standout, recording five goals and two assists over three outings.

Frontenacs’ Mason Vaccari Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Mason Vaccari of the Kingston Frontenacs is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, going 2-0 with a 1.64 goals-against average and .951 save percentage.

Vaccari backstopped the Frontenacs to back-to-back road wins, starting with a 45-save effort on Monday in Peterborough to earn third star recognition as the Frontenacs defeated the Petes 2-1. The rookie netminder was excellent again on Saturday, making 25 saves in a 6-2 victory over the Niagara IceDogs. Vaccari saw relief duty on Sunday afternoon in Guelph, stopping eight of nine shots as the Frontenacs fell 6-2 to the Storm.

An 18-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., Vaccari owns a 9-6-0-0 record with a 3.22 goals-against average and .906 save percentage in his first 16 games with the Frontenacs this season. The 5-foot-9, 178Ib. netminder spent last season with the OJHL’s Cobourg Cougars, going 9-7-0 with a 3.85 goals-against average and .878 save percentage in 16 games. Vaccari was Kingston’s fourth round (61st overall) pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection from the Vaughan Kings U16 program.

Kitchener Rangers netminder Marco Costantini was also given consideration for the award, recording two wins, a 2.00 goals-against average and .944 save percentage in victories over Ottawa and London last week.

Attack’s Colby Barlow Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

2023 NHL Draft prospect Colby Barlow of the Owen Sound Attack is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording four goals, three assists and seven points in three victories along with a plus/minus rating of plus-3.

Barlow helped the Attack gain ground in the Western Conference last week as they took wins over Niagara, Erie and Guelph. He found the back of the net as the Attack defeated the Niagara IceDogs 5-1 on Wednesday. Barlow’s scoring ways continued on Thursday as he netted a goal and added two primary assists in a 6-5 overtime win over the Erie Otters. He turned in a first star performance to close out the week on Saturday, scoring his 28th and 29th goals of the season while adding an assist in a 6-4 win over the Guelph Storm. Barlow’s second of the game was the third period game winner as he came away from Saturday’s action with goals in seven straight contests, pushing his current point streak to nine games.

A 17-year-old from Orillia, Ont., Barlow leads the Attack with 55 points (29-26–55) in 36 games this season, sitting tied for second in League goal-scoring with 29 on the campaign. Barlow’s eight game winners lead the League and his 172 shots on goal are currently the third-most in the OHL. His 10-game goal-scoring streak from Nov. 12 to Dec. 4 is the longest in the League this season, setting a new Attack franchise record. Selected in the first round (8th overall) by Owen Sound in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection from the Toronto Marlboros U16 program, the 6-foot-1, 187lb. winger scored 30 goals in 2021-22, a new Attack franchise record for a 16 or 17-year-old rookie. Barlow was listed as the OHL’s top-ranked skater on last week’s NHL Central Scouting Midseason Rankings, coming in at 10th in North America for the 2023 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the award this week, Boston Bruins prospect Brett Harrison put up seven points (4-3–7) in three victories for the Windsor Spitfires. North Bay Battalion overage forward Kyle McDonald also had success, recording five goals, one assist and six points for the Troops while also tacking on a shootout game winner.

Bulldogs’ Matteo Drobac Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Matteo Drobac of the Hamilton Bulldogs is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with two wins, a goals-against average of 2.00 and a save percentage of .949.

Drobac backstopped the Bulldogs to back-to-back road wins, starting with a 35-save effort on Friday night in Ottawa as the Bulldogs handed the first place 67’s a second home loss in under a month in a 4-3 decision. Drobac was excellent again on Saturday, making 40 saves to earn second star recognition in a 4-1 victory over the Kingston Frontenacs.

A 19-year-old native of Oakville, Ont., Drobac owns a record of 10-12-2-0 on the season with a 3.28 goals-against average and an .893 save percentage. The 6-foot-2, 201lb. netminder helped the Bulldogs win an OHL championship last year, joining Marco Costantini in winning the Dave Pinkney Trophy for fewest team goals-against by going 19-2-1-0 during the regular season with a 2.57 goals-against average and .905 save percentage in 23 games. He was selected in the sixth round (110th overall) by the Bulldogs in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection from the Halton Hurricanes U16 program.

A pair of other candidates were given consideration for the award as Arizona Coyotes prospect Anson Thornton of the Barrie Colts went 2-0, posting a 1.00 goals-against average and .958 save percentage. Winnipeg Jets prospect Dom DiVincentiis of the North Bay Battalion also went 2-0, recording a 1.92 goals-against average and .948 save percentage.

Greyhounds’ Bryce McConnell-Barker Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

New York Rangers prospect Bryce McConnell-Barker of the Soo Greyhounds is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording four goals, four assists and eight points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-4.

McConnell-Barker started his week off strong on Wednesday, recording two goals including the game-winner as the Greyhounds defeated the visiting Kitchener Rangers 5-4. He found the scoresheet again on Friday in Flint, recording a goal an an assist as the Greyhounds fell short to the Firebirds 6-5 in overtime. McConnell-Barker helped the Greyhounds bounce back at home on Sunday as the forward earned first star honours, finishing with a goal and three helpers in a 6-3 victory over the London Knights to close out the weekend.

An 18-year-old native of London, Ont., McConnell-Barker leads the Greyhounds with 47 points (21-26–47) in 37 games this season. He was a third round (97th overall) pick of the New York Rangers this past summer following 23 goals, 26 assists and 49 points in 68 games as a rookie with the Greyhounds last season. The 6-foot-2, 196lb. forward was originally Sault Ste. Marie’s first round (4th overall) pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection from the London Jr. Knights U16 program.

Also given consideration for the award this week were Anaheim Ducks prospect Sasha Pastujov of the Sarnia Sting, who recorded two goals and four assists in a pair of victories. Overage forward James Hardie of the Mississauga Steelheads was also a standout, recording two goals and four helpers (2-4-6) over three games, pulling into a tie for the most goals (114) and points (207) in Mississauga Steelheads franchise history.

Max Donoso of the Ottawa 67’s is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, posting a 2-0 record with a 1.00 goals-against average and .951 save percentage.

Defending the crease in back-to-back victories, Donoso turned aside 26 of the 27 shots that came his way on Friday as Ottawa defeated the Niagara IceDogs 4-1. The 6-foot-1, 182lb. netminder returned to the crease on Sunday, stopping 13 of the 14 shots he faced as the 67’s closed out the weekend with a 5-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack.

A 19-year-old from Windsor, Ont., Donoso owns a 19-5-0-1 record with a 2.62 goals-against average and .901 save percentage in 27 games this year. Donoso ranks third among OHL goaltenders in goals-against average this season as the 67’s remain atop the OHL standings. The former fifth round (98th overall) pick by the 67’s in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection currently holds a 30-14-1-6 record in 54 regular season OHL appearances.

A pair of other candidates were given consideration for the award as Guelph Storm netminder Brayden Gillespie went 2-0-0-1 with a 2.65 goals-against average and .910 save percentage, helping the Storm collect five of a possible six points. Sarnia Sting goaltender Nicholas Surzycia went 2-0 on the weekend, recording a 1.50 goals-against average and .942 save percentage.

Petes’ Connor Lockhart Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Vancouver Canucks prospect Connor Lockhart of the Peterborough Petes is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, posting four goals, five assists and nine points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-7.

Lockhart helped the Petes take three wins last week, extending their current winning streak to five games. He recorded a goal and an assist as the Petes defeated the Mississauga Steelheads 5-1 on Thursday. Lockhart’s success continued on Friday as he contributed four helpers in a 6-2 road win over the Kitchener Rangers. The Petes forward finished the weekend with a natural hat-trick in the second period on Sunday as Peterborough opened the new year with a 6-1 win over the rival Oshawa Generals.

A 19-year-old from Kanata, Ont., Lockhart has recorded 13 goals, 29 assists and 42 points in 32 games this season. He’s produced 117 points (45-72–117) over 153 career OHL regular season games between Peterborough and Erie since being selected by the Otters with the third overall pick of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection. Lockhart was selected in the sixth round (178th overall) by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2021 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the award this week, Lockhart’s Petes linemates Tucker Robertson (4-5–9) and J.R. Avon (4-4–8) were also productive while Saginaw Spirit blueliner Pavel Mintyukov had eight points (1-7–8) in three victories including an overtime game winner.

Michael Simpson of the Peterborough Petes is the OHL Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season, posting a 2-0 record with a 1.00 goals-against average and .973 save percentage.

Helping Peterborough close out the 2022 calendar year with a pair of victories, Simpson turned aside 40 of the 41 shots he faced in a first star performance as the Petes defeated the Mississauga Steelheads 5-1 on Thursday. The six-foot-one, 198 lb. goaltender was back between the pipes on Sunday, backstopping the Petes to a 6-1 road victory over the Oshawa Generals where he made 33 saves for the win.

A 19-year-old from London, Ont., Simpson leads the OHL with a 2.57 goals-against average, .919 save percentage and two shutouts through 27 games, posting a record of 14-9-1-2. The second-year netminder played to a 20-18-3-1 mark in 2021-22, registering a 3.56 goals-against average and .891 save percentage. Simpson was a 10th round (193rd overall) pick of the Petes in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection from the London Jr. Knights U16 program.

Also in the running for the award this week, London Knights netminder Brett Brochu turned aside 61 shots, going 2-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and .953 save percentage. Arizona Coyotes prospect Anson Thornton of the Barrie Colts also went 2-0 with a 1.93 goals-against average, .949 save percentage and a shoutout victory.

Colts’ Evan Vierling Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Evan Vierling of the Barrie Colts is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, posting five goals, five assists and 10 points as the Colts won three of four contests last week.

Vierling started his week off strong on Tuesday, recording a goal and five assists as the Colts defeated the visiting Sudbury Wolves 7-5. He found the scoresheet again on Friday in Guelph, helping the Colts defeat the Storm 3-2 in overtime. Vierling’s second multi-goal effort of the season came Saturday at home to North Bay as his second of the game was the deciding marker coming 2:34 into the third period. Vierling’s was the game’s first star, finishing with two goals and an assist. He helped the Colts earn a point on Sunday in North Bay, extending his goal-scoring streak to six games with a tally in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Battalion.

A 20-year-old from Aurora, Ont., Vierling leads the Colts with 38 points including 15 goals and 23 assists in 24 games. The former fifth round NHL Draft pick by the New York Rangers in 2020 has recorded 156 points (55-101–156) in 182 career OHL regular season games between Flint and Barrie after being chosen second overall by the Firebirds in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. Vierling attended training camp with the Columbus Blue Jackets this past September.

Also considered for the award this week, Kitchener Rangers captain Francesco Pinelli scored twice and added six assists in a pair of victories. Windsor Spitfires captain Matthew Maggio was also productive, with a total of six goals on the week including a five-goal effort on Thursday night against the Erie Otters.

Rangers’ Marco Costantini Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Marco Costantini of the Kitchener Rangers is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, going 2-0 with a shutout, a 0.50 goals-against average and a .981 save percentage as the Rangers enter the holiday break on a six-game winning streak.

Costantini was in the crease for Kitchener’s 9-0 Friday night win over the visiting Soo Greyhounds as he turned aside 22 shots for his second shutout of the season and eighth of his OHL career. He turned aside 30 shots on Sunday afternoon in Mississauga, sending the Rangers into the break with a first star performance in a 5-1 win over the Steelheads.

A 20-year-old from Hamilton, Ont., Costantini owns an overall record of 11-8-0-0 with a 3.16 goals-against average and .902 save percentage in 20 games between Kitchener and Hamilton this season. Last year’s runner-up in OHL Goaltender of the Year voting, Costantini hoisted the J. Ross Robertson Cup as an OHL champion with the Hamilton Bulldogs and owns career regular season totals that include a record of 52-32-8-2 with a 3.15 goals-against average, .898 save percentage and eight shutouts in 99 games. He was 16-2-1-0 in the 2022 OHL Playoffs with a 2.29 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and three shutouts. Originally Hamilton’s fifth round (95th overall) pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection, Costantini attended rookie camp with the Toronto Maple Leafs this past September.

Also considered for the award this week, Sarnia Sting netminder Nicholas Surzycia posted a 2.00 goals-against average and .927 save percentage in wins over Erie and Flint.

Generals’ Ryan Gagnier Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Ryan Gagnier of the Oshawa Generals is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording two goals, six assists and eight points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-6.

Helping the Generals extend their winning streak to five with three more victories this week, Gagnier got things started with a goal and three assists on Tuesday as Oshawa defeated the London Knights 5-3 at Budweiser Gardens on Tuesday. He picked up an assist on Friday as the Generals defeated the visiting Soo Greyhounds 7-2. Gagnier contributed another goal, two helpers and the shootout winner in Oshawa’s annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Sunday, fueling a 4-3 victory over the Barrie Colts.

A 20-year-old native of Tecumseh, Ont., Gagnier has produced nine goals, 19 assists and 28 points in 29 games this season, winning 57 percent of his 516 faceoff attempts in the process. The former third round (50th overall) pick by the Generals in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection has registered 31 goals, 41 assists and 72 points in 150 career regular season games as he continues his fourth season in Oshawa.

Also given consideration for the award this week were New York Islanders prospect Matthew Maggio of the Windsor Spitfires who recorded four goals and four assists (4-4-8) over three games, along with a plus/minus rating of plus-5. Minnesota Wild prospect Hunter Haight of the Saginaw Spirit was also a standout, registering three goal and five helpers (3-5-8) in four games.

IceDogs’ Owen Flores Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Owen Flores of the Niagara IceDogs is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with one win and a shootout loss, a goals-against average of 1.44 and save percentage of .963.

Flores stopped 77 of the 81 shots that came his way last week, helping the IceDogs earn three of a possible four points. He turned aside 35 shots on top of two of the three shootout attempts he faced on Thursday as the IceDogs fell to the Kingston Frontenacs 3-2. Flores was back between the pipes on Saturday, backstopping the IceDogs to a 2-1 win over the Mississauga Steelheads where he made 43 saves to earn first star honours.

An 18-year-old from Antioch, Ill., Flores owns a 5-7-2-1 record with a 4.64 goals-against average and .879 save percentage in 18 games with the IceDogs this season. The 6-foot-2, 176Ib. netminder was acquired from the London Knights in September after going 6-8-2-2 with a 3.67 goals-against average and .875 save percentage with the Knights in his rookie season. He was also named to the GOJHL’s Rookie All-Star Team in 2021-22 after playing to a 12-2-0 record with a 2.20 goals-against average and .928 save percentage in 16 games with the London Nationals. Flores was London’s sixth round (114th overall) pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection.

A pair of other candidates were given consideration for the award as Kitchener Rangers netminder Marcus Vandenberg went 2-0, recording a 2.00 goals-against average and .953 save percentage in wins over Guelph and Peterborough. Colorado Avalanche prospect Ivan Zhigalov of the Kingston Frontenacs also went 2-0, posting a 1.44 goals-against average and .955 save percentage in road victories over Niagara and Hamilton.
