Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League today announced Top Performers of the Week for the week of regular season games ending Sunday, December 4, 2022.



Wolves’ Quentin Musty Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

2023 NHL Draft prospect Quentin Musty of the Sudbury Wolves is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording two goals, seven assists and nine points in two games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-4.

Musty returned to the Wolves lineup with a goal and an assist in Friday’s 3-2 loss to the visiting Owen Sound Attack. He took centre stage on Sunday afternoon, extending his point streak to 12 games with a franchise record-tying seven points (1-6–7) in a lopsided 13-2 win over the visiting Niagara IceDogs. Musty’s seven points are the most in a single game by a Wolves player since Mike Fisher and Norm Milley both posted seven on Dec. 18, 1998 against Barrie. Hector Marini (Oct. 8, 1976 vs. Ottawa) and Ron Duguay (Mar. 13, 1977 at Toronto) also share the record with Musty, who helped the Wolves score the most goals by an OHL club since the Guelph Storm netted 13 on Mar. 14, 2014.

A 17-year-old from Hamburg, NY., Musty leads the Wolves with 34 points (9-25–34) in 22 games this season. Selected first overall by Sudbury in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection from the North Jersey Avalanche U16 program, the 6-foot-2, 197Ib. Musty recorded 12 goals, 19 assists and 31 points in his rookie campaign last season. He was recently upgraded to an ‘A’ rating by NHL Central Scouting for the 2023 NHL Draft.

Also considered for the award this week, Anaheim Ducks prospect Sasha Pastujov put up nine points (4-5–9) in three games for the Sarnia Sting. Windsor Spitfires forward Oliver Peer also had success, recording two goals, five assists and seven points as the Spits went 3-0 last week.

Battalion’s Dom DiVincentiis Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Winnipeg Jets prospect Dom DiVincentiis of the North Bay Battalion is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with two wins, a goals-against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .967.

Defending the crease in back-to-back road wins, DiVincentiis turned aside 20 of the 22 shots he faced as the Battalion defeated the Kingston Frontenacs 4-2 on Friday. DiVincentiis was back between the pipes on Saturday, backstopping the Battalion to a 3-0 win over the Peterborough Petes where he made 38 saves to earn his first career OHL shutout and first star honours.

An 18-year-old native of Bolton, Ont., DiVincentiis owns a record of 13-4-0-0 on the season with a league-best 2.49 goals-against average and .906 save percentage. He was the recipient of the OHL’s F.W. ‘Dinty’ Moore Trophy in 2021-22, posting a league-low 2.59 goals-against average among rookies to go with a 14-8-0-1 record and .907 save percentage. DiVincentiis was selected in the seventh round (207th overall) by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2022 NHL Draft.  He’s a former sixth round (116th overall) pick by the Battalion in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection.

A pair of other candidates were given consideration for the award as London Knights netminder Brett Brochu went 2-0, recording a 1.50 goals-against average and .933 save percentage in wins over Guelph and Niagara. Windsor Spitfires goaltender Mathias Onuska also went 2-0, posting a 2.00 goals-against average and .917 save percentage.

Bulldogs’ Jorian Donovan Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Ottawa Senators prospect Jorian Donovan of the Hamilton Bulldogs is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording three goals, three assists and six points in two games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-9.

Helping guide the Bulldogs to a perfect 2-0 showing last week, Donovan recorded a pair of assists on Friday as Hamilton overcame the North Bay Battalion 4-1 at home. He registered a career-high four points on Sunday, scoring a hat trick while adding an assist as the Bulldogs defeated the visiting Soo Greyhounds in a high-scoring 10-6 victory. Donovan’s hat trick was just the third by a defenceman in Bulldogs history following prior efforts by Nathan Staios (Feb. 26, 2022 vs. Ottawa) and Ben Gleason (Nov. 24, 2017 at Oshawa).

An 18-year-old native of Richmond, Ont., Donovan leads Hamilton blueliners with 17 points (7-10–17) in 18 games this season, and is riding a current eight-game point streak that dates back to Nov. 10th. He was a fifth round (136rd overall) pick of the Ottawa Senators this past summer following three goals, 19 assists and 22 points in 64 games for the OHL champion Bulldogs. The son of former Ottawa 67’s graduate and long-time NHL forward Shean Donovan, Jorian was originally selected by Hamilton in the first round (6th overall) of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection.

Also considered for the award this week, Bulldogs’ captain Logan Morrison put up seven points (3-4–7) in two wins. Saginaw rookie Michael Misa continued his success recording two goals, five assists and seven points as the Spirit tacked three more wins onto their run of success.

Knights’ Brett Brochu Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Brett Brochu of the London Knights is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with two victories including a shutout, a 1.00 goals-against average and a .969 save percentage.

Defending the crease in back-to-back wins, Brochu turned aside all 28 shots that came his way to earn first star honours as the Knights opened up the weekend with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Kitchener Rangers on Friday. Brochu returned to the crease on Sunday night in Oshawa, stopping 34 of the 36 shots he faced as the Knights defeated the Generals 4-2. Brochu’s two victories gave him 71 on his OHL career, pushing him ahead of Steve Mason for the fifth-most in franchise history.

A 20-year-old from Belle River, Ont., Brochu owns a 10-6-1-0 record with a 3.07 goals-against average and .892 save percentage in 17 games this season, winning six of his last seven starts. The reigning Jim Rutherford OHL Goaltender of the Year Award recipient owns a 71-23-3-0 record, 2.67 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and five shutouts in 102 regular season contests. Brochu was London’s sixth round (114th overall) pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. He attended training camp with the Vancouver Canucks this past September.

Also in the running for the award this week, New York Islanders prospect Tristan Lennox of the Saginaw Spirit went 2-0 with a 2.49 goals-against average and .926 save percentage. Erie’s Kyle Downey was also outstanding in the crease, going 1-1 with a 1.85 goals-against average and .938 save percentage in three appearances.

Storm’s Matthew Poitras Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Boston Bruins prospect Matthew Poitras of the Guelph Storm is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week after recording two goals, six assists and eight points in a pair of Storm victories.

Poitras helped the Storm come from behind to defeat the Niagara IceDogs 6-4 on Thursday night, recording four primary assists, with three of them coming in the third period. After earning third star recognition on Friday, Poitras was named the game’s first star on Saturday, scoring twice while adding two assists as Guelph defeated the visiting Kitchener Rangers 5-3. Poitras opened the scoring in Saturday’s win and scored the eventual game winning goal early in the second period.

An 18-year-old from Brooklin, Ont., Poitras leads the Storm with 23 points (6-17–23) in 16 games this season while also owning a club-high plus-4 rating. He’s won 54.3 percent of his faceoffs on the campaign and is in the midst of a six-game point streak that dates back to Oct. 30th. The 5-foot-11, 170Ib. centreman was selected by the Boston Bruins in the second round (54th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft. Poitras was Guelph’s first round (12th overall) pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection from the Whitby Wildcats U16 program.

Also considered for the award this week, Seattle Kraken prospect Ty Nelson put up six points (2-4–6) in three games on the North Bay Battalion blue line. Poitras’ new Guelph Storm teammate Max Namestnikov got off to a great start in his new surroundings, recording six points (3-3–6) last week.

Petes’ Michael Simpson Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Michael Simpson of the Peterborough Petes is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, posting a 2-0 record with a 1.50 goals-against average, .950 save percentage and one shutout.

October’s OHL Goaltender of the Month, Simpson went a perfect 26-for-26 on Thursday night against the Oshawa Generals as the Petes defeated their long-time rival by a score of 4-0. Simpson returned to the crease on Saturday in Mississauga, making 31 saves for second star honours as Peterborough defeated the host Steelheads 7-3.

A 19-year-old from London, Ont., Simpson leads the OHL with a 2.28 goals-against average, .925 save percentage and two shutouts through 16 games, posting a record of 9-4-1-2. The second-year netminder played to a 20-18-3-1 mark in 2021-22, registering a 3.56 goals-against average and .891 save percentage. Simpson was a 10th round (193rd overall) pick of the Petes in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection from the London Jr. Knights U16 program.

Also in the running for the award this week, Barrie Colts netminder Ben West turned aside 82 shots, going 1-1 with a 2.53 goals-against average and .943 save percentage. Ottawa’s Max Donoso helped the 67’s continue their current winning streak, going 2-0 with a 3.00 goals-against average and .900 save percentage.

Knights’ Brody Crane Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Brody Crane of the London Knights is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording four goals, three assists and seven points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-3.

Helping the Knights to a perfect 3-0 showing, Crane opened up the weekend with a pair of goals on Friday as London defeated visiting Barrie in a thrilling 5-4 overtime win. He registered a career-high four points on Saturday, scoring twice while adding two assists as the Knights defeated the Windsor Spitfires 6-1. The 5-foot-11, 185lb. forward contributed another assist on Sunday as the Knights closed out the weekend with a 4-2 win over the Soo Greyhounds.

An 18-year-old native of Union, Ont., Crane has produced six goals, eight assists and 14 points in 16 games this season. The former fourth round (62nd overall) pick by the Knights in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection has registered 14 goals, 15 assists and 29 points in 72 career regular season games. The son of former Knights, Ottawa 67’s and Windsor Spitfires forward Derrick Crane (1990-93), Brody attended rookie camp with the New Jersey Devils this past fall.

Also given consideration for the award this week were recent award recipient Deni Goure of the Owen Sound Attack, who recorded three goals, five assists and eight points (3-5-8) in four games. Logan Morrison of the Hamilton Bulldogs was also a standout, recording one goal and six helpers (1-6-7) over three outings.

Wolves’ Joe Ranger Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Joe Ranger of the Sudbury Wolves is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with two wins, a goals-against average of 2.00 and a save percentage of .931.

Defending the crease in back-to-back victories, Ranger turned aside 32 of the 35 shots that came his way as Sudbury opened up the weekend with a 6-3 victory over the Guelph Storm on Friday. The 6-foot, 191lb. netminder returned to the crease on Saturday, stopping 22 of the 23 shots he faced as the Wolves dominated the Kitchener Rangers in a 6-1 win at home.

A 20-year-old from Carp, Ont., Ranger owns a 6-6-2-0 record with a 3.37 goals-against average and .902 save percentage in 14 games this season. The former fourth round (63rd overall) pick by the Mississauga Steelheads in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection currently holds a 28-25-7-0 record in 69 regular season OHL appearances between Sudbury and Mississauga.

A pair of other candidates were given consideration for the award as North Bay Battalion netminder Dom DiVincentiis went 2-0 on the weekend, recording a 2.00 goals-against average and .930 save percentage in wins over Barrie and Guelph. Kitchener Rangers goaltender Marco Costantini went 2-1-0-0, posting a 2.36 goals-against average and .920 save percentage.

Battalion’s Matvey Petrov Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Edmonton Oilers prospect Matvey Petrov of the North Bay Battalion is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording four goals, two assists and six points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-6.

Petrov helped the Battalion take three wins last week, extending their current winning streak to five games. He recorded a goal and two assists as the Battalion defeated the Niagara IceDogs in a high-scoring 9-3 victory on Thursday. Petrov’s scoring ways continued on Friday as he netted a pair of markers in a 5-1 road win over the Hamilton Bulldogs. He found the back of the net, extending his current point streak to 11 games on Saturday as the Battalion took a 5-3 win in Erie.

A 19-year-old forward, Petrov was selected in the sixth round (180th overall) by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2021 NHL Draft who signed him to an entry-level NHL contract on April 11, 2022. He leads the Troops with 20 points (8-12–20) in 14 games this season. The former first overall pick by the Battalion in the 2020 CHL Import Draft recorded 40 goals, 50 assists and 90 points last season before leading North Bay to the Eastern Conference Championship Series.

Also given consideration for the award this week were a pair of Sarnia Sting teammates in Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ty Voit who recorded seven assists (0-7-7), and Nolan Burke who registered six goals (6-0-6) over three games played.

Spirit’s Tristan Lennox Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

New York Islanders prospect Tristan Lennox of the Saginaw Spirit is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with a shutout victory, a goals-against average of 0.51 and a save percentage of .979.

Defending the crease in back-to-back games, Lennox turned aside 20 of the 21 shots he faced on Friday, surrendering a late goal to Kitchener’s Roman Schmidt as the Spirit fell 1-0 on the road. Lennox was back between the pipes on Sunday night, backstopping Saginaw to a 5-0 road win over the Oshawa Generals where he made 26 saves to earn his second career OHL shutout.

A 20-year-old native of Cambridge, Ont., Lennox was selected in the third round (93rd overall) by the New York Islanders in the 2021 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 200 lb. netminder is 7-3 on the season with a 3.21 goals-against average and .879 save percentage. He owns a career mark of 41-33-3-2 with a 3.31 goals-against average and .885 save percentage over 87 career regular season games. Lennox was Saginaw’s second round (26th overall) pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection from the Mississauga Reps U16 program.

A pair of other candidates were given consideration for the award as Ottawa 67’s netminder Max Donoso went 2-0 on the weekend, recording a 1.50 goals-against average and .927 save percentage in wins over Barrie and Peterborough. Soo Greyhounds goaltender Samuel Ivanov went 1-0-0-1, posting a 1.44 goals-against average and .945 save percentage to help his team collect three of a possible four points.

Attack’s Deni Goure Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Deni Goure of the Owen Sound Attack is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording four goals, four assists and eight points in three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-6.

Helping guide the Attack to a perfect 3-0 showing last week, Goure got things started with a goal and two assists on Thursday as Owen Sound overcame a 5-1 deficit on the road in Barrie to win 6-5 in a shootout. He registered a career-high four points on Saturday, scoring twice while adding two assists as the Attack defeated the visiting Guelph Storm 5-2. Goure contributed another goal on Sunday as the Attack closed out the weekend with a 4-1 win over the Kingston Frontenacs.

A 19-year-old native of Grand Pointe, Ont., Goure has produced nine goals, eight assists and 17 points in 13 games this season. The former first round (10th overall) pick by the Bears in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection has registered 44 goals, 61 assists and 105 points in 143 career regular season games as he continues his third season in Owen Sound. Goure attended rookie camp with the Carolina Hurricanes in September.

Also given consideration for the award this week were Erie Otters forward Colby Saganiuk who recorded three goals and four assists (3-4-7) over three games, along with a plus/minus rating of plus-6. Barrie Colts overage forward Evan Vierling registered three goal and four helpers (3-4-7) over two games.

Attack’s Carter George Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Rookie netminder Carter George of the Owen Sound Attack is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with two victories, a 0.63 goals-against average and a .976 save percentage.

Trailing 5-1 in Barrie on Thursday, George entered the game for his OHL debut midway through the second period and proceeded to stop all 14 shots he faced before turning aside all eight in the shootout as the Bears came back to win by a score of 6-5. George returned to the crease on Sunday, earning first star honours with 27 saves in a 4-1 win over the Kingston Frontenacs at the Bayshore.

A 16-year-old from Thunder Bay, Ont., George was selected in the third round (53rd overall) by the Attack in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection from the Thunder Bay Kings U16 program. He started the season with the St. Marys Lincolns of the GOJHL, going 2-1-1 with a 2.88 goals-against average and .902 save percentage in five games.

A pair of other candidates were given consideration for the award this week including San Jose Sharks prospect and Sarnia Sting netminder Ben Gaudreau who went 2-0-0-0 last week, posting a 1.50 goals-against average and .940 save percentage as Sarnia defeated Sudbury and Hamilton. Peterborough Petes goaltender Michael Simpson also went 2-0-0-0, posting a 2.50 goals-against average and .922 save percentage with wins over Sault Ste. Marie and Ottawa.

Steelheads’ Owen Beck Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Montreal Canadiens prospect Owen Beck of the Mississauga Steelheads is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording three goals, six assists and nine points in two games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-2.

Beck tied a Steelheads record for most points in a single game on Friday, recording one goal and five assists in an 8-2 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs while also going 13-for-17 in the faceoff circle. His five assists equaled an all-time franchise record, marking the first time a Steelheads player has hit that mark since Nathan Bastian on Oct. 12, 2016 against Guelph. Beck continued his strong play on Saturday in Barrie, registering two goals and an assist as the Steelheads fell to the Colts in a narrow 6-5 defeat.

A 19-year-old native of Port Hope, Ont., Beck has produced six goals, six assists and 12 points in his seven games this season. He was a second round (33rd overall) pick of the Montreal Canadiens this past summer following 21 goals, 30 assists and 51 points in 68 games last season. Last year’s OHL and CHL Scholastic Player of the Year was originally Mississauga’s second round (29th overall) pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection from the Quinte Red Devils U16 program.

Also given consideration for the award this week were fellow Montreal Canadiens prospect Filip Mesar of the Kitchener Rangers, who recorded three goals and three assists including an overtime winner in his first two OHL contests. Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ty Voit of the Sarnia Sting was also a standout, recording one goal and seven helpers (1-7-8) over three games to rise to the top of the OHL scoring race.

67’s’ Collin MacKenzie Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Collin MacKenzie of the Ottawa 67’s is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with two victories, a 0.60 goals-against average and a .976 save percentage, helping Ottawa continue its run of undefeated hockey to begin the 2022-23 season.

After the 67’s took a Thursday night win in North Bay, MacKenzie took the crease on Friday in Sault Ste. Marie, stopping 21 of the 22 shots that came his way before turning aside a new OHL record 15 consecutive Greyhounds shootout attempts. Gavin Ewles would end the second-longest shootout in OHL history in the 15th round as Ottawa improved to 8-0 with a 2-1 victory. The 67’s fell behind the Sudbury Wolves 3-0 on Sunday afternoon, prompting Ottawa coach Dave Cameron to put MacKenzie into the game 4:58 into the second period. He proceeded to stop all 14 shots he faced as the 67’s scored five unanswered goals to win 5-3 and extend their winning streak to nine games.

A 17-year-old from Elora, Ont., MacKenzie owns a 3-0-0-0 record with a 1.50 goals-against average and .937 save percentage in three games this season. The former eighth round (160th overall) pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection is a perfect 7-0-0-0 in his OHL career.

A pair of other candidates were given consideration for the award this week, including Owen Sound Attack netminder Nick Chenard who went 2-0-0-0 last week, posting a 1.50 goals-against average and .954 save percentage. Soo Greyhounds goaltender Charlie Schenkel was MacKenzie’s counterpart in Friday’s shootout marathon, stopping 33 shots through 65 minutes before turning away 14 of the 15 Ottawa shooters he faced in the shootout.

Spitfires’ Matthew Maggio Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

New York Islanders prospect Matthew Maggio of the Windsor Spitfires is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording three goals, four assists and seven points over three games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-5.

Suiting up at the WFCU Centre for the first time since returning from the New York Islanders, Maggio posted a goal and two assists, setting up Alex Christopoulos’ overtime winner on Thanksgiving Monday as the Spits defeated the Soo Greyhounds 3-2. He proceeded to add two assists in Windsor’s 6-3 road win over the Sarnia Sting on Friday and closed out the weekend with a pair of goals in a 5-4 overtime loss in Owen Sound on Saturday.

A 19-year-old native of Tecumseh, Ont., Maggio has points in all four of his games this season, posting four goals and four assists for eight points. He was a fifth round (142nd overall) pick of the New York Islanders this past summer following 38 goals, 47 assists and 85 points in 66 games last season. Originally selected by the Ottawa 67’s in the fifth round of the 2018 OHL Priority Selection, Maggio is embarking on his fourth OHL season and is one goal shy of 50 on his OHL career.

Also given consideration for the award this week were Owen Sound Attack forward and top 2023 NHL Draft prospect Colby Barlow, who recorded four goals and two assists (4-2-6) including a hat trick and overtime winner in three games last week. Chicago Blackhawks blue line prospect Ethan Del Mastro of the Mississauga Steelheads was also a standout, recording five points (1-4–5) as the Trout went 3-0.

Frontenacs’ Ivan Zhigalov Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Colorado Avalanche prospect Ivan Zhigalov of the Kingston Frontenacs is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with two victories, a 1.50 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage.

Leading Kingston to an undefeated weekend at home, Zhigalov stopped 29 of the 31 shots that came his way as the Fronts won 4-2 against the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday. The 6-foot-3, 173Ib. goaltender continued to defend the crease against the Guelph Storm on Saturday, blocking 30 of the 31 shots he faced in a 6-1 win.

A 19-year-old from Minsk, Belarus, Zhigalov owns a 3-1-0-1 record with a 1.78 goals-against average and .945 save percentage in five games this season. The seventh round (225th overall) pick of the Colorado Avalanche this past summer spent the 2021-22 season with the QMJHL’s Sherbrooke Phoenix, playing to a 26-9-3 record with a 2.84 goals-against-average and .892 save percentage. He participated in the 2022 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Kitchener, Ont., and was Kingston’s first round (47th overall) pick in the 2022 CHL Import Draft.

A pair of other candidates were given consideration for the award as Sudbury Wolves netminder Joe Ranger went 1-0-0-1 on the weekend, posting a  2.37 goals-against average and .933 save percentage. Kitchener Rangers goaltender Marco Costantini went 1-1-0-0 with his new club, posting a 2.55 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage.

Spirit’s Pavel Mintyukov Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Anaheim Ducks prospect Pavel Mintyukov of the Saginaw Spirit is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording four goals along with three assists for seven points over three games.

Mintyukov led the Spirit, recording one goal and one assist in a 7-4 win against the Sarnia Sting on Friday, continuing his efforts in a two-point night on Saturday against the Windsor Spitfires. The six-foot-three, 195 lb. blueliner closed out the weekend with two goals and an assist on Sunday to help Saginaw defeat the Sudbury Wolves 5-2 at home as he now leads all OHL players with 12 points (5-7-12) on the season.

An 18-year-old rearguard, Mintyukov was selected in the first round (10th overall) by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2022 NHL Draft. The former first round (52nd overall) pick by the Spirit in the 2020 CHL Import Draft recorded 17 goals, 45 assists and 62 points last season, becoming the first defenceman to ever lead the Spirit in regular season scoring.

Also given consideration for the award this week were Spirit teammate and Vegas Golden Knights prospect Matyas Sapovaliv, who recorded seven points, scoring four goals and three assists. Sudbury Wolves sophomore forward Quentin Musty was also a standout, recording seven points (3-4–7) in a three-game weekend for the Wolves.

Steelheads’ Alessio Beglieri Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

Alessio Beglieri of the Mississauga Steelheads is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with two victories, a 0.96 goals-against average, .961 save percentage and one shutout.

Beglieri stopped 35 of the 37 shots that came his way on top of two shootout attempts as the Steelheads won 3-2 over the Erie Otters despite being outshot 37-26 on Friday. The 5-foot-11, 170Ib. goaltender returned to the crease on Saturday, stopping 14 shots for his first career OHL shutout in a 4-0 triumph over the Owen Sound Attack.

An 18-year-old from Nidau, Switzerland, Beglieri was selected by the Steelheads in the first round (33rd overall) of the 2022 CHL Import Draft and remains undefeated in three appearances for Mississauga this season.

A pair of other candidates were given consideration for the award as North Bay Battalion netminder and Winnipeg Jets prospect Dom DiVincentiis posted 47 saves in a pair of outings, recording a 1.44 goals-against average and .940 save percentage. Peterborough Petes goaltender Michael Simpson blocked 26 shots for the shutout on Saturday, posting a 1.52 goals-against average and .949 save percentage in two appearances.

Petes’ Tucker Robertson Named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week

Seattle Kraken prospect Tucker Robertson of the Peterborough Petes is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording one goal, four assists and five points in a pair of victories.

Robertson got the Petes’ season off to a hot start recording his 50th OHL goal, 100th career point and the shootout game winner in a first star performance as the Petes defeated the Erie Otters 5-4 in their home opener. He followed that up with a three-assist effort on Saturday as the Petes defeated the defending champion Hamilton Bulldogs 5-3 at the Memorial Centre. Robertson excelled in the face-off circle, going a combined 39-for-59 (66%) on the weekend.

A 19-year-old native of Toronto, Robertson was a fourth round (123rd overall) pick of the Seattle Kraken following 41 goals, 40 assists and 81 points in 68 games last season. The former fourth round (72nd overall) pick by the Petes in 2019 has registered 50 goals, 54 assists and 104 points in 125 career regular season games in maroon and white.

Also given consideration for the award this week were Petes teammate and Vancouver Canucks prospect Connor Lockhart, who leads all OHL players with six points (1-5–6) on the young season. Fellow Seattle prospect Ty Nelson of the North Bay Battalion was also a standout, recording five points (1-4–5) in split decisions for the Troops.



Sting’s Ben Gaudreau Named OHL Goaltender of the Week

San Jose Sharks prospect Ben Gaudreau of the Sarnia Sting is the OHL Goaltender of the Week with two victories, a 1.99 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.

Gaudreau was victorious on Friday in Kitchener, stopping 17 of the 20 shots he faced as the Sting defeated the Rangers 6-3. The 6-foot-2, 172Ib. goaltender returned to the crease on Saturday, stopping 22 shots in a 2-1 overtime win over the Windsor Spitfires, picking up second star recognition.

A 19-year-old native of Corbeil, Ont., Gaudreau is embarking on his third season in Sarnia after a strong sophomore season where he went 19-18-4-1 with a 3.71 goals-against average and .891 save percentage over 44 games. Selected in the third round (81st overall) by the San Jose Sharks in the 2021 NHL Draft, Gaudreau was originally Sarnia’s 1st round (7th overall) pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection from the North Bay Trappers 16U program. Over parts of three seasons, he’s 31-31-5-2 with a 3.88 goals-against average and .891 save percentage in 74 regular season appearances.

A pair of other candidates were given consideration for the award as Kingston Frontenacs netminder Ivan Zhigalov posted 61 saves in a pair of outings, recording a 2.03 goals-against average and .939 save percentage. Oshawa Generals goaltender Patrick Leaver went 2-0-0-1 on the weekend, posting a 2.92 goals-against average and .910 save percentage.
